Who To Trust????

Why pay for it if you can get it for free.

The internet has a nearly endless supply of training information and porn.

So, if you have access to the internet, there’s no reason to spend a fucking dime on either.

Vive le internet!

This is actually a really good point. I have never paid for porn over the internet since I can beat off fast enough with the free samples they give you.
Unfortunately, some of the books, dvd’s and seminars do cover stuff that you can’t get on the net.
Thanks,

I want to throw out something that really needs to be added to this discussion…

There is a tendency to believe that NEGATIVE reviews and threads have more validity than POSITIVE ones.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

There are a couple of Authors and Coaches who post here (much less than in the past) that literally have groups of “haters” that seem to only come out from under their rocks to post when these Coaches post an article, write a Book or present at a Seminar.

They are abrasive, offer nothing but ridicule for those authors, and are the ones than come out “en masse” to smear the reputation of that Author, as often as they can, on various Internet Forums.

This ain’t “X-Files” stuff guys…it’s real…

So don’t think that a “negative” review and/or opinion is always a valid one.

In my experience, it’s often the LEAST valid…

This debate is well timed for me since I have been experiencing many of the feelings that some of the boards feel when they receive material that is less than what we have come to expect.

I recently received some material from a T Nation contributor that I felt was solid but unspectacular. This was not my beef with the material but rather the poor delivery and packaging - it came in a binder with the pages separate from the binder. The printing was often messy with page staining and many of the pages being severely creased as if they had been dragged through a cheap ink jet printer. And the layout of tables was something a 12 year could have done better.

Whilst this may seem to be minor it seems to be an example of quite a lazy attitude towards the consumer and to a degree I feel is a lack of respect for people who pay for your product.

I communicated these points to the author in the friendliest tone possible but got no response. As a result I would not recommend this authors products to anyone.

In amongst the hype on his site about how trainers can earn six figure salaries there is missing a vital piece of customer relations. A satisfied customer will tell 3 people a dissatisfied one will tell 10 and with the joy of the internet this number increases exponentially.

I agree that we need to avoid the knee jerk reaction that many have to authors. Just as we need to avoid dropping into one of the fan boy clubs.

However I would consider many of the opinions posted on this site to be quite valid even if they did appear negative. My experience has been that there are some clever experienced people out there who have something to say.

I have always been happy with the products I have gotten from John
Berardi, Martin Rooney, and Joe DeFranco. With that said, I have a complaint about the other strength coaches out there. I will keep this anonymous so it is not considered a flame and thereby deleted.

With all the cross promotion going on out there I no longer know who to trust. Some of the products myself and my friends have recieved recently have been sub par to say the best.
My buddy recently bought for a large sum of money, a book from one of these strength coaches with a “religious” title. The book was “hundreds of pages” long “filled” with quality information. Not!

The book had at least a hundred pages or so of worthless exercise descriptions. The worst part was how the book was stretched out. The margins were several inches out on each side, 3 or more inches in on each side. The book by rights should have been less that 100 pages.

There seems to be a coaching clique out there these days who all seem to follow the same pied piper of marketing. Their motto seems to be “Charge the crap out of people” and don’t care about the production quality or quantitiy of info while at the same time stating it is all about the “information”.

Some of these products seem to cost very little to produce, with poorly printed and binded books with poor photos and home video type production.
It pisses me off.
I would complain about their annoying amount of emails (seeming one every 3 days) anouncing some “new” product they have come up with. I won’t complain about that because if you ask them to take you off their list they are really good about doing that.

You don’t know whom to trust.

Not who.

Sorry, this shit drives me nuts.

Sorry, grammar cop, but ‘who’ is acceptable there now.

I hate the fitness books where they don’t just say “Do push ups” but they show you a picture. And the ‘up’ position is on page 48 and the ‘down’ position is on page 49. What a waste.
