WTF Penn State?!?!?!

all i am saying is that the focus should be on the fact that paterno ignored sexual abuse going on within his program,

can you provide the factual basis, sans speculation, for the above conclusion?
The focus should be on McQueary who SAW IT… or Curley, the Athletic Director (who also oversaw a woman’s basketball coach who openly hated lesbians and would not allow them on the team) was not fired. He took an “administrative leave”, what the fuck.

Neither of them were fired when Paterno and Spanier were.

I had to expalin to my coworker yesterday that Paterno was not actually the one who sexually abused the kids. The media coverage on him is misplaced and dangerous.

That’s a pretty rational statement after viewing 5% of the studentship rioting and .0001% of the total student/alumni base.

You should probably base your opinion of 40,000 people based on 3 who were interviewed.
I thought so too, but after reading the penn state facebook page comments and the guy in the video saying his views are the minority at the school I changed my mind.

Maybe. Maybe not. But all the fuckwads protesting at that rally certainly can’t think beyond the end of their noses.

It’d be interesting to see if a counter-rally turns up in the next few days. If not, I’m inclined to vouch for your above statement.

Also this.

I can’t speak for current students, but based on my friends and the hundreds of alums on my facebook, most are ok with the firing (and pissed about others not being fired), same as I am.

^that being said, those who are against the firing are much louder about it.

With Paterno it is NOT a legal issue…it is a MORAL one.

You are in charge, you are the man…everybody knows it.

You heard that Sandusky was caught in the shower by (his words) “a visibly shaken Graduate Assistant” with a 10 YEAR OLD BOY…

There is no reasonable explanation for a grown man to be showering with a young boy in a deserted building.

You see Sandusky on campus several times WITH CHILDREN. You do nothing.

You admit that “in hindsight, you should have done more to stop him”

You get fired…it’s not that complicated.

THIS x 10 billion. At this point anyone who’s arguing otherwise just likes to hear themselves talk, or watch themselves type in this case.

The district attorney who tried and failed to prosecute Jerry Sandusky in 1998 after reports of sexual abuse emerged, has been missing since 2005 and was declared legally dead in July.

Ray Gricar disappeared on April 15 six years ago after telling his girlfriend he was going for a drive.
His body was never found, only his abandoned car and his laptop which had been tossed in the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania without its hard drive.

In 1998, Gricar had attempted to bring a case against Penn State former football defence coordinator Jerry Sandusky on child rape charges.
The case of Sandusky, accused of years of abuse of boys that allegedly was covered up by school officials, has shaken the university and its football programme.

So now was he murdered? Perhaps by someone trying to cover up the Sandusky sex abuse.
I say he is living down south america living off the millions Penn State paid him.
GAHH this story is so dumb. It was 7 years after any mention of Sandusky had come across his desk. He saw one incident in 98 and he had nothing he could prosecute with.

Dude busted up an ecstacy ring from NY, had run ins with drug mobs from Philly… all much closer to the time he disappeared. Stop trying to make connections with everything in town to the Sandusky thing.

Is someone arguing he shouldn’t be fired? I thought TBG was just saying he deserved less vitriol but I sorta skimmed over the past few pages.

Lol slow your roll I was just fucking around.

^^^ he seems to be arguing that we don’t know exactly how much Paterno knew. If he knew that a 60 year old man was showering with a 10 year old boy - WHICH HE CLEARLY DID - then he knew enough. There is no grey here.

This is now hitting CNN and apparently part of the investigation is trying to determine if there is a tie-in here…What if? That would be a jump down the rabbit hole for sure…

Ever been to a University locker room? I was in one all the time as a 12 year old boy using the facilities. Used to shower among men all the time after using the pool. If Sandusky had the kid involved in some athletic endeavor, showering when you’re finished in a large shower area is not unreasonable in my opinion, unless you think that something salacious has to occur any time people of the same sex shower together (and apparently there is that presumption, which in a way, is sad). Remember, this is a college campus/athletic facility and communal showering is not the least bit odd. Can you even imagine how large the shower area is?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Here’s hoping to none of us ever being judged by the “hindsight standard”.

I took no position on his firing. I’m saying we can’t judge him until we know everything he knew, was informed of, and when. Ever stop to think his higher ups misled him too? He IS a witness for the prosecution. If after a year the testimony is they lied to or misled Joe Pa too, would that change your opinion? I’ll say it again; I do not believe for one minute that Joe Pa knew abuse was occurring and turned a blind eye. I don’t buy it. If however, after a full airing of the FACTS in this case, it points to Joe Pa knowing, I’ll lead the lynch mob.

I don’t know how many times I can repeat the same fucking thing.

This is an athletic facility. I used to shower among men all the time as a 12 year old on a college campus. If Sandusky had the kid working out or some such thing, it’s not absolutely inappropriate for them to be showering in a large communal locker room shower. You act as if they were showering together in a lone stall, in the guy’s house. Just remember the setting. Large locker room facility. Large communal showers. Athletic facility. You played sports growing up? Yes? You showered among your peers.

And again, for the umpteenth time, Paterno reported what was reported to him. What we DON’T know is what was reported back to him thereafter. Again, what he knew or didn’t know, and when.

Hindsight.

Dude I am beginning to think you are just trolling…you said you read the grand jury testimony BY Paterno and McQuery.

If you had you would have read that McQuery caught them in the shower AFTER THE BUILDING WAS SHUT DOWN.

His testimony said he had to “turn on the lights to see the locker to retrieve his shoes, when he heard the shower running” “when he investigated and saw the inappropriate contact”

Jesus man, are you trying for “the devil’s advocate stupid argument of the year” award?

And further…this is not a municipal pool or gym locker room…this is a COLLEGE FOOTBALL LOCKER ROOM.

If you can explain why 60 year old dude was showering with a 10 year old boy in the dark, please enlighten me.

McQuery told Paterno this…Paterno did not stop Sandusky from coming back on campus and around the program.

Fired.

Actually, from what I remember Joe was told (and admits he was told) that it was contact of a sexual nature.

Jesus fucking Christ. Paterno ADMITTED to being told that Sandusky was raping/fondling/horsing around with a naked 10 year old boy in the locker rooms after hours. Again, HE ADMITTED THIS. Don’t know how many times we can say this.
