He’d never done a car walk and he won it, lol. That’s what I’m saying makes him scary, and if not specifically for this show, moving forward. I did see he’s never done a truck pull before, but I can say from my own experience, that may not hurt him much. Just getting to fuck around with the apparatus a little bit beforehand, and talking to other competitors, should be enough to make him competitive in that event. It’s not like, say, logs or stones, where you NEED technique practice. It’s just quick small steps, lean forward hard, keep the rope tight, don’t stop ever.
I did hear him say he was very good at yoke but had never done a car walk. This years car walk was basically a yolk with a car around it. It wasn’t a slung car like back in the day.
Hooper won the first event with some seconds to spare from 2nd Tom and 3rd Novikov.
Predicting he beats Tom on everything but loses to him on stones and Tom just wins because he’s a genetic freak on stones.
I was about to up date the same thing. Except the prediction. I’m not bold enough to make one of those anymore.
I can’t see Hooper winning. but aside from the stones - I can not see him losing an event until the bus pull or stones either.
I never make predictions honestly, I just realllllly want the guy to win.
He would be an anti-hero strongman champion. Mentioned his lack of passion for the sport and how he is sort of passing through for now. He works a full time job and just stays ultra-calm for events.
He also blatantly criticized hot and cold therapy - that of which all of the guys are doing pretty much.
Whether he’s right or wrong, there’s something super authentic to him that seems too good to be true, especially given the whole scandal with Boyd/Stoltman.
(half expecting Hooper to win every event then just ascend up to his space ship before the award ceremony and mysteriously disappear)
Oleksii won the deadlift for reps, Tom ties second and Mitch hopper ties for third.
Oseksii in first after two events, then Tom then Mitch. I think both Tom and Oleskii will beat Mitch on the flintstone overhead lift. Looks like this could be a good fight between those two.
Right now Tom, Martins and Oleksii are all the last standing in contention for 235kg on flintstone press.
Big jump from 226kg, and I think it’s going to give Tom the room he needs to get ahead of Oleksii and Martins.
Rooting for the two underdogs; don’t want Tom to win but at this point whoever takes it earns it.
Are you watching the spreadsheets or Uncle Loz live on YouTube
Loz on youtube.
Tom won the flintstone with 7 stones, Oleksii and Martins only 6. I think Tom is going to be very hard to beat.
Top three after three events-
Tom - 27.5 Oleksii - 26.5 Martins - 20.5
Novikov made 240, and is attempting 246 right now. Tom bowed out.
Yep spreadsheet just changed now
Oleksii 27.5 Tom 27
It is so frustrating waiting for a spreadsheet to update.
Oleksii got it - holy crap.
Oleksii 28 - Tom - 26.5.
Tomorrow Is going to be exciting
My prediction for Oleksii to get his 2nd win looking good.
Olesksii is amazing. Events tomorrow are very good for Tom. Bus pull, power stairs and stones. If Oleksii can beat him then he truely is the strongest man in earth this year
Oleksii flopped on power stairs, Tom wins unless he fucks up on the stones.
That can’t be all that far from a world record in the clean and jerk if we were comparing sports. It is significantly different, but that amount of weight overhead has only been done by a few.
World record is 260kg for clean and jerk. Don’t not forget that is in a WADA tested sport.
Make of that as you will. But I’d guess very few Olympic athletes are running multiple grams of compounds a week. Where as very few WSM finalists are not.
Tom has done it and is 2022 WSM. Tom was 3rd in the bus pull, second on the power stairs and absolutely blitzed the stones to win.
Oleksii won the bus pull but then it all went wrong for him, he was 7th on power stairs, and dead last on the stones.
This allowed Martins to get second place, they had the same overall points but Martins beat him on stones so gets second. Oseksii takes third.
Really upset about the format of the comps and the fact that they do not show it live. This looks full of drama. Same as last year. But I wont be bothered to watch it on TV now.
Not only did you call the podium - but I’ve been thinking about this. And the health / depth of athlete right now.
Tom is double WSM champ. And still only 27 or 28?. Licis and Novikov are both young (31 &26). All 3 have amazing potential. All 3 could have won this year given a bit of luck. The really exciting thing is - you know full well that Licis and Novikov are coming back hard after this. If Tom wants a triple crown next year - its not coming easy. They will push him to the absolute limit. In the same way Shaw and Z did. The reason those two were so good was each other. They had to be that good to win.
To have that sort of competition go 3 ways in insane. And that is with out considering Kieliszkowski who will be formidable if he ever gets over his injury issues.
We are very blessed right now with regards to strongmen. And in 5-10 years could see a group of all time greats emerge.
