Would You Buy These Tickets?

Here in Houston, a local radio station is selling tickets to one of there annual concerts called Buzz Festivus. The catch is that they will not tell anybody who is performing until all tickets are sold out.

What kind of crap is this?

The only thing this shows me is how the radio stations have monopolized the market. This is their ultimate ego boost.

How much are the tickets?

How much are you willing to risk?

Do you know where the DJ lives?

Have they done this before? If so you could check the previous show’s band list to see if they get shit local bands, good local bands, big bands, etc.

It is supposed to be a very famous band and a major venue.

I have never heard of them doing this before.

Check a few bands that fit the stations format, and check their concert calendar. See if it is “private party” or TBD or something like that

Nope. Price of tickets these days I’d only pay up if I knew what the hell I was seeing.

How much are they?

Personally, I wouldn’t buy them. If only because that kind of behavior from the radio station would piss me off. It seems they’re trying to help out a band that would otherwise not receive that kind of audience.

That is my point exactly.

For the record, I have no intention of buying these tickets. I was wanting to see what other people felt about this scenario.

It is kind of like a car salesman saying “just give me the money and I’ll pick out a car for you”.

I know a whole lot of people will buy these tickets just because of how heavily it is being promoted.

The Buzz Fest usually happens at the Woodlands Pavillion and is sort of a one off Lollipallooza/Ozzfest sort of thing with the bands of the moment. I used to go when I lived in Spring and had a blast. Saw The Offspring and such (this was late 90’s) Usually 5 or so bands.

I am guessing the Buzz is a Clear Channel owned station? If so, expect a major band or two that fits the station’s format, as well as a bunch of up and coming bands that so far have received limited airplay.

They control the concert business in most markets. You’ll probably get a pretty safe, middle of the road show. Don’t expect Metallica or that GNR reunion.

The talent pool was much better then. It is just pathetic how Clear Channel can pull this off.

I forgot to mention that the Woodlands Pavilion is probably one of the worst venues to see a show. The acoustics and show itself are great. They have turned into Nazis lately. You absolutely cannot bring anything in with you except for keys and money. You used to be able to bring drinks and blankets in. Now they jacked up the prices on everything.
