Windham AR-15 CDI

Just went to Wal-Mart and, on a whim, just bought a Windham AR-15 CDI for my Defender 90 gun rack, just to piss off visiting liberals.

Put an EO Tech holographic sight on it. Nailing paper plates at 75 yards.

The wind is blowing like hell here (and it’s cold and snowy), but I popped off 500 rounds in my back yard.

Here’s a review, not me, in the video.

May get some tannerite tagets out of the garage and go full redneck in a moment.

For those that don’t know, Windham is made by the old Bushmaster folks after their non-competes ran out. It’s really, really nice out of the box. Mostly Magpul components. Easily superior to what Uncle Same issued me.

How much was it?

$1300. I believe list is $1600.

I had a cougar snifing around the barn the last couple days. May be making myself a rug.

Nobody and no thing messes with my horses.

TTR: I’ve got a question for you, if someone were anticipating an AWB that grandfathered existing weapons, but made their transfer illegal, and had $5k to spend, what would you buy?

FN Herstal 20 + 1 Round 308 Win. w/20" Heavy Fluted Barrel

This is actually my “go to” weapon, as it is essentially what I used in Afganistan. The .308 is the most common hunting round, so I doubt it will be banned.

Any given AR-15. This Windham is great. It’s better than my Rock River.

Ruger SR-22, which is absurdly considered an assault rifle, even though it is a .22.

Any of these are good investments, IMHO.

I’d buy a lot of magazines for all of them.

The other thing you can do is what I did during the “ban” days, which is buy “80% kits” and just built ARs. It’s like home-brew booze. You can build almost anything for personal use – with the added advantage of no serial numbers or records of purchase.

308 or 223 ?

It’s a 5.56 that can shoot .223.

But if the questions is, “do I prefer the .308 (or, rather 7.62x51mm)” — yes.

This is just something I bought on a whim. The fit and finish were just very impressive and a well-made weapon.

I like the way you think sir.

Thanks for the list, although I’m a little disappointed. No Steyr AUG, no FN SCAR, lol…

Is there a particular AR 15 lower that you like, I’m considering stocking up.

I recently picked up a Sig M400.
Chrome lined barrel with 1 in 7 rifling.
Picked up 10 Magpul 30 AR window mags.
Love it so far.

so jelly. I start a new job next month hoping to get my hands on one JUST BECAUSE.

I am holding out for the 308

Good thing you could still get one. Here are a couple of text message copies from my brother to me:

Walmart and dicks stopped selling semi auto rifles, and cheaperthandirt stopped all online sales of guns, and doubled the price of 30rd mags for AR’s. Disgusting.

Cheaper than dirt was one of the best companies around for firearms related stuff. I’ll never shop there. I’m watching a liveleak video on how FUCKED up UK tv licensing laws are, and a search warrant has been issued because someone didn’t pay the tax for watching normal ass tv. And they are trying to prove that the dude was actually watching the tv.

Here’s what he picked up just before all this crap:

Wal-Mart and CTD reversed themselves. I got an email from CTD saying that they are staying in the Biz.

I think SOME Wal-marts in the various commie-controlled areas are caving, but not ones in normal parts of the country.

A Windham AR-10 (or whatever they would call it)? Or just a .308 in general?

I am not a fan of the AR-10 variations. The .308 has two strengths — (1) knock down power and doubling as a hunting round and (2) the ability to reach out and touch someone.

The armalite platform is great for #1, but it’s just not a super-accurate set up compared to an FNAR or any of the hunting-rifle based platforms — long story short the round is not held 100% true every time in AR setups, so it’s just not quite as accurate.

(Note the ABOVE IS A GENEALITY. There are exceptions with match-type weapons. DPMS has one for example.)

No need to get exotic. Indeed, when thinking long term, thing VW bug, not Porsche.

Any of the quality lowers are fine. I have a Magpul lower that AR-15.com put out that I will eventually put on a weapon.

Thanks for letting me know that. He’s in Texas, of all places.

My daughter was/is (now reserves) a combat medic. She was issued a bullpup that she initially thought was the coolest thing ever.

She not a fan – smoke and sparks in the eyes.
