Wow! I bet you can’t cut that sucker with a chainsaw… lol
what is that? Okra?
Yes. Sometimes they grow up against the stalk and are hidden by the leaves.
And CL is correct, it is hard and coarse.
Have you ever planted any of the cow horn okra? My neighbor did and it was huge, but still tender. The plants were so tall she had to pick it with a ladder.
Never heard off it.
These plants are maybe 3-4’ tall.
Now that it is hot, okras will be cut every couple of days. Or until you get sick of them haha.
I done fuck’d up y’all - I have 4 Sweet 100 tomato plants and i didn’t realize they could grow up to 12 feet - mine are at about 8 right now with no end of growing in sight. I may need to re-stake.
Next year, I’ll be building a trellis and having them go up that …
Why not just prune them?
I do. But I also don’t cut off branches with flowers or already set fruits on them as, ya know, a guys gotta feed his family and all ![]()
It’s not really bushy; the main vine just keeps growing.
Didn’t pull my non productive eggplants and now have fruits producing every couple of days. Didn’t water other than sprinkler. Crazy.
I had some make all summer without water then we got a big rain and put eggplant on like crazy. Pulled some and cooked some, the skin was so tough you couldn’t even eat them… lol

Last Tuesday… and 48 hours later. First legit snow of the year, so thing’s’re all done here. Hurricane Isaias in the summer jacked stuff up, too.
Ended up getting a decent, basic medley for the season - lettuce, kale, some herbs, cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans. None of the corn or carrots survived the squirrels. Some other stuff went in and never produced much. Marigolds went wild and took over more than I’d intended (that huge bare chunk on the right side of the box). I put down some cover crop peas and oats maybe 2-3 weeks before the snow hit, so I don’t know if it got a chance to really do anything or not.
All in all, for a first timer I got a good feel for what to do and what not to do. The bed’s in place now, so I just need to watch the calendar to stay on track without falling behind. Going to try to keep some stuff going indoors now.
How’d everyone else do this year? I’m sure some folks don’t actually have seasons, so it’s probably business as usual.
Hello! I have had that experience. During the quarantine we moved to my parent’s house, it was great to grow fruits and herbs. But now we are back in the city, and I can only grow lemons on the balcony.
Somebody’s getting serious!
Still have a lot of work to do, but at least I got a start on it.
Gonna be your own personal sauna in August
What zone you in? I have a small grow light set up in my basement … I’ll be starting seeds in about a month
Probably not that many though lol
Zone 8b
We are on a roller coaster weather wise here.
I’m 6a … shorter outdoor seasons but I try to give my crops a head start and transplant in late April through May …
I am probably a little too late on the cole crops but we had a decent spring last year so… I am hoping to get them in the ground before it gets too hot. Iffy on the tomatoes and peppers but I did the best I could. I had trouble getting some of the supplies, then complications with a broken water pipe, weather etc…
I have two kinds of broccoli, lettuce, red cabbage and brussel sprouts popping up. I could not find cauliflower seed any here this year.
