Workout Partners: Helpful or Hinderance?

My last real training partner was a 6’2 250 lb bona fide genetic freak (and also my brother in law). Retarded strength and incredible focus…when he was doing the type of training he wanted to do. Trying to get him to squat, deadlift or row was an exercise in frustration. Trying to get him to train consistently (or even more than once every 10 days) and eat the right things was useless. Tremendous waste of potential. I’m hoping I can get him to really focus this year, as I’m sure he’d do great things.

My current one is a longtime buddy who basically called me out of the blue and asked if I needed someone to get my back and forth from the gym, which was a godsend. He doesn’t even attempt to work with me, simply just drives me there, provides me with conversation and a spot when I need one, we grab something to eat after and that’s it til the next day.

I’ve tried many times to give him advice and motivation but he basically just brushes me off, which is a little frustrating. I know if I were driving someone back and forth to the gym I’d definitely want my money’s worth.

My girlfriend spots me… she puts most men to shame… She can squat 275 easy and when its leg press time that section of the gym gets pretty quiet:) all the 1/4 pressers look on in disbelief when she puts 600lbs knees to chest for reps… I couldnt ask for a better spotter… she lifts heavy then does her girly bicycling when Im done wit her… life is good
