From what I have heard, the standards are not the way they used to be ten years ago. I do understand how the OP got to saying this sort of thing about pros’ abs.
I follow natural bodybuilding more than I do IFBB bodybuilding nowadays, simply because natural BB is what I am involved in have plans of competing in.
But when I first got exposed to bodybuilding, there were a lot of big guts out there. Who remembers Nasser’s enormous gut.
However, when I went to the NYC Pro in Manhattan this past summer, NO ONE had a big gut like that, except for that Russian dude with the odd name (can’t remember it) and that was more so because the guy had extremely developed obliques and abs.
Its also not just from GH as people have thought. The fat behind the abdominal wall has a lot of testosterone receptors which makes it more anabolic when on high doses of T. Anyway, no one wants to see bloated guts anymore, hence why the pros listed here on this thread don’t have them.
It’s not fat that has receptors for testosterone. Before there was a “Gh gut”, “roid gut” described the bloat of the intestinal wall some might see from anabolics.
The only thing that has changed is that every newbie has heard of GH before in the news so they think ANY TIME they see someone’s stomach not completely sucked in that this means they use GH in high amounts…which is false.
Some people simply have an abdominal wall that protrudes…period. That doesn’t mean anything other than that they were born that way.
People need to stop throwing crap diagnoses at everyone they see if they look anything different than what they see in GQ ads.

I could be wrong, but that is the explanation I read from Duchaine years ago. Not that he was right about everything, but to me, it made sense from what I know and my background.
I do agree that some people simply have an abdomen that is put together like that. I personally do not care about making Dxs as I respect all serious bodybuilders since I am one myself and certainly do not discredit the mass monsters that were and are elite bodybuilders, despite their thick abs.
Anyone going to the Team Universe in two weeks? I just got back from the Jones Beach USA (www.jonesbeachusa.com).

actually prof, theres some people with very symmetrical faces and structures. and yea generally its people like supermodels who have it since its one of the things people look for.
ive seen a couple random things on it, showing celeberties faces that are very symmetrical and i THINK i saw something highlighting how people find it more attractive.[/quote]
I saw something like that too. But symmetry still isn’t the norm. Symmetry happens but it is a hell lot rarer than asymmetry!

It would be very rare for someone to be TRULY symmetrical from top to bottom as far as their body. Imperceptible does not equal symmetrical. Just because it may take using a mirror to each side of the face or a ruler to notice it doesn’t erase the fact that they are asymmetrical.

My guess is that this comes from steroids. Seems like when people take massive amounts of steroids their abs change shape.

This has to be the most idiotic statement that has ever been processed in my brain. Umm, dude back in Arnold’s hayday they were taking gear. What the fuck do you expect dude?
Arnold was probably 220 in the picture, maybe? I dont know and Ruhl would get up to 330+ in the off season. I’m not a fan of the look but recently its made obvious to me. Its the steroids…Bullocks!

I think that I am very simmetrical, a lot more than those roided pros who will die when they are 40.

You are both obviously right… some peoples faces are more symmetrical, some peoples are less symmetrical. Noone is 100% perfect. Why does there have to be an argument about this? This guy’s face is asymmetrical

Androgen receptors on fat behind the ab wall? Kidding right?
But to answer the original question…
Some might say that abs at a super low BF with a significant amount of muscle looks weird because they aren’t used to seeing abs like that, but it’s nothing new. Look at some old vacuum poses from back in the day. You don’t see those every day either.
The reason you are being called retarded is because everyone around here HAS seen abs like that because it’s a bodybuilding forum… in fact, everyone around here is aspiring to have abs like that. Tantamount to “Brad Pitt in Fight Club” argument IMO. Why do we have to keep the BS going?

WHoah, I had no clue they had a Long Island based contest… and Dan Lurie? Wow, there’s a name you don;t hear much about anymore. How’d the competition go? I’ve personally been to a few small shows where the caliber of competitor is amazing, and some where I watched from the door way, then decided to save my money and walked out -lol
S
Androgen receptors and fat.
Yeah, they are there.
Stu,
This was more like a fun show, anyone who felt like it could enter.
However, there were some serious, experienced competitors that were in it, probably for the fun and practice of it. A few guys I recognized from Bev Francis Powerhouse were there.
There were some knockout, smoking hot bikini and figure contestants there. Glenda Basset was there.
Ken Jones guest posed. He looks great for a smaller, short pro. I always liked him even though he is not a mass monster.
There are some more LI contests in the fall. I will be at the Long Island Experience. PM me some time if you like or I will PM you. You are in Forest Hills, right? Do you work out at Platinum? I am at Powerhouse on Franny Lew right now in Whitestone, the house that roids TOOK DOWN! ![]()

id argue Dex Jackson is perfectly symmetrical head to toe. that man looks like the product of genetic engineering.
is it the norm? no. im sure people probaly used to be more symmetrical though. im guessing the human race has kinda been watered down though since survival of the fittest aint what it used to be.

I don’t think it was really an arguement. We were just talking about it.
the only “strange abs” i can think of is the guy who posts here Prisoner 22…and if i remember correctly he said that he got sugery when he was young and the doctor helped himself
to a peice a rib…that kind of causes his abs to look abit odd…but obviously its not very important since i beleive he just won a provincal show
