Why I Like It

This post is exactly why I am so happy I finally decided to become an active member!

Of course I want to look good naked, but when I am dripping with sweat and crawling up the stairs after a workout, that is the last thing on my mind.

I agree with Cbear, I love not having to worry about what I eat. I don’t gorge myself and I haven’t had fast food in years, but I like that I don’t have to freak out if I come home from a night of heavy drinking and want a grilled cheese sandwich. That is what makes life worth living as far as I am concerned!

all about being macho! i really do enjoy setting up far more plates vs a dude in stuff.well in squats at leaast

This.

Of course I compete and that feeds an addiction I have for competition.

However, for me it starts with the obsessive desire for self-punishment and to see just how much I can make myself endure and how hard I can push. It doesn’t always turn out well but Lucy’s phrase about feeding the wolf inside describes it perfectly for me.[/quote]

The guys use the metaphor of being ready for the wolf that comes to the door, but I think the ones you’ve already let in the door have the deadlier fangs.

I don’t mean to be melodramatic, but, for me, that’s how it is. Occasionally it’s fun, occasionally it’s a chore, occasionally it’s a source of pride. Usually it’s a tool for survival.

oops this one was for chicks!! damn

Kidding. It’s not just for chicks.

It’s just tucked away in Powerful Women so chicks will be the dominant posters rather than us icky men

I like it because it’s my therapy. It reduces stress and frustration. I measure my determination, mental and physical strength and constantly attempt to improve and build upon it.

I like it because 200lbs is 200lbs. Plus chicks like CBear, Court and Ouro are into and they’re friggin HOOOOOT…

unless you’re using rubber plates. then who knows how much 200lbs actually is.

I agree with this. When I have a bad day and am pissed off and frustrated at the world, I go and punish myself by lifting heavy shit. When I have a good day and am in a glorious mood, I go and reward myself by lifting heavy shit. Both lead to the same result… a less stressed, happier, stronger (mentally and physically), more confident Court.

Plus I do it cuz Polo thinks I’m hot.

yeauh

I like it because being strong is cool.
When I got my new 40" TV delivered 2 weeks ago, I liked that I could pick it up and set it up without trying to find a neighbour to come help.
I like that when some rude bastard walks into me, they come out of it a lot worse than I do.
I like that every gym I’ve trained at, I’ve had the respect of the gym staff and serious lifters there.
I like demonstrating to women that having a pussy doesn’t mean you have to lift like one.
And finally, for the sake of my vanity, I like that no one ever believes I’m 42.

I’m with you on the vanity. I like that no one believes I’m 44 and that our new receptionist at work can figure out how I have a teenager… I must have started in my teens. Yay!

Yep, the fountain of youth comes in the shape of a barbell. A big one. Funny, that.

I love that the results are so immediate–(almost) every time I lift, the weight goes up.
I like setting goals, and reaching them.
I like feeling my muscles flex and contract and work.
I like the endorphin rush after a good training session.
I like the way I feel after leg night
I like the way I feel when I walk and I can feel those new muscles gliding around under my clothes.
I like that my post-surgical knee is stronger than it has ever been, and that I have not lost one whit of range of motion, mostly thanks to lifting.
I like working up a good sweat, and feeling like I ACCOMPLISHED something.
I like that my body is getting firmer and stronger, and that I can see the results in the mirror.
I like that other people are seeing the results, not just me, and noticing.

I love working in the gym with my husband, and learning from his experience. I especially love that through our work in the gym, we are becoming more and more a team.
I love being praised for working hard and learning.
I love watching my husband in the gym, making the heavy weights seem so effortless, and planning for the day when I can lift something that is TRULY heavy.
I guess that is all I can say without this needing to be moved to SAMA, hehehehe…

Oh, one more thing.

I also kinda love the fact that the dress I ordered for my wedding, based on my measurements from a few months ago, BARELY fit across my chest, because I have put on several inches of muscle in my back and chest. I had to let out all the darts to get it to fit…I had not gained any weight at all, so I figured the old measurements would work. ha! I guess I am not the typical bride. Most would get all anxious and upset that the dress was too snug across the chest. I was just excited that the muscle mass was noticable! Also explains why I had to go and buy new bras!

I usually lurk, but the past week people have decided to make it very known to me what their feelings are about what I do…and why I should stop. So…i’ve been thinking these up all week!!

  1. I love the scars on my shins from deadlifts
  2. I love the blisters on my hands
  3. I love not being able to get out of bed because i’m too sore in the morning.
  4. I love to eat…I would eat 10x a day if it was possible
  5. I love watching the giant beads of sweat fall from my face to the floor.
  6. I love being the only girl on my co-ed polo team that needs to have a male partner because the other girls can’t keep up (quite frankly, neither can he).
  7. I love that I need a spotter when I squat (I love that he is super hot as well!!)
  8. I love the looks on peoples faces when I lift
  9. I love seeing the numbers go up
  10. I love that no matter how strong I get, I can always be stronger…1 more lb…1 more rep…the battle is never over.
  11. I love feeling like a badass…and it’s hard to be bad-ass on an elliptical machine
  12. I love the feeling after a workout when everything just clicked…each set was 100%, each movement was 100% and nothing was left in the tank.
  13. I love being self-sufficient. I can move my own shit, carry my own crap, and I am not limited by strength.

Anyway, this list goes on…

Bravo! This is what I feel everyday because of lifting too!

I don’t believe you (or you ouroboro). You guys look awesome.

Lifting placates the masochistic streak in me. There is something about pushing harder than you thought you could and still coming back for more.
