Update. Did a similar workout and tried out a couple of front squat techniques. The crossed arm thing feels better but the limiting factor is feeling my thumbs digging into my neck. Needs more work.
I did however hit a 165kg trap bar deadlift, a PR if I’m honest with myself about cheating on lockout. Which was nice.
I also got a kettlebell swings time PR. Also nice. I am almost convinced my next program will be another ride on the Built for Battle horse, this time the all out strength option but with more conditioning work.
Still here. B4B Strength is going to be difficult to set up under COVID rules - no moving weights or equipment between stations, and this version needs two barbells and the trapbar. I am getting more confident about the front squats, though. Was planning to be in the gym today (was in on Sunday and Wednesday) but couldn’t go for my timed slot so hit the kettlebell. 13 mins 43.
What have I been doing? Last week I did the first week of the B4B strength option, tested my maxes on Sunday, and got two PRs - 170kg on trapbar deadlift, a 5kg PR, and 140kg on front squat, a 10kg PR. Monday off. Tuesday I couldn’t get a slot at the gym so did one of the 10k swing challenge workouts, 13 mins 50.
Wednesday did 1 hour 30 of ballet via Anna du Boisson’s zoom, the first time for a while. And today back to the gym for B4B Tuesday + 500 KB swings.
I am hoping to get back to the studio this weekend.
What have I been up to? Not dancing much although I did get back in a studio twice before they shut down again. Also, I did a four-week B4B strength option block before the gyms shut down again, which got my trap bar DL up to 170kg and my front squat from not ever doing them to 140kg. The gyms are shut, so it’s back to the kettlebell.
Today’s delight: Dan John has produced a version 2.0 of the 10k swing challenge.
I did Option 3 today with the 24kg belle. Did 4x lunges, 2 each side, rather than the pumps for some reason, took the carriers twice the length of the building on each side. Time: 19 minutes 44 seconds 45. Observations:
Yeah, that’s going to do it! I like the variety of it, and damn, when the repeat set comes around you’re going to hate it.
Today I hit that kettlebell. After the first five rounds for some crazy reason I thought it was going too quickly and stopped to check the program. That’s my excuse for a time of 18.49
Ballet with a teacher on zoom I haven’t previously met. The class turned out to be a bit easy so it was the equivalent of deload week - all kinds of compliments from madame. Even for turns.
Then out into the rain with the kettlebell for 16 minutes. Notes: I experimentally did overhead rather than goblet squats. Notes 2: I couldn’t unlock the phone to stop the clock because it was covered in rain water so the time is conservative.
Yesterday: my beloved teacher Renato Paroni is online, to some extent, via the English National Ballet website. Not in two-way, but even playback is worth it, so I took the class. 1h 15mins, very familiar if you went to his regular classes, and left me both startlingly better and with my legs on fire.
Today: kettlebells. 13 minutes 30 for a MASSIVE TIME PR. And a fox walked up from the street and right past me while I was at it. Thanks, tailbro!
Doing my regular teacher’s zoom class in an hour’s time.
