Workout W/ Demanding Job

I just got a job that requires a lot of hours in the office and traveling. From what I hear during parts of the year I’ll be working 80 hours a week.

Does anybody else on this site have a demanding job such as this? How do you guys go about training when you are busy? How do you guys eat healthy on the road or when you have no access to healthy foods?

I figure to join a Gold’s Gym or the YMCA so I have gyms all over the country I can go to wherever I am at.I don’t want to lose all the hard work I put into my body.

80 hours. ouch. I’d do it before work to get it out of the way if possible. You’d have to pay me a lot to work that much.

I work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for a contractor overseas. I train during lunch because I hate waking up any earlier than I have to and after a 12 hour day, I just want to go relax. Now that works for me, what works for you might be something different. Find what works into your schedule. And I don’t do HIT, but I do try to keep lower volume workouts just because of the time advantage.

As far as food goes, I order protein over the internet and I’m pretty much left to the dining facility’s menu. They usually serve a couple of portions of meat.

A coworker says he treats it like prison. He works, eat, lifts, and sleeps. He’s 61 and jacked by the way. He reminds me of Zeus from the movie Friday.

Get into a routine and stick with it. You’ll get used to the long hours and they stop seeming long after a while.

I used to and I forced myself to workout. I always felt better after I did. Much more relaxed.

Dan John has written about the Work, Rest, Play, Pray module and how if you work hard you need to rest more to ballence it out. He’s got a lot of good articles for people in your situation. Read up on his stuff. His workouts are designed to give you the most bang for your buck I think.
