187lbs @ 5’8, no problem here. Perhaps you looked just at a few places for a suit?

Mostly suits made out of unicorn skin. I have a few albino unicorn suits which I break out only for special occasions.
I guess I should have emphasized “WELL under $1500”. Most of my suits range from 60,000-80,000 yen (roughly 600-800 USD) but being in Japan I pay more than I would back in Canada.
Assuming you don’t live in downtown NYC, you should be able to get a good, tailored suit for $500.
So…basically your idea was this: I really want to brag about how sweet I wish I was, but I don’t want to come off as an uber douche^3. What should I do? I got it! I’ll post a thread about how no clothes will fit me because of my sick V-taper and swole quadz! Thats teh shitz!1!!1
5’10" and 178? Yeah I’m sure you’re busting out of everything the Baby Gap has to offer.

Agreed…he should avoid women’s clothing shops or areas of department stores marked “Boys” and/or “Toddler”.

I can get one right now for about 200 bucks from Men’s Warehouse and I usually wear a 3X tee shirt.
I hear you can get suits real cheap in Korea.
People, 178lb has nothing to do with it. Before I lifted a single dumbell I had a V-taper. I have all the width I want but desire more thickness. However, this thread isn’t about figure. It’s about finding out where you people buy your suits. Only 2 or 3 serious responses in here.
“Get it tailored, then buy the fucker!! THE END!!” – Ya, maybe you like to spend money on things that don’t look good. Not me.
“Is she a tailor?” – Cuz you know, everyone that knows what looks good on people have to be tailors right?
Most suits have a 8" difference from pants to jacket. A 42" jacket comes with 36" pants and so on. I have to mix and match the 38" pants with a 50" jacket and have the jacket tailored. I avoid anything with big shoulder pads. The last suit I got was when I was up around 245-250, now I’m closer to 230 and haven’t tried it on in about a year. I do have a selection of sport jackets, at least 2 of those fit most of the time.

LOL, was just looking up images of ppl with V-taper to see if I can find one that looks like me and found a website on “How to develop the V Taper” which tells you to workout lats 3 times and week then workout shoulders 3 times a week.
theres no way you can get a suit for 200 at men’s wearhouse. their jackets alone start at 250+

OMG Eurika, that must be it!!!

I thought you could get suits cheaper over there. Everything here is made Japan.[/quote]
I wish. Before I came here I erroneously assumed “sweet! I’ll get a playstation and a Panasonic plasma TV for like 6 bucks” because all that electronic stuff is made here. No such luck, they pretty much charge on par with the rest of the world.
Korea has cheap suits, but the real deal is in Vietnam. The city of Hoi An, in particular. These guys do everything by hand, and well, and CHEAP. I got an awesome suit for $150 dollars that would probably cost me a grand in the states. It was funny, I got fitted early in the morning and spent the rest of my day on a Vespa sightseeing…I drove past the tailors at 11pm at night and the whole family was making my suit as they ate dinner on the floor. The son was working on the sleeves, the mom was doing the pants, the father was working on the jacket and the daughter was doing the buttons. In the middle of the floor/work area was a pot of boiling noodles that they were eating from. I thought “shit, this is going to be shoddy as hell” but I picked it up and it was incredible. Three years later, its in perfect condition and I still wear it

There are a bunch outlets around that always have deals on suits. The last one I got cost me $99 and looks great after I had it fitted, which they hit me up for another $30. For something I wear 3 times a year, its the way to go for me.

beachguy498’s comment reminded that for all the suits I tried on (multiple suits from 6 different stores), my jacket size was either 42 or 44". With the typical suit shoulder pad, it looks even wider. Now imagine pulling that down to a 31" at the waist. So ridiculous.

That’s why they tailor it. When I was lighter I was a 44 jacket and a 32 inch waist, extra long. They had no problem tailoring in the jacket waist to make it fit.
42 to a 31 is pretty much about a 10" drop. That is pretty standard for the “athletic” cut.
I wear a 44 jacket and 34 pants in a suit. Bought 2 for $200 and another $100 to get the jackets taken in a little and the pants taken in(standard is 8" drop I believe). $300 for two suits that fit me well.
Have you ever worn a suit before?
Why are tailored suits so expensive everywhere? Here in Bahrain I paid the equivalent of 160 USD for the material and tailoring for a really well made suit. Additionally I doubt the price would go very much higher if I wasn’t 5’7" and 148lbs.

I can’t imagine it…
You’re a freak of nature.

Uh, no. Because unless you look like Brian Buchanan. I am seriously doubting you have “too much of a v-taper”.
