Xbox 360 or PS3

OK, I got my son the XBOX360 (core) for Christmas. The core unit was all that was available at the moment.

As a minimum, I need another controller so he can kick my ass at Madden. What other accessories, in order of priority, I should plan on getting?

I have a LinkSys wireless adapter that we had bought a while back. I never got it to work consistently with the PS@ though. Does anyone have a good word on the LinkSys adapter with the 360?

I was talking to a buddy of mine at Electronics Boutique the other day about the supposed glitches everyone is having. He said realisticaly the glitches are occuring 1 in every 500 machines. That may sound like a ton, but in truth, its a small number considering the volume of machines that were sent out. The EB he works at is sold out until march 06’ so those worrying about glitches should feel at ease considering the particular glitch that got news worthy was a overheating problem, which at extremes ended up melting the cpu. Yay for no glitches!

Guys, just thought I should let you know, Sony doesn’t have exclusive rights to Rockstar Games anymore. The GTA series is no longer exclusively Sony property, so the PS3 no longer has the advantage of being the only system that will get the new GTA.

The wirless adapter is immensly better for the 360 BUT I would still go ahead and wire it to the router anyway(better signal strength NO MATTER WHAT!) As for peripherals, get him an xbox live gold account so he can kick other peoples ass’s oh and he’ll need a headset so he can talk some serious smack about other kids dad’s not being T-men.

Oh i forgot to mention to get him a harddrive so he will never need a memory card and be able to download all the neat goodies off xbox live.

Hardwire to the router is not real practical for us. The house is wired for DirecTV and there is only cable internet drop in the house… in the office. He can play there sometimes, but I’d rather he play it in his room.

I am hoping that the LinkSys wireless will work better than it did with the PS2. If not, I’ll get the XBOX wireless adapter. My LinkSys wireless for the computer works great.

It all depends on that… if I have to get the wireless adapter, the other stuff waits. If not, the HD is next up. The XBOX Live Gold is a given!

  1. your a good father.

  2. your going to need the “play-n-charge” kit. it has a rechargeable battery and a little usb cord that charges the battery as you play and even when the box is off.

  3. as for the wireless adapter, you can give it try, but i doubt it will work because, M$ is all about the money they make a wireless adapter that they want you to buy. but i could always be wrong.

Microsoft got out of the wireless buisness, it was too competitive for them.
They could bring one out for the Xbox 360, or just licence other companies.

Or, just buy 100 ft of ethernet cable, it’s acually cheaper than wireless internet (and easier than figureing out wireless.)

Prof X, if you’re an old school fan this may entice you. MS has something called Xbox Live Arcade. Its basically an arcade with classic arcade games on it (the also have the HD versions of pool, spades, hearts etc.). If the game was multiplayer its now PLAYABLE over Xbox Live. They have Gauntlet and SmashTVa dn can be played with people on Live. One game thats coming real soon is…Track and Field! I cant WAIT for that one!

I am going to wait it out for the PS3, due to having done my Xmas shopping already and brand loyalty to PS.

UPDATE! We got our hands on the full system. Now I have a 360 core system for sale!

the Xbox is worth the money just for Halo2 on Xbox Live - that game alone has ludicrous re-play value, not to mention, NCAA '06, Madden’06, Battlefront II, NBA 2K6, and the Tom Clancy games.

Xbox 360 right now is a moot point - if you can get your hands on one. i.e. you have shell out 700-800 to get one on ebay or stand in line and camp out in front of your local Best Buy like a yom for 2 days to get one at retail.

But still, I played the demo of Call of Duty 2 for the 360 and it is a ridiculously cool game. The graphic detail on that thing is amazing. they put wood grain on the carbine, and the little hairs on the soldier’s arm moves with the wind and shit.

For 400 it’s worth it. To pay 800 on ebay, a bit desperate if you ask me.

Sorry for being so late with this, but is that the ones that are reported or for every single Xbox 360 that was made? What about the ones that parents wrapped up and won’t get played until Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Seems like the forums I have visited it is happening a lot more often. Some guys have said they didn’t have glitches, but when left on for a long time, then they had them.

Just a thought.

What no mention of the Nintendo Revolution? I’m actually pretty curious about the controller it has. But yeah Halo 3 , do I need to say any more. Just the big problem is that there is a major shortage of the system coming in so its really hard to get one.

Hate to ressurect an old thread, but I just bit the bullet and put in an order for a 360, cost me 625(overnight shipping included, what can I say, I don’t want to wait) and comes with an extra controller, and Elder Scrolls and “the Outfit” plus a two month subscription to gamefly which I thought would be pretty cool since I can check out games before I buy them.

I was trying so hard to hold out for a price drop, but failed after playing my friend’s…fuck it, Ghost Recon looks unreal on his, and Battlefield 2 is coming out in April so I had to have one.

Congrats on your purchase. Yeah I saw Ghost Recon advanced warfighter, the graphics are amazing in HD. Almost makes me want to buy a 360…almost.

Personally I’ll be waiting for PS3:

Full Backwards compatibility

Blue Ray Drive (if it fails as a console I can at least watch HD movies.)

The best xbox360 has to offer is xbox live, and I don’t wish to pay for online service.

PS3 was announced to include harddrive in each console. Xbox360 decided to make it optional. Talk about going backwards.

I wanted for Microsoft to “win” but they fail this time by not including HD-DVD.

Anybody actually score an Xbox 360? Are the errors as prevelant as mentioned on the news?

Both the PS2 and the first Xbox had bugs that needed to be worked out when originally released. There are even rumors of some systems catching on fire before minor glitches were fixed. I wouldn’t expect for this to be any different…which is why rushing to be the first one on the block with a new system probably isn’t the smartest move.[/quote]

I remember this cocky kid I went to elementary school with – he got the Nintendo Virtual Boy as soon as it came out, and proceeded to rub it in peoples’ faces. Anyone remember how long the Virtual Boy lasted?

About 10 minutes. One day I said “Oh, cool, the Virtual Boy.” Then I took a shower and everybody forgot what it was.

Due to the Sony Root Kit fiasco, I’ll never purchase another Sony product. I had been a devoted Sony customer up to that point too.

If you get a 360, get the kit that does include the hardrive. It’s cheaper to buy the options as kits instead of one item at a time.

  1. Blu-ray is still being tweaked, because of the “lock out”. nobody fucking wants lock out.

  2. you will pay for the ps3 “live” service.

  3. some people cant afford the whole premium package thing, so leaving options out for the people to decide on is smarter, instead of forcing everyone to buy a 500$ video game system

  4. why put an expensive ass hd-dvd player in, when alot of people are buying video game consoles, to play video games not watch movies on a platform thats not even out yet.

  5. Sony reps have gotten fired because they went public saying that the ps3 and the 360 where the same, even giving the 360 an edge.

  6. Sony has decided to go with hdmi inputs, forcing people to buy newer hd tvs.

  7. i use to be a sony fan, i’ve converted and ms will win. they have more developers on their side making games.
