World's Strongest Man General Discussion

I did wonder where these two were.

Just not confirmed or not competing?

Licis just got stem cell treatment in Colombia. Not supposed to lift heavy for (?) months. I think he’s aiming for the Arnolds.

Mateusz K. is still recovering from a torn triceps. He’s taking recovery slow because I think he tore a biceps tendon, came back too soon training heavy, and believes it led to the torn triceps.

Yeah if he gets this one and really wants that record it will certainly be possible. Of course injuries and other factors wouldn’t lead me to bet on it, but that’s a hell of an age to have two titles at.

Events list from Uncle Loz. Looks interesting. And if I were to say anything - this final looks good events for a taller person, who is good at stones.

The final:
Giants Medley
Titans turn table
15kg keg for height
Max log
Dead lift for reps
Stones

I think Tom is in with a good shout to 2 events. And place top 5 in all. I hope so. I like the Stoltman boys. Which bring us FULL circle:

Get the bookies. Put a bet on.

I’m glad they’ve brought back the Fingal’s Fingers in the heats, just a shame they’ve still got to do that bloody stone off (not that there was any chance of it being dropped).
Looking forward to seeing Titan’s Turntable and Keg Toss for height. And the train pull.

Good vid from Loz with him, Hicks and Felix training. Good to see guys who have competed together for years just training and having fun. For 55 Mark is incredible. It would be great to see him make the finals this year.

Yeah I watched this. I follow Uncle Loz on YouTube.

Hicks hitting 400kg dead lift on an axle. I think he is dark horse for the final.

Came across Uncle Loz’s channel late last year and been watching it almost obsessively ever since haha. He’s doing such a great job of getting Strongman information into the public domain. Plus I think his ‘Talking Strongman’ videos are brilliant.
I’ve also been following the ‘World’s Strongest Fan’ channel as well, its mainly a collection of training videos from various athletes but still interesting to watch.
I agree about Hicks. If he makes it (into the final) injury free past the first event this time, with Deadlift and Max Log events to follow he could certainly shake things up.

Yer agree Hicksy is going well and his bicep seems to have healed up pretty good. His strength should be up there just not sure about his speed on carry events. Will be interesting to see how he goes.

Titans turn table is “apparently” a train on an old turn table. Fastest guy to complete 180 degrees.

You’ve got to favour bigger guys here. Body weight will be important.
As an event I like it. Visually great and also - how do you train for that? Also how can you argue against it. The the strongest guy will be fastest.

I agree with you that intuitively, this should favor the bigger guys. However, that’s the same thing people used to say about the wheel of pain at the Arnold’s, which seems like a very similar event. That was won by Martins and Kiels, not the heaviest competitors in either year.

Yeah - I guess its an advantage but not the be all and end all.

I really can;t wait for that. I think its going to look amazing.

3 weeks out:
Who is following who on their social media and whats it looking like?
Whats your guesses for the final?
Whats your guess for the podium?

I follow the Stoltman boys. And they look in good shape.
Luke looks like he could reach the final. As long as he is not in a group that does the dead lift for reps. I think WSM will make sure he is not in the dead lift group. As max log in the final screams WR attempt.

Tom is odds on for the final. He has a poor show at WUS. But I believe he is better this comp than last. And the events favour him with a genuine chance to win 3 events (stones, keg toss, log depending on other finalists).

I follow most of the Brit boys. Hicks looks strong, Mark Felix seems to get younger and bigTerry seems to be getting stronger every week, he hit a deadlift PR last week. I’d be happy to see any of these boys make the final.

Hicks is an odd one. I should like him. But I find him flavourless. If he and Luke make the final then its definitely WR time for the log.
Terry does look good doesn’t he. I didn’t see the pr what was it?

Just checked and it was 425kg. It wasn’t actually a PR but his biggest in 5 years and it was smooth too deff has more in him.

At a grand old age as well. I like Terry. He is local to me. And comes over really down to earth.
Id like to see home make the final but for me he is in the old guard. If he was going to win WSM he would have.

What do you make of Shaw these days? Again old guard now or in with a chance. 4 titles, but the last was in 2016…

I like Shaw but I think he has missed his chance and is now just in the old guard
