I don’t see having a workout partner, except for asking someone to spot you on a bench press. How can you possibly customize your workout to your particular needs, when you do everything in tandem with somebody else? Unless you really have a problem with motivation, I don’t see much use for it.
Working out in groups is the best way to workout by far. you’ll work way harder (assuming that the people your working out with will get in your ear and motivate you)
When I started working out with my football team at school i got so much stronger and worked way harder…easy to do when you got a ripped 250 pound lineman in your ear!
i get 5-10% stronger when i lift with the right guy(s)
I don’t care for a spotter or workout partner anymore, because many guys don’t know how to spot or push me the way I like. If I am benching, I don’t want to see someone looking down on me, I don’t like my line of view interupted. I also don’t care for fucking around and wasting time. I know of one guy at my gym who can handle spotting the poundages I might use, and his motivation works. Other than that, I turn up my music and just hit it.
I had a really good workout partner when I started out.
I think workout partners are good when you start. Especially when things like depth in squats and not rounding the back in deadlift are hard to get. It’s good to have someone there to call you out on it.

The ideal training partner should understand your goals and intensity as well as you understand your own. Almost like a gym marriage.
There are two women I know that have trained together for a couple of years and I totally envy their partnership. They handle each other at meets and know how the other is feeling physically and mentally so they can push each other for their best performance.
It isn’t necessarily someone to work in every set with you or even train with you every day. It’s more of a long term thing.
I’m checking out a club tonight. I was invited by my chief competitor in my weight class. Now that would be a cool partnership.
I think I may break into some weird lesbionic love.
Gotta go…
fixed. ;)
You think you fixed it but that’s actually how I meant it so blow me ![]()
I miss my old workout buddy. Now all I hear is “I hate squatting”
never had a workout partner.
guess it would be cool if i had one who was motivated like me
but having less people around is less of a distraction for me to talk and joke.
id probaly want a training partner if i ever did PLing though, mainly cause i dont know much about it.
we are into slapping each other, and screaming etc etc.
i pretty much change my life up so i can train with my guys.
we rarely are doing the same thing on the same day but we watch each others sets, motivate and criticise. wouldnt want it any other way,

Help, you can’t get big and strong without big and strong guys. You need spots. but you need good workout partners.

Because no one need’s to customize that much. I train with a Westside style program. I change stuff in a basic template.

I’ve had a workout partner that was slightly less experienced than me and I lifted more than him. I guess he always felt the need to push himself to lift near my working weight. His drive and motivation to get stronger really rubbed off and we ended up pushing each other. Great work outs, lots of intensity, no bullshiting. We knew what the other was capable of and did nothing but made sure the other improved. Times changed and so have our schedules so we don’t get the time to lift together as much. I’ve had 2 other workout partners that I never really “clicked” with or just down right held me back. I had to cut them off.
Workout partners can help ALOT if both goals, personalities, drive and motivation all match up, but otherwise they can pull you down. Of course they’re always good for when you just need a spot during heavy lifting.
Yep

GTFO. Don’t even look at me. I will bite you!
I heart you.
But I disagree. The majority of “partners” I’ve had fit your description.
However, I’ve had TWO WOPS that were worth their weight in iron. This kid Antonio, “Tee Tha Beast”, was probably the best wop I ever had. Like stated earlier, her pushed my to push myself as he was always chasing me and I didn’t want him to catch up. He was as dedicated and motivated as I am.
Second best wop I ever had was the House. This guy was a monster and I was just beginning. If it wasn’t for him pushing me and mentoring me I wouldn’t know a lick and I’d be just some chump working on my bi’s and tri’s in the squat rack (nttawwt)(ok there is something wrong with that but I digress). I heart that man.
Moral of the story: Find the right wop and you’ll make great progress, find the wrong one and they’ll set you back. It’s an investment.
Hahaha! When you said find the right wop I thought you were using some Italian racial term, not workout our partner. i was thinking, why a guido, why not a strong Polack or German or someone else.

Scrate up. When I read, “However, I’ve had TWO WOPS that were worth their weight in iron.” I was like, this man is bold.
Back on topic. Now that my workouts tend to be a little shorter in duration, the little to no rest in between movements is much easier to accomplish w/o a training partner. When I lifted with my homey, we’d tend to have marathon workouts.
if you can find someone with your same goals and focus levels than its great, but if youre very intense and concentrated and your partner is always chattin ppl up, drop the bar on him. I personally workout alone no distractions no problems, when i need spots just ask someone most ppl are glad to help
