Why Economic Regs Suck

Or Chancellor Kreisky that stated that nobody could deny him the right to be smarter today than he was yesterday.

Does he post all of his learning process on internet forums? Has he completely reversed his belief system in less than 2 years?

Then keep it up.

I disagree with some of these guys who think you’re stupid, but you are one mighty confused hombre.

I’m betting you’re pretty young and still taken by every profound sounding ideology you read, especially if it brings with it the coolness factor of being very unconventional and against the grain.

Well, then let me quote my old German teacher, Mrs Jones:

“If your head collides with a book and it sounds kind of hollow, are you sure it is always the book?”

Except for one or two drunken stupors, I try to read the book instead of bang it on my head.

Is that some kind of Euro-habit?
No, it is actually the habit of at least semi-articulate people to sometimes paint a mental image with words in order to make a point more succinctly than would otherwise be possible.

Had I known the more intriguing details of your history with books I might have found different words to make my point.

May I ask if your attempts to “read” those books have been finally crowned with success, or have you decided that “reading” is for Euro-trash, liberal poofters.

Who said there was more than one?

If I had to guess, I would say lifty is 30-35.

I tend to view the ability to change one’s mind so late in life as impressive, given that most people dissolve into stubborn closed minded followers who have long ago given up their ability to reason.

Changing one’s mind requires humility and recognition of the fact that you were once wrong.

It becomes silly when someone barks out their convictions of the hour with absolute confidence, only to change direction and bark out new ideas with the same confidence.

Nice try at the cuteness.

But you were the one whose teacher banged books on her head. Is that what passes for education in Euro-trash land?

What exactly is it that frog licking Euro-trash do with books?

You evidently can’t successfully read posts on an internet forum, so am I to believe you know what to do with a book?

You have more convincing to do if that is the case.

What is the fascination with my reading?
Gael wrote:

Wrong.

It’s not that I have changed my mind so much as I have learned a more correct theory. The reason why I was able to learn is because I am not closed minded when confronted with the possibility of truth. I work in a profession that requires this ability.

In my defense I spent my entire late twenties and early thirties closed up in a laboratory studying small things and didn’t have much time to spend reading economics or philosophy.
rainjack wrote:

The only reason I come here is for that exact reason. I need constant practice with written argument and this is the best place I have found to get instant feedback.

That is why I don’t think you haven’t learned anything on the internet. If that is true then you are a very closed minded individual. Every time you take in a stimuli it confronts you with the possibility of learning.

The problem with this example is that it illustrates why many people are in favor of regulation in the first place–we fear big corporations and what they are capable of accomplishing with their power and lobbies.

I know you’re a smart guy Lifticus, but I think you have this exactly wrong – big corporations couldn’t accomplish anything with their power and lobbies if there weren’t the governmental power to effect the things they were lobbying and campaigning for…

I think a blanket statement that regulation is bad is false. Ther are many example where regulation has helped–child labor, anti-trust, etc. It’s a question of who regulations are designed to help that needs to be addressed. I personally don’t trust big businesses to regulate them-selves.

lol, do you still stand by this?

I know, this guy is walking contradiction. First he watches Mad Max one too many times and doesn’t want any gov’t, now he’s talking about his non exsistant gov’t regulating big business.

So we are all resonsible for protecting ourselves from thugs and criminals, but we can’t make our own decisions on who we trade with. I guess you think we should turn all the police officers and military personnel in regulatory police and bureaucrats?
retraction - didn’t realize this was suck an old post.

You “don’t think I haven’t learned anything”? You do realize that is a double negative, and have just admitted that I have learned, don’t you?

I don’t post my learning curve on the internet, and I do not try to act like an expert on things I am not steadfastly sure of. You do, and instead of getting a pat on the butt for the effort, you should be ridiculed for being such a wishy washy little boy.

But I am sure if you were to read all of my posts, you would se where my thinking has changed over the last 5+ years.

What you won’t see is a 180 degree turn. Why? I did all that shit 20 years ago. It’s amazing how little your theories matter when you are trying to feed a family. The real world is a much better read than any philosopher.

I make no apologies for what I believe. I doubt that you, or any of the self-proclaimed thinkers out there would have survived my life for more than a few days.

And I think that is my biggest problem with you. You are all talk and no action. I hold nothing but disdain for those who would rather think about life than actually living. You are such a person.

Weren’t you the one who said you didn’t get it from the internet? I make no assumptions about things you haven’t said only things you have.

On the internet the only action there is is typing – which you seem to do a lot of yourself.

You make no sense whatsoever. I call you out on a double negative, and your reply is unintelligible crap.

I’m not surprised, though. Pretty much everything you write is unintelligible.

What on earth makes you so contemptuous? You come across as a very angry poster. If a person can lead a life of academic study that affords them plenty of time to ponder philosophical questions and they are happy for it, or achieve some sense of personal gratification, what on earth is wrong with that?

If you want to spend your time thinking about money, and that makes you happy, that’s OK too. But you do not at all come across as a happy man. You have high levels of hatred and anger toward many people, and you think your life is somehow harder than everyone else’s.

An unhappy man is more of a drain on the world than a misguided philosopher.

You would be wrong to make such an assumption. You make the mistake of confusing my intolerance of bullshit with hatred.

And yes. There are very few people who have traveled the road I have. I have been asked many times to write a book about my life - even to the point of being offered money for the rights - as it is one that proves the power of the human spirit.

I am not bragging nearly as much as you think. That would be your problem, not mine.

You said that you “hold nothing but disdain” for people like lifticus. Disdain, scorn, contempt, hatred – these are words for the same thing.

And when a few muslim women at Harvard requested a single gender gym hour, you wrote:

 • “fuck them, and their nun-hatted religion”

 • “How about we just ship their carbombing asses back to wherever the fuck they came from?”

If this is not hatred, nothing is.

How about you just go ahead and tell me that disagreeing with you is hatred?

Of course not. We all disagree with each other. I don’t agree with lifticus about much of anything. This isn’t the point that I was making and you know it. I have disagreed with many people. I have not seen many as angry as you who hold such high levels sheer unbridled scorn. It’s unreal.

You have a tendency to back down when confronted. You first said you hold disdain for people like Lifty. Now you say you have disdain for his bullshit – a decidedly softened version of your original words.

Similarly, you called the Muslim women “carbombing” which is obvious bullshit. Now you are backing down, saying they are “terrorist sympathizing,” and of course you have no justification for saying this either. Why do you say these things? You don’t think. You don’t reason. You just spew your hateful venom.

What am I backing down from? I can take any myriad of quotes from you out of context and concoct a wonderful story. I said what I said, and I am not changing a fucking thing about it.

If you wish to dissect my every word - I am sure you will come up with a lot better shit than what I have said to Lift, or the terrorist college women.

You don’t like my posting style, so you decide to judge me for it. You aren’t the first son of a bitch to do that, and I doubt you will be the last.

But just as with all of the others - I would have to give a flying fuck about what you say for it to actually mean something. I don’t.

I will still post the way I post, and I will consider it a small victory every time I irritate pathetic little busy bodies like you.

But feel free to waste more of your time going through my post history. I am sure the entire fucking forum is waiting with baited breath to see the fruit of your efforts.
