Did those of you suggesting Argentina will win actually watch their qualifying? It was far from impressive, Maradona doesn’t seem to understand how to balance a team and Messi rarely gets the same kind of support that he enjoys at Barca.

I am picking Argentina as previously noted, but I am in complete agreement with you. I think it is absurd that Maradona is still coaching this team. He was one of the best ever to play the game, but he has shown that those skill have not translated into coaching ability.

He seems more interested in fueling his ego with publicity moves than actually coaching or planning for games.

I just hope Messi, who is the best in the game right now hands down, can overcome the terrible coach that they have at the helm.[/quote]
Messi the best in the game right now? I disagree completely.

Who’s better then hotshot?

Don’t get me wrong Messi is a great player when it comes to scoring BUT that’s about it. The reason why he stands out so much is because he plays with players such as Xavi. Have you seen Xavi play for Barca? Everything goes through him on that team and his passing accuracy is amazing. Now mix someone like him(Xavi) with a great striker(Messi) and you get a lot of goals. And of course Messi gets all the credit because he’s the one who scores the goals and goals are what count. Also if you notice, when Barcelona’s midfield is shut down or at least Xavi is, Messi doesn’t do shit the whole game. Same thing when he plays for Argentina, he is shite for them.

On the Other hand, THAT BOY RONALDO MADE ENGLAND LOOK SHITE!

He scored 45 goals in Spanish and European football. I think he’s one of only 3 players to manage that feat.

I hear what you’re saying about Xavi however Messis unreal goal haul, effectiveness and ability to excite seals it for me.

Xavi’s in his 30s as well. Messi is 22. Whats he going to be like in 5 years?

I didn’t say Xavi was better than Messi. They are different players anyways. I however think that Xavi is a big reason why Messi is able to score so much.

On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo is a more complete player than Messi. He scored 33 goals between the champions league and la liga this season and didn’t play for almost 10 weeks. Messi scored 42 which is amazing but then look at Ronaldo who scored 9 less but missed a chunk of the season and on top of that Ronaldo doesn’t have a Xavi giving him perfect passes all the time. He also plays for Real Madrid which is a joke at times. Also Ronaldo can score from different angels: Headers, free kicks, outside the box, inside the box etc.

So Messi only scores tap ins then?

We could chew the fat over this all night Ronaldo mate but the general consensus in world football is that Messi is the best player in the world right now

The only reason you’re happy about that is because you’re a hun cunt and it’s in your genes to think that way.

Messi scored 47 goals this year. And I agree Ronaldo’s a great player (although not so great in character) and he kept Madrid alive in the last few weeks of La Liga but Messi is out of this world. And I also agree some of Messi success comes from having great players behind him but I don’t see many other players here helping him:

Not what I said but he can’t score headers nor can he take free kicks. He’s good but he wouldn’t seem as good if it wasn’t for the team he plays for. Watch this World Cup how insignificant he’s going to be.

You were watching the Champions League Final against United? That was a great header. Also Ronaldo can also go AWOL on the big day while Messi usually steps up. Though I admit he was anonymous against Inter this year. Also its not like Ronaldo hasn’t been playing for great teams too.

Headers scored in Champions League Finals Messi 1 Ronaldo 0
Headers scored in La Liga Messi 3 Ronaldo 3
Height Messi 5’7" (1.69) Ronaldo 6’1" (1.86)

Where did you get that from? Even if it’s true why try to argue something that is obvious. Over the last 2-3 seasons Ronaldo has scored more headers than Messi. Also you said “finals” So I guess that goals against Chelsea in Moscow didn’t count for Ronaldo?

I don’t think our friend 'Ronaldo’7 deals in facts mate

Sounds like a deluded fanboy to me in all honesty

I agree with you to an extend BUT I still think when Ronaldo is on form he is more dangerous than Messi.

Ahh man why get personal? I’m just trying to have a discussion about football but if people are going to start name calling then forget it…

I’ll have to disagree, against Arsenal this year Messi was irresistible. Can you name a time against good opposition and in an important game Ronaldo has done that. Its one thing banging in four against the bottom feeders in the league quite another against one of the better sides in European football.

Forgot about moscow my bad. My facts come from the spanish newspaper As. But things in sport aren’t so obvious as they seem. And I forgot to specify this meant goals in La Liga in 2009-2010. So even though Ronaldo is 17 cm taller than Messi he scores as many headers as Messi. And Madrid attempted 1134 crosses this year compared to Barcelona’s 1058.

Ha I’m not namecalling. Just gently poking you in the ribs with a sharp stick.

Regardless your username renders your opinion on this subject null and void.

He also scored int he CL final against Chelsea. There’s a few more, trust me.
