Who Here Directly Trains Abs?

DO NOT lock your legs underneath some pad when doing crunches or sit-ups. You work your psoas (hip flexor) and not your abs, contrubuting to anterior pelvic tilt and putting you in flexion more than you already are. [/quote]

Vince Gironda used to use a belt over his hips in order to stabilize his body while eliminating the hip flexors from engaging during his crunches for this reason.

I do band crunches on an ab bench (feet free, not locked). 2x green bands- not too easy!

I superset hanging situps with roll outs, then do high rep standing side bends supersetted with standing torso twists holding a plate, and then hanging leg raise where one rep consists of bringing my knees to my chest, going back to hang, and then touching the bar with my toes.

I’m thinking of cutting out ab work, especially since I’m trying to out on weight. Everything I’ve read on here says “lose the six pack” for real weight gain. Thoughts?

That’s in reference to diet. If you’re constantly eating levels that allow your abs to poke through, you’re more than likely not eating enough to gain muscle, hence the thought you mentioned.

Lose the sixpack stands for some extra fat you will accumulate while on a good caloric surplus. If ab work helps you lift more weight, keep it in.

I beat tires with sledge hammers

See? That’s why I like to just lurk on this board. I come across as sounding even dumber than usual.

(Powerlifter here)
My abs just aren’t strong when I don’t do Zerchers of some kind.
Also, a few regular exercises;
Ab wheel
Side bends
Russian twists
Satnding ab work with a band.
