Shanghai is pretty awesome. I spent 2 weeks there about a year ago, and had the time of my life.
Almost as good as my favourite city: Taipei.

Virginia is awesome for young families.
A playground and free events a mile in any direction in central VA.
The playgrounds and roads are amazingly well maintained. Every year our county comes through the 30 or so public parks and puts new playthings in just to switch things up, even if they arenāt broken. The roads are redone any time thereās a crack. You can actually see your tax dollars at work.
Preschool is free. I make far too much to qualify for any aid, yet Monday-Friday my son gets bused in to a free public elementary school where school supplies and lunches are provided at no cost. Speech therapy and any other behavioral or developmental problems requiring outside assistance are covered by the county.
Housing is cheap. Iām in a 3 BR 2.5 Ba 2 floor townhouse with a backyard in the west end of Richmond in a great school system for $129,000.
I also have beaches one hour to the east, mountains one hour to the west, and a giant state park 30 minutes south. Then thereās Richmond, which is just an awesome city.
Holy crap. I think I want to move to VA. That sounds amazing.
Not that I like it, is just that itās home.
It is where my comfort zone is and the people around me know the real me.
Second account you forgot to log out of?
Central Texas here. Why? Because its freaking Texas!! Largest state in the lower 48, more coastline than Florida, we can still drive 85 mph in certain places, and we drive 80 everywhere else (legal or not), we have Tex-Mex, BBQ, and German, we still say Howdy and Yāall, we still wave at strangers on back roads, we have tiny little cowtowns and big cities. You know what the country song says āGod Blessed Texasā ![]()
I almost went to UVA
VA is beautiful. I just visited my Father who lives in the Shenandoah Valley and heās in a small town and it was awesome. Basically a modern day Mayberry. But if you get within a 100 miles of DC, traffic can be a nightmare as more people are commuting on weekends.
East Tennessee is the most beautiful place Iāve lived but jobs can be scarce and the level of education of some is very poor. Causes a lot of contrasts.
Really? I thought that was an out dated stereotype ![]()
Nope. Most of us say it, even in texts.
Edit: We also say, āover yonderā, and āIām a fixing toā and āI reckon or I reckon notā LOL
Didja? Iām not from the south but spend a good amount of time down south (early to mid 20s) - I say howdy and prefer yāall to the more stuffy and wordy āyou allā that is uttered in my parts. I actually prefer yinz to you all as well. Itās an efficiency thing
I prefer Southern vernacular and colloquialisms if Iām being honest.
Ditto
Being raised in San Diego, I recognize Howdy as the superior greeting.
2 syllables, so people actually hear it and donāt go "huh? when you say āHeyā and then you have that awkward exchange where you explain that you were greeting them and they explain that they were acknowledging, but not as formal as āHelloā. I use Howdy.
But āDudeā is the superior all purpose word.
Agreed.
Space Coast of Florida here (Melbourne).
Iām sensing an aversion to snowā¦
Thatās the most important one
What about property tax?
Snow without mountains would be terrible haha. My soon to be in-laws have a house in Melbourne beach and split their time between there and their park city house. They seem to love it there and are always out on the water fishing, SCUBA, SUPing etc.
It was effecting my physical and mental well being. Much of it was stop-and-go driving.
Melbourne Beach is usually where i take the family to go swimming.
Itās less touristy than some other nearby areas like Cocoa Beach.
I love it there.
