Who Here Doesnt Drink?

How does this fit in with the topic at hand? Do you find yourself incapable of controlling alcoholic intake or do you find that excessive intake is the best way to make up one’s mind on the substance?

I personally don’t find anything innately evil or good about alcohol or whatever drugs one cares to mention, and trust myself to moderate intake. Even poison has its use.

If PSU isn’t doing well, I can have nervous yelling drinking. Normally i control it and stay legal to drive, but those shaky games are hard on me, hahaha!

I found out trappist ales and other high alcohol content beers just get me to drunk. Funny thing, PSU was down 14 in the Alamo bowl. I was drinking Hoegarden, btw. My burps have never been cleaner and crisper , hahaha! Something to be said about drinking good beer.

As for the club thing, I would go to the bartender early and ask for a vodka tonic minus the alcohol. Just tell him a splash. you don’t have to deal with the why you’re not drinking crap and look sociable but keep your wits about you while everyone is wasted.

There are times i don’t drink for a variety of reasons. sometimes for extended periods of time. I found just getting some non alcoholic drink made it easier question wise. now that I’m in my 40s it doesn’t matter, but years ago it made it an easiser night than dealing with the come on have on bs.

That’s most wise of you Niki, but to a guy who just turned 21, moderation usually means squat.

I don’t think alcohol or any other drug should be banned (can you live without sorbitol?). This thread isn’t about any of that. It’s about people who had the resilience to eliminate that substance from their lives. That’s no easy feat.

Drinking is dangerous in the sense that it impairs judgment, decreases reflexes and can cause nasty long-term health issues. It’s not inherently evil, but your chances of abusing it pretty high in my opinion. Life is unpredictable, and the next big bump in the road might cause a drinker to do some regrettable decisions. How many fatal car crashes are due to alcohol? How much domestic violence is? How many livers go to waste?

There are some things one is better off leaving completely out of his/her life. I believe alcohol to be one of them. I don’t believe one should do his/her own body harm in moderation or in excess.

Anyhow, I raise my carrot juice to you. Cheers!

I don’t drink anymore because I tend to suck at life when I do haha. I started way too early(12? I think 20 now) and have seen alcohol destory lives around me, weighed the options out and made a decision. My only problem is people on either side of the fence that preach to the other, let’s keep the decisions to the individual.

Also about the socializing without drinking, it depends on what kind of will power you have and what kind of personality you have sober(do you have one?). For awhile I couldn’t go out without drinking because I was BORING without it haha. But hell I had a party this weekend and had 15-20 people drinking in my apartment and didn’t have a drop, still had fun and got a girls phone number while the guys she came with was puking off my back deck. It’s still possible to have fun and lead a very normal life.

When my friends go to the bars, I usually stay at home and make chicken and brocolli. Then I stand in front of the mirror and work on my posing for about 3 hours. Living the good life.

If asked a year ago: Yes, often and heavy.

Now: rarely. I’ve been drunk once since…um…Sept 07? I find that it really throws a monkey wrench in your training. I’m pretty lean now; so doing some drinking really messes the way I look up.

Its good to wake up clear headed.

I don’t want to advocate going overboard her, and respect people’s choice to not drink. Some have a hard time controlling their drinking and have done a great job staying sober.

It does seem to me that often the young guys and gals just over do it to get drunk, not drinking to enjoy the drink. you wouldn’t eat 15 snickers bars, so why have 15 beers or shots?
There’s no need to drink until you throw up.

I told my 13 year old son to never drink crap if he drinks. It’s stupid to drink that much of shit when you can have three great beers or two glasses of a fine single malt. I hope he listens. he already can grill a mean steak and burger and knows how to pour a beer or a scotch. This year he masters lobster on the grill.

Agreed i’am 45 and i 'am not out to get hammered every night but just like anything else if its in moderation, i don’t have a problem w/it one way or the other, i said the same to my 16 yr old if you think you have to have that drink at that moment come to me we will sit on the back porch and i will let you try one, hasn’t happened yet. their is no sneaking around w/it when you arte rt up front w/it Tom, next time have your kid grill me a rare steak w/a ice cold beer … thanks

I’m half Irish half American Indian which basically means I drink way too much and can’t handle it. Seriously, I’ve never been much of a drinker but when I used to I’d get black out drunk, which could be considered a problem, so I quit.

HAHA, nah, no go on the sheesha for me, akhi.

That reminds me, I need to stop on my way home and pick up a sixer.

A cold, frosty one tastes best right after a work out; especially after sitting in the sauna.

I don’t drink to get drunk; sometimes it happens whether I want it to or not but I figure life is too short why worry about it?

Oh my gosh…this is helarious!!! Im Cherokee Indian and Irish myself. I SHOULD be a drunk!!! I was the same exact way when I was younger. I’d drink till I fell over. I love the feeling of being drunk. Im fucking Super Man, will do anything, and Im funny as hell after a few martinis or shots of tequilla!!!

But now Im old and luckily a little wiser and just thankful to be alive so my drinking is limited to once every 3 to 4 years…if that. I dont miss it at all.

Made this forum because I recently made it a new motto of mine to not drink. So that means no more going to bars/clubs and im 21. Im wondering to those of you who also have done the same, what did you do the first few weeks after deciding to abstain, that kept you “sane” so to speak. And what do you fill your time with that you used to spend at bars/clubs. Thanks[/quote]

I might be wrong, but it sounds like you enjoyed the atmosphere just not the alcohol. What some of my friends have done to avoid the whole “why aren’t you drinking” thing is just get a job at said bar. Now you’re still there, you’ve got a good reason to be sober, and you’re making money that you can send Biotest. Win, win, win situation.

It took me a long time and several attempts before I quit. The main reason I had such a hard time quitting was I though life would be shit without it. Brothers and Sisters was I ever wrong, I total enjoy my life now. I don’t have that social crutch anymore.

I’m free to do anything at anytime, day or night. I still go to the night clubs because yes you can dance sober. Plus watching drunks is like adult cartoons, it’s a blast. Plus I’m to old for that shit anymore.
