Looks have a lot to do with genetics. I’ve also seen guys pull 600+ that look like completely normal guys. Deadlift #s as @flipcollar has said are not a good indicator.
I actually think bench is not a terrible indicator. It might be though that the guys who are naturally wide excel at it, and being wide will make you look like you lift. I guess I haven’t yet seen a 500 lb bencher who doesn’t look like they lift yet.
I’ve surpassed the first two standards here and am a kilo shy of the deadlift number, and in normal, non-douchey clothes, people just think I’m genetically bulky. Shirtless or in something “athletic” fit, most people make the assumption I lift.
This thread was a complete fucking schmerschmortion, but the discussion from knowledgeable people on here was useful and interesting to read through.
The dude has won multiple world championships (So now I’m practically giving away his identity lol), so I don’t really feel sorry for him haha. I’d trade places with him in a heartbeat. He’s a badass dude. Athletic as hell too, he can jump through the roof.
His legs do look like he lifts. He doesn’t have small legs. But yea, other than that not really. The first time I saw him at a big show, I didn’t know who he was, and I definitely made him look small. I thought he wasn’t gonna be competitive, and he kicked some serious ass.
