someone mentioned bathing in female goats blood in another thread. I think I’ll add that in next time I hit a strength plateau.

Yeah polo. Oleena started a thread about this shit. that makes it factual. didnt you know?
Some of these reasons almost make me want to go from fitness girl to powerlifter girl.
nanasarieh, 295 is totally awesome!!
I am new here and wanted to chip in. I’ve been lifting heavy since my mid 20’s and now I am 40. Why do I keep doing it? Besides feeling strong and powerful, lifting heavy has ‘rescued’ me at different points in my life. I’ve lost my body 4 times. 3 times to being pregnant and last time to a brain surgery. Each of those times my body has endured a blow. After healing sufficiently I go back to my heavy lifting and my body has always come back to me stronger than ever. Here’s to heavy lifting!
Oh wow! I found a forum where people like to eat. I’ve been reading figureathlete for some time. I love heavy lifting, but those diets are pretty extreme in my book. I try to eat mostly fruits and veggies, but love the occasional pizza!
I love how empowering lifting makes me feel.
And yes, I love how amazingly strong my legs feel especially.
I love how, at dance class, when the other girls half my age are wobbling because their legs are giving out, I don’t even feel an effort.
I love how, after being warned how heavy a bag is at the store, I pick it up with one hand and can say “that’s not heavy.”
I love telling people how much I can squat and deadlift. Not you guys, people I know. Good lord, 295, how long and how often do you lift to be able to pick up 295 pounds! Seriously. And what program do you follow?
I love how one of the girls in my dance class confidently proclaimed herself the oldest in our group, and was amazed when I told her I was 50.
I love redefining 50!
Strongmom - if that avatar is current, that’s amazing considering what your body has been through.
Nancy - you deadlift 295 at 50? Wow. OK, that gives me another 8 years to add 60lbs to mine. Nice going.
Nah, not me. I was referring to nanasarieh’s post. I only deadlift 135. It impresses most of my friends and family, even if it is puny on this forum.

Thanks Cal Jones. That picture was taken May this year, one year post surgery. I am glad to be alive and strong. I was browsing through the FA forum for a few months with half-assed interest. I just found the Powerful Women forum and I am psyched about it! There are some beasty women here, yeah!!!
…because it makes me feel like I’m better than pretty much everybody ![]()
Call me shallow/unempathetic/a bitch, whatever, it’s the truth. I’m stronger physically, stronger willed mentally, and look better than 99%+ of the female population…and that makes me look down my nose at jill average.
Oh wait, I think I was like that before I started lifting, but I digress…
I like that I don’t look like a typical ‘mom’.
I like that people say I don’t look 35.
I like that I was able to prove that under 225lbs there was a set of abs and that I had the nads to strut it on stage in a bedazzled bikini.
I like when I catch people looking when I’m lifting.
I like zoning out in my own little muscle world.
I like being responsible for nobody but myself for an hour or so.
I like when my son rubs my arm and says he can see my muscles when we’re just sitting together. He’s 7.
I like that I have inspired others to be fit!
Nibbler- it sounds like you have an amazing story!
I like to tell people it’s my anger management therapy…and watch them slowly back away.
