WTF, No Suit Fits!
thr_wedge wrote:

Have you ever worn a suit before?
This is actually a good question. Many people feel that suits don’t fit right simply because they’ve never worn them and are not used to how suits actually fit. Suits don’t allow for a lot of movement or flexibility so people just assume they’re tight and don’t fit them well.

I can’t imagine it…

Mutant. They like to be called “mutants”. His mutant ability is apparently to have a waist so small and shoulders so big that people are hypnotized by his proportions when he walks past.

This obviously allows him to shop at Baby Gap in peace.

I was guilty of starting one of these threads, actually I was just asking for good places to get a suit and not gloating over my (almost-linkda) buffness as this thread seems to be about, so I will give you a real answer. By the way, 5’7" 180 with 46 suit jacket, 31" waist.

Go to stores that sell suit separates. Buy the appropriate size - though you might want to go a little bigger in the waist with the pants so your pant legs do not rub (assuming they might, if not, they should) plus you will be wearing a belt anyway. Then, get it tailored. Many of the newer suits are more deconstructed - less shoulder pads - or you can have the pads removed or changed for smaller pads. I went through this last summer. Suit fits fine and looks good. Total cost was somewhere around $300 - the suits separates where half off at the time.

And, quite trying to get the jacket to fit snug around your waist. A good tailor will tell you if you are asking for too much of a taper - which will also be somewhat dictated by the pattern/material/cut of the suit.

This is what I mean.

Uh, no. Because unless you look like Brian Buchanan. I am seriously doubting you have “too much of a v-taper”.
There is a difference between too much V-taper with your shirt off and too much V-taper to fit in suits designed for the general public.

hay guize i weight 120 punds and am 6 foot twelve and i cant get jeans that fit around my swole legs

can i has some help? where do u guyz get ur genes from?

It’s clear, there are no other options. Just get a bigger abdominal so your suits fit correctly.

It’s a good thing with snickers ice cream cake is the answer to the problem.

“Go to stores that sell suit separates.” >> Do you mean places where jacket and pants are sold separately? That was another issue I was having. They would have to take in the pants a lot if I bought them together.

The thing is, I have a couple suits from back in the days that fit okay. They are loose around the waist so it doesn’t look tight and fitted but it doesn’t look retarded either. I was shopping for the “power suit” that’s well fitted and tight to your body and moves the way you move type thing. The attention whore type suit for say you wanted to give a presentation to a table of executives.

Yeah, and it shows you don;t know how to wear a suit. The goal is NOT to have your suit jacket waist look like you are wearing a belt.

Suit separates - jacket and pants sold individually. Stores like Macy’s, for example. That way pants do not have to be taken in.

I do not know what a power suit is. Can you plug your iPod into it? A good suit is not tight - it lays well and moves with you. I think you are looking for a power suit but expecting a deconstructed, I am worn by Zack Ephron, type suit. Two different things.

A well tailored suit will look better, at any price, than one that does not fit. “Fit” here is not tight. In fact, at your build you may not even look like you are athletic. (Suits hide mens’ figures well. Think about it, they accentuate the shoulders, hide the gut and draw the eye, via the tie, to your face. Pleats cover your ass.) The latest fashion in suits is a snug fit but a good suit should not scream the year and season you buy it. This is not the same suit you see on male models and young(er) actors at the moment (an earlier thread talked about how male models where suit jackets smaller than 40 now at 6ft. Anyone with some muscle on them will look silly in this.) If you really want a great lifetime type suit - one that flows and moves with you- ask around about tailors, go to higher end suit shops - Brooks Brothers, for example - and expect to have multiple fittings and spend enough money.

OR, follow the advice already given by me and others in this thread and the multiple like it in the achieves.

PS If you do not know how to get a suit to fit you probably do not have much reason for a power suit. If you are going to work somewhere where such a suit is needed, ask around at the office.

Here’s what you gotta do…While trying to pick up chickies (oops forgot you have a girlfriend). While waiting for your girlfriend sometime, find a stop sign on a busy street corner somewhere. Rip it out using nothing but your bare hands. Throw it down while letting out a barbaric yell. If memory serves, this is known technically known as the legal cock block (I guess due to your girlfriend now being to pissed to give it up). This will in no way help you find a suit however, it WILL increase your awesomeness tenfold!!

BTW I have serious character issues.

WTF That’s some pretty good randomness lol.

Some good advice there. Thanks.

Do you agree with this suit fitting video at 1:19 ?

That’s the tightness I am trying to achieve. When it’s not tight like that, it looks okay but if I sit down that chest region opens up. I can use it like a cup holder. If I do pull it tight like that, it looks retarded (see earlier picture i posted).

You unbutton a suit when you sit down and button it back up when you stand up.

i went to Men’s Wearhouse the other day, just looking for some formal stuff. all the jackets were really snug around my arms so i ended up just going with a vest which is cool cause my arms are fine in that, but the under shirts will still probaly be a bitch.
That’s why you don’t wear a shirt under the vest.

I really cannot believe I watched that. Crap.

Okay, the guy seems to know what he is talking about. I think it depends on how many buttons you have on your suit coat (2, 3, 4, double breasted?) on how it will fit an athletic frame. I could not find a jacket that rested flat on my chest without looking like I was wearing a tent elsewhere. So, mine folds a little bit - but that helped keep the jacket size and overall bulk down a bit.

I remember the main character from American Psycho had a decent build and wore lots of suits (it has been years since I have seen this movie). You could see how they fit him. Another possibility, The scene in the first Daniel Craig 007 movie where he tries on his first tux. That might give you an idea.

You are going to have to accept some “bagginess” in the jacket around the waist, most likely.

Okay, I am taking my toys home now. Good luck.

5’10 178 having problems finding clothes that fit.
