Why the mantra "get stronger to get bigger" is bad advice and how strength training infiltrated bodybuilding

That’s why I find myself perplex…

The only other thing I can think of is that he no longer resembles what he did 13 years ago .

I would like to believe this is not true.

Since bodybuilding started expanding the number of divisions to be contested, I had found it not uncommon to have a division with only one or two contestants.

When I started there was just a bodybuilding contest where everyone competed against everyone entered.

Ah, but with more divisions, more people have a chance of bringing home a trophy, and that means they’ll compete again, which ultimately leads to more money for the promoters

I mean isnt thats why the NPC came up with physique division ?

We won’t even bring up Powerlifting .

But as a consequence, the height and weight divisions made judging for Best body parts and Most Muscular much more difficult to do.

To be honest, I hadn’t even thought about that. I didn’t compete before this century, so best body parts weren’t a thing in any of the federations I was active in.

All I had to worry about was my weight, and making sure I beat the heavier class winnerfor the overall

As a competitor, whether a contestant or spectator, I thought the Best body parts were the most interesting part of the contest.

I have my extremely biased opinion for the addition of the Physique division.

This thread has made a very entertaining read while stuck in a boring work workshop. Very amusing.

Was scrolling during an online meeting (people say working from home isn’t productive but I got to scroll and not pay attention instead of just regular not paying attention, that’s extra productive in my book), saw this meme and felt like it fits in this thread.

So yea I did this, that makes me generous now.

Reminds me of this

I will say, as far as megathreads go, I still miss the “bearmode” kid. That was at least a fun topic to discuss.

And what’s funny about this one was, it was the dudes offenses against philosophy, rather than physical training, that I found the most odorous.

20 rep sets do not have to be taken till failure for hypertrophy. A person can do 20 rep sets everyday using progression and consistently gain and never go to failure.

A 20rep max squat is a whole body hypertrophy movement, do them and your lungs grow along with everything else they aren’t necessarily the best for quad focus but they still make legs grow which is still hypertrophy.

OP means well. Take an Olympic lifter that starts early in life and is gifted, they usually develop size and leanness most bodybuilders would aspire. This won’t work for most of us who start late and will never clean and jerk 300#. Drilling 185 and 225 won’t cut it.

As long as the distance runner has run 26.2 miles in one shot (definition of a marathon), then yes, he can call himself a marathon runner.
