Yeah, they were never behind, and the only goal the US scored was a penalty shot. Fall-behind-early-and-try-to-catch-up-later is perhaps not the best strategy.
England should be able to beat Germany tomorrow. A rested Klose is back, but Cacau is out, and Schweinsteiger (“pig-climber?” Really?) is a maybe.

I’ll take Uruguay over Ghana in that quarterfinal. In the rest of the round of 16, Holland should beat Slovakia, and Brazil should beat Chile, leading to one heck of a quarterfinal between Brazil and Holland.
Argentina should beat Mexico (although I’d love an upset there), leading to another classic matchup: Argentina vs. England. The Paraguay-Japan game is irrelevant, because the winner will be crushed in the quarterfinals by the winner of Spain-Portugal (I pick Spain).
Allowing my wishes to lead me on, I’ll take Holland over Brazil, and then over Uruguay in the semis. On the other side, I’m afraid Argentina will beat England, but (I hope) Spain will then beat Argentina, for a Holland-Spain final, won by Spain.
If my two moments of wishful thinking go awry, it will be Brazil-Argentina in the final, with Argentina winning. Of course, my dream final would be England-Holland, with England winning, but I think that’s a bridge too far.
That Green error now haunts England, because it cost them the group win, and set up the hardest possible route to the final: Germany, then Argentina, then Spain.
