Supporting Joe Paterno and and caring about the victims are not mutually exclusive positions.

Anyone who supports Joe Paterno is an awful person
And not everyone at PSU does
Again, the impression I’m getting is most PSU students do.
Based on?
The comments on Penn State’s facebook page, the student in the Youtube video stating his views are in the minority, the support shown at the tailgate party (Penn State -- Fans Show Love for Joe Paterno), the rally/riot for JoePa, the lack of a counter rally to support the Paterno Firing.

I’m not watching the game, but apparently the JoePa supporters are wearing white instead of blue. How many of the fans at the game are wearing white?

I feel no sympathy for him. He had the chance to take that fucker out, but totally dropped the ball. If he had selfish intent (whatever that entailed), a quick mental forethought could have driven that selfishness into heroism… if he had only reacted like a hero and taken Sandusky the fuck down on the spot. Imagine THAT headline!
X 2

X 1,000,000

and as for his “being placed on leave”, that will hopefully just be a prelude to him getting fired, and then going to jail (as criminal charges are being brought against him).
WTF? “Double fisting booze”? Is that a good example to set for underage college students? He is seriously lacking in common decency.

That last part is dumb, students have worn white for literally every home game since I’ve gone there. So I imagine a lot are. That’s the shirt you buy to wear to games.

Counter rally? This wasn’t an organized rally… students found out about at a time when they were already out drinking and did some dumb shit. And, why on earth would you rally in support of something that already happened? That makes no sense.

An opinion of one fan… a facebook page (btw, the Paterno supporters are more vocal than the ones who support the firing, doesn’t mean they outnumber them. The people who wanted him fired (like me) have nothing to vent about, so you don’t see those views being posted).

Again, there is no reason to speak out in support of his firing. He’s already been fired so there’s nothing to rally about. So those of us in support have no reason to look for avenues to vent.

The majority opinion of PSU fans I know just want McQueary and Curley to get the fuck out of dodge… McQ retired but Curley is still on PAID leave as far as I know

Let me amend my previous statement: our biggest gripe actually is that Paterno is taking 90% of the coverage and it’s ridiculous. So I support him in the sense that they should be talking about Sandusky and the victims way more. I actually had to explain to someone at work that Paterno wasn’t the one molesting kids, for god’s sake

x2. The way he’s been railroaded you would think he had been the one molesting kids. He’s just the best known name so he gets the most coverage. Most ppl, who don’t follow college football or PSU, are like “Sandusky who? McQueary who?”

I understand people wear white, but today white has been SPECIFICALLY assigned as the colour to support JoePa.

 1. No reason? Large groups of people at your school are literally rallying in support of someone who protected a pederast for years. By staying home and not showing any support for the decision, they are allowing the rioters to represent the average view of PSU students in the media.

No. It’s not. But our society is want to tear down icons when they can. Look at this thread. It makes lesser people feel better about themselves and their lives.

But he was the captain of the ship. And like a CEO of an under-performing company, he’s ultimately accountable from a captain of the ship perspective.

Now, as to his moral and legal accountability, we cannot determine that until we know all the FACTS. Presently, we do not, no matter how high and loud somewhere here jumps up and down and “screams” otherwise. Most people here have a hard time separating fact from speculation but hey, most people aren’t smart enough not to drive the speed limit or less in the passing lane.

Just copy and paste your posts from now on. It would be easier than typing the same thing over and over.

Yeah.

I’m just wondering how many times someone can attack it without addressing the actual point which is pretty fucking simple.

Is it really necessary to shout outrage at a pedophile? I think that outrage goes without saying. Plus a pedophile is a pedophile and there really isn’t much more to say about it.

LOL

I thought that might shift the T-Nation world’s axis just a bit.

I’ve actually been meaning to say pretty much exactly what she said. Maybe this is the first step on the long, long road to reconciliation. Who knows?

No offense, but I highly doubt that.
