Would Casein-Infused Vodka Decrease Catabolism?

This has sort of been posted in another forum, but it was more of a light-hearted discussion digging on the Jersey Shore. The backstory is that some startup vodka has gotten itself on the map by getting a character from the show to endorse its product.

The vodka is the standard 80 proof with this caveat: each 1 1/2 ounce shot has 2 grams of casein.

The question is: Does this protein help offset the catabolic properties of alcohol or is it just going to be treated as empty calories and converted to fat because the body is going to metabolize the alcohol first. I’m guessing the answer lies somewhere in the middle, but I’d love to hear some opinions.

That fails so hard.

I bet that if there was any possible way for protein to harm a healthy individual, it would be this.

But to answer your question, it is 2 grams of protein. I doubt that is enough to do anything in the presence of a metabolic toxin.

Those 2 grams aren’t going to do shit. Just go and get some quality vodka and deal with the catabolic nature. Just don’t do it often. Or, do it even less often and drink some quality rum or whiskey versus settling for vodka haha

2 grams per shot. Could be 15+ grams depending how much you have

And the ratio between the alcohol and the casein stays the same.

I’m on the side that the casein would just get stored as fat. Your body’s priority is to get rid of the alcohol.

This is truly scary. Here are quotes from the ad campaign:

“This revolutionary spirit will create a new beverage category, while also defining
a new generation of vodka aficionados who devote themselves fully to
everything they do in life.”

"For athletes and anyone who takes care of their body and is
looking for the best products for their lifestyle, Devotion Vodka has to be
the choice.â??

“Devotion Vodka speaks to the masses. Its name Devotion shares many of the
same attributes of the worldâ??s greatest athletes and success stories:
commitment, drive and success.”

A reason to justify getting trashed because it’s “good for you.”

whatever happened to the good ol’ days of liquor marketing, when the only promise was that it would get you laid?

The real sad thing is that this is probably going to taste just as shitty, if not more than Ciroc and Smirnoff and is going to be just as big, if not bigger, bc A) people, especially young people don’t know jack shit about good tasting alcohol and think Captain Morgan actually tastes good and B) the people who are going to think this is actually healthy for them…

No. Ethanol grinds metabolism to a halt. Everything else is put on hold while it’s metabolized. (And by put on hold I mean put into storage forms. Fat.)

The casein wouldn’t even have a chance to do its job.

This is, of course, ignoring the fact that 2 grams is fucking nothing.

Complete waste of time and money, if you’re getting shitfaced just accept the consequences.

However, I predict the “bros” will endorse it en masse.

I guess the only potential “benefit” is that if it fills someone up to the point that he/she doesn’t get the drunk munchies and eat 3 slices of pizza at the end of the night. Sorta a stretch

This is awesome, and even more awesome because the situation is involved, and even more awesome that people will buy it.
