Mach Meet 1615 No wraps 11 weeks out total
BW: 202
decided to start the week off with an in gym practice meet to see where my numbers are at before I leave for europe on sunday. the rules for my little mach meet were 2-3 attempts per lift, no knee wraps, and that I would be using my close grip on the bench instead of moving to my normal comp grip and pausing each press. the results were encouraging to say the least!
Squats
135x3
225x3
305x3
365x3
425x3x2
485x2x2
545x1
attempts
1st 575x1 (smokeshow)
2nd 605x miss (had the strength but over thought it and made some little errors that should be easy to fix in the next 11 weeks)
Close Grip Bench Press (pasued)
135x3
175x3
205x3
240x3x2
275x2x2
305x1
(attempts)
1st 325x1 (Paused PR)
2nd 335x1 (close grip PR)
3rd 355xmiss (got the rep but couldn’t keep my butt down, looked like my 335 attempt from 2 weeks ago)
Deadlift
355x3
425x2
495x1
565x1
635x1
(attempts)
675x1 (easy and ties RAW PR)
705x miss tore a callous at the top and couldn’t quite lock the weight out
705x1 (30 lb RAW PR was my goal for October… guess I’m 11 weeks ahead of schedule)
Total for the day 1615 with a 575/335/705 split
Was pleased with today, the squats were the only lift that I didn’t beat my last RAW meet numbers on and when I had that meet I was using wraps and the 575 constituted a no wrap PR to legal depth. I plan on retrying the 605 squat in about 6 weeks, hitting it without wraps would leave me with about a 1650 “opener total” and allow me to focus my 2nd attempts to be committed to hit my goal total of 1700 and have all my third attempts available to pad the total and push it as high as I can take it. I can’t wait. 11 weeks out and I’m only 85 lbs away… time is ticking, time to get to work…
Awesome numbers, this is huge motivation for a complete beginner like myself!
3.5x BW deadlift?! Dude, you are KILLING it!!

Am taking you up on this kind offer good sir!
Inspired by your log I tried out deadliting with a sumo stance today after my working sets with a conventional stance (I ended up really liking how it felt and it seems to fix a lot of recurring form issues I was having with a conv. stance). Are there any specific tips or things I should aware of/focusing on when lifting sumo? Thanks in advance!

It is a lot more efficient for taller or lankier athletes (the reason I use it) the definite focus points for bringing up a sumo deadlift IMO are hip flexibility/strength, start speed, and glute strength (also it is my belief that the key to any great deadlift is grip strength no matter what style). Everything else is built around those. Here’s a video tutorial I made a while back where I go over some positioning and alignment, hope that it can cover some other key points for you. Let me know if you have anymore questions
Sheiko Awesome squat workout BW 203
Had a great workout today, which came as a bit of a surprise considering how beat up I expected to be from Monday’s session and yesterdays Axle clean and deads… I know I can’t seem to stay away. The thing that made today’s squats so special is that I decided to see what I could do without throwing on my belt. A method that I hadn’t started utilizing until last Friday (since last summer when I suffered a back injury) Let’s just say I surprised myself…
Squats
135x3
225x3
305x5
365x4
425x3x2
485x3x2
515x2x2 (a single would’ve been a PR 2 doubles is a pretty hefty PR)
485x3
add belt finally
485x3 (decided to take these as low as I possibly could)
Close grip Bench
135x5
175x5
205x4
240x3x2
275x2x2
295x2x3
295x5 (PR) 1 really ugly rep
Squats Round 2
335x5
395x4
455x3x4
455x10 (PR)
Leg raises
40
Was definitely spent by the end of the session but felt really good about all the PRs. Tomorrow will be a well accepted off day. I’ll be hitting bench and deads on Friday and then squatting again for my last session in WA on Saturday.
Awesome, very useful video. Thanks!
Can’t go wrong with the Hulk Hogan entrance song, lol. Very nice squatting, BTW.

Dude I recently switched to a low bar squat placement and was getting that abrasion from the bar too! I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person getting that lol…it hurts like heck if it gets deep enough as I see you experienced haha. Great squatting man and awesome PRs!
