Wisey's Training Log - StrongEveryDay

How does 50 x 5 feel “tight”? Don’t even have to engage your muscles for that amount of weight.

Well, a few weeks ago it still felt unstable.

Now, it does not.

Day 19 EES:

Front Squat:

20x5
70x2

77.5x5
77.5x5 - 170.8lbs

Press:

20x5
40x3
50x1

55x5
55x5 - 121lbs

RDL:

70x5

100x5
110x5 - 242.5lbs

Chins:

107.5x2

107.5x5
107.5x5 - 237lbs

Pick and Hold Sandbag, static.
55kg x 40 seconds.

Notes:

  • Squat felt pretty good. Didn’t feel special, but it felt smooth and consistent and warmed up easy.
  • Press was good again. Also very consistent now.
  • RDL still felt like an empty bar. But that’s not a bad thing. Good stretching as always. Still no grip assistance needed either. Hand strength feels very good currently.
  • Chins are chins.
  • No pushing today, as ordinarily this is a rest day…but I wanted to Atleast squat today to try and mitigate the shit squats I always seem to have post rest days. Then just ended up going on with it and making it another EES day, essentially bring the program forward a day.
  • Still feeling great. Though I trained after meal 1 again (3 hours), confirming I do not like doing this. But had no real choice, couldn’t squeeze it in before lunch with the Wifey. Tomorrow I can, and weekends are a non issue…so will be a good direct comparison again.

Nice.

I was just having a go at you, not looking for an explanation. It’s all good.

That said, I know you have various issues you are dealing with that have you holding back…but I don’t really know much about what they are. What’s that all about? Feel free not to answer if it is too private.

Would improve it. :joy:

Not bovvered.

Had a back injury thing about 5 weeks ago. QL strain. Rocked me. Couldn’t actually walk for like 36 hours without looking 97 years old.

And shoulders and elbow got real achy also. And for whatever reason I lost a lot of stability in different lifts. It was on its way out before the injury. Maybe it led to it.

So reset everything as per physio’s recommendation. Been a great thing.

Day 20 EES:

20x5
70x2

85x5
95x3
105x2

Press:

20x5
40x3
50x1

55x5
60x3
62.5x2

RDL:

62.5x5

110x5
120x3
132.5x2

Chins:

107.5x2

107.5x5
107.5x3
107.5x2

Notes:

  • No extras today. After four days in a row of loading and carrying, a bit smokey.
  • Squats were great, though I was nearing the limit of my front rack position. Something to work a little more on.
  • Press was ok. A little dicky on the right elbow, last set felt great of course…
  • RDL was good as always. Stretchy. I’m walking these out, so they are starting to become a Carry :joy:.
  • Chins felt ROUGH. They were yesterday, too. The heavy singles take a toll with these. Can feel it in my scapula region also. Maybe why the front rack has been a bit tight last two sessions also. Something to consider moving forward. Though I like doing them, would I benefit more from something like a Row, instead. Today was last day of the second cycle so would be a good time to change it out. See how I feel tomorrow.

I was actually thinking you had issues going much further back in time, but perhaps I have misunderstood things.

Anyway, carry on with the good work and whatnot.

Ahh.

I have of course. A plethora of knee issues. And a couple of repeated back injuries on bench, both times on a second attempt in a comp .

Have also had both shoulders injected with cortisone to help repair bursitis.

Basically I’m an old oak tree, full of scar tissue.

Back injury on bench, that’s not one you hear about often (or at all).

But I hear you, I am a patchwork of ligaments and other tissues all just trying to make it through the day. Was told at 35 that I was showing signs of arthritis, and was formally diagnosed with a scary sounding thing called “spinal stenosis”. Plus my stupid fucking elbow.

Yeah it’s probably not common. My bench in yh garage sits a little higher than the comp benches. Probably 40-50mm in it. I used to bench with feet back, and a lot of arch. Arch was accentuated on the lower bench… basically arched more than my lumbar could clearly handle, or rather was adapted to.

Clever enough to do it twice.

To add, I’ve also got a minor scoliosis. Never been an issue though, unless it has. Lol

I figure none of us on here are ever actually injury free. More, we are either managing well, or not.

50x2

52.5x5
52.5x5

60x13m
70x13m
70x13m
70x13m
70x13m
60x13m

Notes:

  • Hot as hell here again today. And High humidity. Is there a worse combo in a moderate climate area? I was Dripping with sweat by the end of the warmup…then my glasses kept pooling sweat on the lenses from my brow :joy:. It was a fun session.
  • Squat were good. Everything warmed up instantly with any movement :joy:. Just a lighter one again today after a few harder days. Greasing that groove.
  • Press was ok. A little worn from the last couple days also. Second set felt great.
  • RDL’s were stretchy.
  • Left Chins out today as they are two most intense exercise I do and it’s feeling like it wants a rest day. So it got one.
  • The carries were awesome. Decided on shorter intervals, more of them, with heavier weight. The difference between 60 and 70kg each hand was quite a lot. Went from not really working, to really working. Heart rate peaked at 150bpm almost every set of 70. Good work. More impressive to me is how quickly it gets back to below 100 when I stop working. I kept it above 110 for the duration, so only rested until it hit 110, then went again, which wasn’t bloody long. Difficult, but worth it.
(Edited Heart rates…watch said differently. I was basically drunk straight after them when I wrote it out lol)

Day 22 EES.

Front Squat:

20x5
70x1

75x5
75x5

Press:

20x5
20x5
40x5
50x2

55x5
55x5

RDL:

70x5

100x5
100x5

Chinups:

106x2
106x5
106x5

Then went for some laps down the local Olympic pool. Terrible laps. :joy:. But it’s a start. Good to be back in the water, I’ve missed it I think. Only been two decades :joy::joy:

Notes:

  • everything was ok! Knees were a bit sore..but it wasnt tendon pain, just achey and no"squat" pain. They were hurting over night, just like the pain I used to get as a kid. Warming everything up, and they came good. I think it might have been more coming from muscular tightness.
  • the swim was random. I’ve been wanting to get back into the water for a long time, and today a mate was here training who had recently dove been in. So I said fuck it. Let’s go.

Started a blog that no one will read.

Influenced by several others that I follow. Unashamedly so. Actually activated back in 2015!!
But never published any of the articles.

Don’t read it. No one else will.

I would prefer if you were there to sell me a shredded summer body (I could sure use one). But I suppose I’ll keep reading anyway.
