I’m not a good enough bencher to take time off but I am damn good at recovering. Thank you sheiko haha
Haha yeah.

I just noticed something. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you lift without sweatpants unless you were wearing a singlet lol.

Lol gotcha.

I used to deadlift in sweats too, but in my case it was to shield my shins from the beating sumos put on them. Eventually I eschewed them because they were getting torn apart and caught on the bar. Now I just suck it up and pull in shorts exclusively. I don’t know how yours stay intact…maybe mine are just cheapo lol.

Anyways, good stuff in here as usual bro. I don’t post in here much and just generally lurk, but I gotta say that I have nothing but respect for you and look up to you a lot, because to me, you represent the tenacity of someone who has never been outrageously gifted genetically or otherwise, but rather was in the exact same boat as the rest of us at some point and had to put in obnoxiously massive amounts of work to get to where they were, and did so drug-free (no disrespect to geared lifters at all, but I’m sure you get my point).

TL;DR: Mirin’. :stuck_out_tongue:

Usually listening to your body seems like the best advice. But becoming great at something never happens on accident and sometimes you have to push forward and demand more of yourself…

I am asking a lot of myself in this program but that is intentional and I am serious about getting better from this. sometimes you have to bleed a little to achieve victory

Should have been really sore today… but decided that I am not good enough to be sore yet, maybe someday

Day off to recover and then back at it. Next week are all the same sessions but I’ll be adding 20 lbs to all the squats and 5 lbs to all the benches. The real fun starts tuesday!

To grow as a person or as a lifter it is important to push past your comfort zone. That being said, I have decided that the hi rep days are my least favorite thing… and therefore will most likely be the most beneficial.

Squat
135x2
225x2

Dips

Rope pushdowns/facepulls

Another day in the books and I am sure that this week will be challenging but I am accepting the challenge and will walk away from this a better lifter as a result!

Day 2 of week 2 for smolov. I’m settling in and getting comfortable with the wokouts now and my focus is no longer on finishing the sessions but on making every rep as perfect as I can. this is the halfway point and I am ready to push through to the finish!

Workout was not bad at all today, sure the squats are a push to make it through but I am not on the ground at the end so I know I can make it through! bring on the weekend!

Today was mentally a challenge. I didn’t want to keep squatting but I didn’t allow myself the option of stopping and made it through. Tomorrow will be a battle but today I am still moving forward

All in all the session went pretty fast managed it in under 2 hours even with the warmup and accessories. I’m mostly excited that I am done with the sets of 9 now! woot

today was tough, I did what I had to and even a little extra but I need to really bring my recovery game to make it through the rest of this

Thought about why I am doing this. and decided that it’s because I want to, even if I don’t feel like it every set. this is what I want for myself. No excuses 2 sessions left

What training max did you use for the squats again?
xjusticex2013x wrote:

I used 578 for this base messo, my plan is to retest the week after and run the intense cycle on whatever number I get

Today was better than thursday but it was still a challenge.

135x2
225x2
315x2
405x1

1 session left and it is definitely uncharted territory, no excuses I only have 1 opportunity left to improve!

good work ben, looking forward to seeing what your maxes are.

You’re the man now dog!

Final day, did what I had to

Squat
135x2

275x1
295x1

All in all this program was just what I thought it would be, really hard and very effective. Deloading this week then I shall prep for the intensive phase the journey continues!

Been about 6 weeks since I have done a sumo deadlift and I am doing a mock meet later this week so I figured I should at least make sure I remember how =) the rest of the session was just some fun BW stuff to loosen up and deload

Deads
135x1
225x1
315x1
405x1
495x1
add belt
605x8

Pullups/dips
BWx10/10x3

Box jumps
doubles up to
48.5"x2x4

Muscle ups BWx6

today was fun, the mock meet should be fun, relaxing after will be tolerable… smolov intensive cycle will likely not be fun… but that is why it will make me better!

I recently had the pleasure of doing an interview for Lift.net about life, lifting, and some other things it was recently posted on their website and I am pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

Possibly the best gym session of my life! my consistency seems to have caught up to my effort and today was incredible. I still have a long way to go but this was a very good start!

Squat:
warmups
135x2
225x2
315x2
405x1
add belt
495x1
555x1

1st attempt: 590 good lift
2nd attempt: 615 good lift
3rd attempt: 625 good lift

Bench press:
warmups
225x2
275x1
315x1
335x1

1st attempt: 355 good lift
2nd attempt: 365 good lift
3rd attempt: 375 butt came up no lift

Deadlift:
Warmups
265x1
355x1
445x1
add belt
535x1

1st attempt: 625 good lift
2nd attempt: 715 good lift
3rd attempt: 735 good lift

total: 1725 PR no wraps total PR gym total

625 Squat was a 20 lb all time no wrap PR
365 Bench was a 10 lb all time flat footed PR I got 375 but the butt lift was too extreme
735 Deadlift was a 2 lb all time Raw PR, and was a 20 lb PR on a regular bar.

I have very high hopes prepping for my June meet now. It is too early to start calling out numbers but I will say that I am going to run the smolov intense phase to prep my squat that I will be wrapping for the meet. I will likely switch my bench back to a tucked foot position which traditionally makes my press much better, and I haven’t worked my sumo pull for 6 weeks with the exception of 605x8 earlier this week, and then came back to hit an all time PR on it (small as it may have been) I am fired up and ready to do big things in the next few months!
