Why I Don't Ride A Motorcycle...

i agree completely. when ever a “friend” of mine drives like an idiot i feel like knocking the dickhead out.

i’ve heard the chance of crashing on a motor bike is 19 times higher then in a car, and you’re 30 times more likely to do die. they are extremely dangerous, but primarily for the driver, so it is your choice. i’d LOVE to own a motorbike, but thats an addiction i don’t want to start…

No shit, I didn’t enjoy that at all. I wish I would have read your post before I hit the link.

Addiction is a good term.

A half hour ago, my friend came over with his older brother’s ZO6 Corvette. I went for a 10 minute ride and all I wanted was to go FASTER. I’m glad I sold my motorcycle actually. I really think I’d have gotten in over my head before too long.

That of course doesn’t man that bikes are inherantly unsafe. Just that I probably would be.

I’ll just keep my 4x4 addiction fed… it’s much safer (and slower).

How the hell did his shoes stay on?

On a more serious note, thats too bad. No one deserves that shit.

There was actually a video circling the web a year ago of a pedestrian getting taken out by a swerving car that ran through a crosswalk. I suppose the OP would claim to never walk after that.

This was horrible and I just don’t see the point in spreading these pics over the internet for the purpose of entertainment.

I’m still convinced that vid was faked somehow. Something about it just seemed out of place.

You don’t ride because you are a pussy.

Gah dam, edit that post with something along the lines of…

About riding motorcycles etc…

There’s a saying that goes like this; It’s not the amount of days in one’s life, it’s the amount of life in one’s days.

People worry about guns in the home soooooooooo much more than they worry about homes with pools yet the percentage of accidental deaths caused by pools outweighs accidental death by guns by like 1,000:1.

People worry about the wrong things (like motorcycle riding) in my opinion.

If some people didn’t die spectacularly, death would would just be another boring daily event…

Some may be entertained by it, but I think all except the truly violent would probably be influenced positively by these pictures to not do something stupid or violent. At least I am.

I’ve been riding for a few years and I rarely go out during the day and I avoid congested areas at all costs. If I ever lived in a more rural area I’d be less afraid of going out, but as it stands now the only time I’m riding is if I’m going to a track or if it’s late on a weekday.

For many years motorcycles were my sole transportation. They have a lot to recommend them, especially in congested areas - if you can split lanes. Besides which, they are beautiful and exciting.

However, if you want to have a pleasant time at it you need to master two important skills: reading minds, and playing the Invisible Man.

After that title i thought i was going to read your account of being castrated as a child something like getting your testicles bit off by a pitbull… Something about losing your balls.

You actually aren’t off about that at all even though I would name those skills differently. If you are the type who is good at anticipating what others will do next as well as learning how to stay ahead of traffic and MAKE yourself visible, you would do well on a motorcycle.

If, however, you can’t even drive and talk on the phone at the same time (like most people seem to have a problem with), bike riding is not for you.

Yes, see and be seen. What I remember is being on the flasher a hell of a lot during daytime. Nowadays they have headlights wired to stay on all the time, I’m not sure that garners quite so much attention. Avoiding blind spots is another necessary art.

But, whatever pains you’ve taken to be seen, you may as well assume it hasn’t happened. Just be where they aren’t.

Believe me, Prof, I was anything but entertained.

In 2001, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a study on motorcycle accidents and safety. Single vehicle motorcycle crashes accounted for about 45% (38,000) of all motorcyclist fatalities between 1975 and 1999.

The study identified some of the reasons for fatalities in single vehicle motorcycle crashes:

  • High blood alcohol levels are a major problem among motorcycle operators
  • Half of the fatalities are related to negotiating a curve prior to the crash
  • Almost two thirds of the fatalities were associated with speeding as an operator contributing factor in the crash
  • Almost 60 percent of motorcyclist fatalities occur at night
  • Almost one third of the fatally injured operators did not have a proper license

How many of these factors are within the control of the operator?

I think there is something undeniably tragic about the trafficking of pornographically violent images on the internet. A human life ended here and his discombobulated remains are now a delightful perversion for an entire world of twisted freaks to take delight in. Sites like rotten and ogrish do not deserve a place in this world. What sickens me more than the gruesomeness of this image is the millions who will gawk at it in morbid fascination.

I guess it’ll be a closed-casket funeral.
