World Cup 2010 Thread

Argentina has scored from an offside position.

Come on Sepp Blatter. video technology!

This World Cup is quickly becoming marred by poor officiating and the lack of some sort of replay/review system.

Tevez was miles offside, and it’s a travesty that nothing can be done to correct the situation.

There are so many questions that need answering concerning England:

  1. Why was Emile Heskey on the team? At best he’s an average player when he’s in shape, and now he obviously isn’t.

  2. Why was Theo Walcott not on the team?

  3. Why does Capello insist on using both Lampard and Gerrard? They’re both excellent players, but it’s obvious that they’ll never learn to cooperate.

  4. What the hell has happened to Rooney?

  5. Why not try Crouch when Rooney fails to deliver again and again?

  6. Why use Green in the opening match? He has the worst statistics of all three keepers, and he has the least amount of experience.

  7. Why use Barry in a defensive role?

  8. Why did they all seem so fucking nervous? They should be used to this kind of pressure.

Conclusion: Get rid of Capello. The man is obviously incompetent.

I’ve never understood this. The players are shit and don’t perform, blame the coach.

That’s been the SA teams mentality for years, they’re still just as hopeless.

It’s looking more and more like a Germany vs Argentina final.

Sweet!

Argentina v Germany final is impossible…if Argentina wins today they are playing in the next round.

When players who are normally excellent suddenly don’t perform, something is obviously wrong with how the team is composed. I know all these players from the premier league. I know how they work, and given their normal roles. There is no logic to what we have seen. When they struggle with nerves as well, the coach must be doing something wrong. He’s not supporting them like he should. It’s Capello’s job to come up with a team pick and the tactics that nurture cooperation, and it’s also his job to build team spirit and confidence. He has done neither.

so capello’s gonna be the richest guy on the dole?

Then I want a Brazil x Argentina final with Brazil winning by “The Hand of Justice.”

haha that would be soo awesome, a South American final.

O my God.

What a brilliant goal by Tevez.

Quality goals in this game!

That Tevez goal was sick, I was like “wow”.

I really hope Argentina beat Germany. At this point they’re both strong, it’s going to be a war.

I think Germany was only strong today relative to England being so weak.
I think Argentina has the potential to really smash Germany but I could be wrong.

Regardless, I think this “young German team” is only really going to be tested now.
Champions shine the most when it matters.

Do or die.

Capello’s not resigning. If I were making 10 mil a year, I wouldn’t resign either.

didnt Capello get praise for the qualifying run, when the english team did well and looked good. Good when they’re winning and bad when they’re not, hmmm. Among the comments i heard were that they played like a bunch of individuals not a team and that the players are overated - without the support they get in the UK league from mostly foreign players they can’t get to the standard needed. Maybe the problem is deeper. Didn’t England do well under an english coach back in 86/90 though, manybe there’s a lesson there. A longer term guiding hand to build a team. I’d like to see them do well again, its the birthplace of the sport after all

Argentina look likely and Brazil always seem to know ow to get far too. South America’s year maybe.

He is damn fun to watch, although he did seem to struggle the slightest bit today when he was triple teamed by Mexico. It will be interesting to see what Germany does against him.

I cannot wait to watch Argentina and Germany battle it out, that will be a dream match up. My German blood will be boiling. I am very pleased to see that Podolski, Mueller, and Ozil have reached top form.
