Who Inspired You?

When i was a kid i wanted to be this guy…the greatest Tarzan, i was in the woods building tree houses and swinging on vines,

Good job bringing this thread back.

It’s amazing to see how often the same names come up.

Writing this post actually got me thinking about and remembering why I really train, and what my goals and ideals really are.

For me it was Arnold, Bruce Lee, Dragon Ball Z, Stallone, Bruce Willis. Also my father who did martial arts. Some of my earliest memories are of him doing sidekicks against “the kicking tree” in this nature reserve he used to take me and my brother to. (As kids, to us it was basically dad trains kung fu deep in the woods awesomeness). My father in turn was a big Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali fan. He did wing chun and one day invited me to train when I was maybe 7 yo and I kept that up on and off until I was about 20. Ended up taking up boxing and competing in my 20s. Also did a bit of wrestling and muay thai because UFC.

The guy who actually inspired me to go find a gym and start lifting though was Elliott Hulse.

I don’t box anymore but martial arts is permanently ingrained in my mind. I took up bjj this year at 32 years old. I love lifting but if I had to choose between having an ordinary looking body and a high level of fighting ability (and conditioning), or Arnolds prime body but no fighting ability, I’d choose the normal body.
