I’m Corpulent.

But not THAT Corpulent. :joy:

It’s because of talk like this that Tonya Harding did what she did.

Tried making a Quick return to the Bar today…body all twisted up.

Bench was barely ok. Shoulders were tight, chest was tight etc. Got through the 2x5 with 92.5kg. but it wasn’t nice. And was enough to put me into a coughing fit :joy:. So the session became another walk with the dogs, followed by a bunch of mobility work for the shoulders and hips. Did a couple of 5’s with the empty SSB with long pauses in the bottom.

Will try again tomorrow.

Weren’t you just bragging about being my better on this exercise? I push this much during stops on the toilet.

Me too. Virus be viral’ing?

I…am back.

Bench:

20x10
60x5
80x3

92.5x5
97.5x5

SSB Squat:

22.5x5

75x5
85x5

Deadlift:

70x5
120x3

160x5
175x5

Pullups:

106.2x5
111.2x5

Loaded carry of the day:

Single Hand Farmers walk: 30kg x 50m each arm.
Farmers walk: 30kg Both hands x 80m x 2

Notes:

  • Back to feeling 100%. Huge walk with the doggo’s off leash yesterday, flared up my plantar fasciitis pretty crazy in my left foot…so rested it for the afternoon, always does the trick. Loving having the doggo’s out off leash this early in their lives…only 10 months old, and are controllable enough to hit a trail. It’s awesome. They don’t really find much interest off the track, so don’t get too far away. I just call them back every couple minutes, rewarding with a treat for the first 9-10 times, then trail it off to every few times.
  • Bench felt easy again, as it should.
  • Squats were a little Shakey, but back to normal by the end of the second set. Very easy.
  • Deadlifts felt like air, time to move that minimum up a bit
  • Pullups were ok, flying on first set so upped it a little bit. Still ok. Bodyweight was a bit lower again today.
  • The carries are too light now I think. Looking at ways to safely strap another 5kg to the bells’. Maybe 10kg. Using dumbbells isn’t really feasible…worth another try though. Really need farmers handles at this point so I can get some Really heavy strength focused days in.

Fin.

I’m so glad to hear you are feeling better.

Thanks. Nose is still a bit of a mess, but I think it’s just an echo at this point.

These loaded carries. Clearly have you working hard…clearly make you better/stronger at them.

But they Truly add zero fatigue I’m finding. No sign at all of it today…even having completely more volume than normal with them.

Weird.

Day 12 EES:

Bench:

20x10
70x8

95x5
100x5

SSB Squat:

22.5x5

75x5
95x5

Deadlift:

70x5
120x3

160x5
175x5 PB here. I’ll explain why below.

Pullups: Bodyweight in my gear today = 106.3

111.3x5
111.3x5

Loaded carry of the day:

Managed to load the dumbbells in a way that didn’t get caught on my skinny legs…
46kg each hand. 2x20m.

Notes:

  • Bench felt Great. Easier than yesterday. Nice to be making 100kg feel like that.
  • Squats felt good also. Properly solid now with 95kg. Zero let up in technique. I can move the bottom weight up a little bit I think. Though I don’t need to.
  • deadlifts…well, that 175x5 was a PB because every rep was competes using a double overhand normal grip. Huge PB. I’ve done a very difficult sloppy triple in the past, but this was a solid 5 reps. Was the maximum of my grip on the last. Interesting. I have to put it down to the carries. I tried moving 170 double overhand a few weeks ago and I couldn’t hold it long enough to lock out.
  • Pullups were fine also. Maybe a little too hard on second set, but I wanted it. 5kg over bodyweight at that moment.
  • Those Carries…yeah. Realizes I could just pad out the weights on the dumbbells using a regular plastic barbell clip. Padded them out about 50mm, and with two pairs of 5kg plates loaded first, with the 10kg on the outside, I could comfortably carry 46kg. Grip was dying by the end of the second lap…but I can swap those tens for some 20’s or 25’s and really load them up I think and use straps to walk them. That would make them 76kg each, might fit another 5kg each side too. So plenty of scope for even more variation. 12 carries in and I’m yet to replicate a workout. If my daughter is a round tomorrow afternoon, I want to use her as a 41kg human weight vest :joy:, and carry her and the 30kg KB’s all at once…if not, more sandbag huggin’, but for a longer distance, should be stronger now to pull that off. Once I’m taking that bag for a 30-40m walk at a time, I’ll add 10kg more sand.
  • Feeling…strong all over, without even trying.

Fin.

That’s awesome! My boys are both lifting too. I’m so proud to see the progress. And it’s super fun to talk about lifting and PRs with them.

I cant think of any other hobbies (based at home) that are better to share with family!

I’m trying to influence my family more, without being forceful! My wife is quite the natural squatter, but everytime she does a squat workout, she goes wild, and cant walk for a solid week and is put off LOL. She can squat 80kg for 5 reps on any given day…i find it frustrating she i not super keen on the whole strength training ideal, as she probably has the potential to squat something like 150kg in 12 months, lol. Standard short femur, long torso abilities. But she’s also one hell of a swimmer. Never seems to lose any swimming fitness, come summer, its like she never got out of the water.

Daughter has that too…Never practices, just plays in the pool, visits the local lap pool maybre 4x in a year with some of her friends when they are practicing for the school swimming carnival…and is almost twice as fast as them without even trying. Quite a proud thing to watch, but also again frustrating LOL. The other dads have difficultly watching it unfold, which i also enjoy, honestly thier girls are pretty bad swimmers haha. One of them timed her lap this year, and said it was quick enough for first place the previous year. Crazy (but who takes notice of that stuff!). Cannot get her to even entertain swim squad training, and has never participated in the carnival, lol. Her mum was the same when young - you have it, or you do not. I competed in everything at school…except the swimming carnival LOL, as i was terrible in the water - I still dont float well.

They do enjoy very long walks with the dogs, hitting the beach, and attending the adventure park here in summer. I’ll take it.

Almost time to train myself…Chomping at the bit!

Wow! I’m not really that naturally talented at anything. I never was much a of a sport person, but I do love lifting. My boys like to lift but they are runners first. My husband does ultra marathons. He finished his first 100 mile this year. He is 51 and did it in less than 29 hours. My oldest son paced him for 20 miles. My oldest is an impressive runner. He had a 4:35 1600 meter last year as a junior. My youngest is just getting started. Who knows how fast he will end up being. I’m so very proud of them all. I love when we go on vacation and we all hike together. My boys will talk to me more on the trail than they do for the rest of the year .

With the loaded carry maybe it is time to look on marketplace and find yourself some farmers handles. They are usually not that expensive and you could progress over a very long time before you top out the the weight. If you like pain and wanted something that takes up less space then get some Dinnie handles with loading pins.

Just made an offer on a pair on marketplace :joy:. Same suburb too…
