My childhood was dominated by Nintendo. There was a brief window of about 3 yrs were PS2 took over and then it was onto the XBox and I haven’t left since. I loved some Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc.

Did anyone every play Ogre Battle 64? That was a fun game I tried but returned to Blockbuster and couldn’t rent again. I bought it a few years ago at a GameStop and played it for a while. Didn’t finish it though…
Don’t remember Ogre Battle. My favorite 64 games (aside from the big boys like Mario/Zelda) was Quest 64. I didn’t play SmashBros until GameCube and it was glorious.
I never really got into the GameCube and I didn’t like the controller. I loved the N64 controller and I would say Smash Brothers on 64 was better. I think they added too many guys and too many moves and stuff I couldn’t adjust to with limited hands on time…
Ah, I’ve played Smash on 64, gamecube(Melee), and Wii (Brawl). I think Melee is probably the best. Just my opinion anyway. I liked hte gamecube controller. I still use it on the Wii for Brawl.
I always liked Brawl the most but that is most likely because my roommates and I used to play it for hours a day our freshman year. I was the only one to prefer the Wii controlled over the Gamecube controller. Dodging (using the Z button) is much more difficult with the Wii controller but my attacking and moving was so much quicker which fit my play style using toon link.

Ya, exact same for me, except with Melee. A 7 month deployment to Japan flew by because of Melee. It was always Link (me) vs. Samus, Ganondorf (sp?), and like Pikachu or some other faggety character…

My boy is 6. We have a Wii. We may upgrade soon. So, what is the verdict on PS4 vs. One now that some time has passed? Are there any games kids can play on either system?

Im sticking to my guns with the PS4. I like the system, and I think its better for pure gaming overall. As of right now, there aren’t many games anybody can play on either system. Narrowing it down to those appropriate for a 6 year old drastically reduces the number as well. Games are coming though, its just still early in the console cycle.

For a 6 year old I think there are two factors. The first is that the kinect may be slightly better than playstation eye, although marginally. IF your kid is into that sort of thing thats a factor. I personally could care less so its a non issue for many. Second is that the PS4 seems to have the edge in indie games. These are usually much cheaper and shorter with less funding so they aren’t like mainstream games. However, many indie games are great for younger kids and even targeted at their age group. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks. He likes the kinect at his cousins house, so that’s where I’m leaning, but I have a general aversion to Microsoft products. His grandparents are states away, so the Skype thing sounds cool. I’m not much of a gamer, but shit, who knows, I have a great TV and sound system, so maybe I’ll find some games I like.

Hah yeah the upcoming games offered are pretty cool, so you might just find yourself interested. Last thing I would offer is that in my opinion the ps4 i easier to navigate through menus and just simpler to use. Anyone who has an xbox one may call BS, and I could be wrong as I haven’t used one yet. But looking at videos of others navigating the menus it seems more complex. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind with a 6 year old.

People fight over consoles every time a new one comes out. The fact is neither is bad, and they both even out in terms of advantages and disadvantages. Biggest difference would be in exclusive games, and that falls down to preference as well.

If he’s only 6 get a WiiU.

More kid friendly games and console are way cheaper.

Down the road if he wants either an Xbox one or ps4 you can pick one up for much cheaper.

I preordered both at the time and ended up keeping the xbox one. I like it but honestly I’m still finishing the games I was playing on 360 still.

+1 on this.

Or honestly just get a ps3 or xbox 360. Much cheaper, games are cheaper, and theres tons of them. I keep coming back to my ps3 to replay old games or play the ones I missed. Like I said, at the moment not too many games available. I’ve never been a big fan of the wii, just because everyone I know buys them and then after 2 weeks never touches them again. To each his own though

I still think the PS4 is better. TitanFall is pretty sweet though.

+2 This gen should be at least as long as the last, which was about 10 years I think.

Titanfall is a masterpiece. Can’t wait for the dlc and updates coming. Supposed to have an update that includes private matches. That was the only thing I didn’t like.

I’d like to see more weapon choices for the pilots. That’s my only real gripe.

I think you use that term rather loosely.
