Rooney looks terrible. He should have joined Ronaldinho and just stayed home, because he has provided England with nothing, not even a spark of brilliance.
Maybe he’s to tired from filming all those Nike commercials…
In my opinion he did most of the work on their attack, he passed it and created opportunities when Lampard/gerrard should of been doing that for him.
Lampard/gerrard just fucking shot it aimlessley every time they got it. Terrible.
He can only score if his midfield creates chances for them. Any striker would of looked awful backed up by that piss poor england team.
I guess I just disagree with this straight up. For someone who has been one of the most talked about and most hyped players coming into this cup, he simply didn’t bring the magic. This is the biggest stage in the world, and Rooney has long since been hailed as the jewel of English soccer. He did nothing in this cup, and was mostly an afterthought.
I know it can’t be placed solely on his shoulders, as midfield play does factor in, but for someone who has had his face plastered in ads and TV campaigns, including the Nike clip where he is dominating Federer in table tennis, he simply fell far short of the hype.
The best players make things happen on their own, they elevate their level of play when it matters most, and they inspire their teams to win. Rooney did none of that.
Personally, I think Rooney has now slipped a rung below elite, and will have to prove that he belongs in the same sentence as Messi, David Villa, and Robinho among others.
The World Cup is every 4 years and only a few games for each team. Rooney has proved that he is world class during the season with United both in the Premier League and in the Champions League(week in week out for 7-8 months). I would agree with you if England would of had a great world cup and Rooney would have played shite but the whole team was a disgrace
