Whitney Houston Dead
Professor X wrote:

I just find those focusing on the drugs alone to be interesting to watch.
why wouldn’t the presumed and likely cause of her death NOT be a focus?

And this is an example of what I mean.

Your “wit” needs an upgrade. Maybe even a thesaurus…or at least remedial reading.
Who is your favorite comedian?
Greer Barnes
Never heard of him but I’ll look him up. I’ll still make one off and random comments though, which actually are fucking hilarious even if you feel a little testy. And, no joke, Whitney Houston was just one bitch.

I just wish that people that are using flowery language like “She was an angel with a voice like heaven and she was torn from us too early” will be sure to say those sort of things about people who are still alive…I mean instead of saying today “Christina Aguilera is alright I guess,” try to appreciate her voice now and say it on facebook instead of waiting till she dies next March.

Christina Aguilera is going to die next March?!?! Damnit.

What will she die from??

I remember when I first saw the video “I wanna dance with somebody” as a kid, I thought she was fucking beautiful. Ill choose to remember for the talent and beautiful voice she gave us, not her unfortunate baggage. I dont understand why so many of you guys always have to have the who cares I dont give a fuck mentality. How about for at least a little while quit it with the BS attitude and follow the mantra if you dont have anything good to say (or constructive) don’t say it at all.

I know I know some real White Knightery I just posted, but its how I feel…sniff.

Well said.

To voice an opinion like any other?
It makes you look like a hypocrite though. Most of the famous dead people the general public sees in a positive light were on drugs or were alcoholics…from Babe Ruth to Marilyn Monroe to Elvis. To act like Whitney deserves to be degraded MORE than these others is strange and interesting.

I was a fan back in the day like most people probably were. I think she made some bad choices in life…and I don’t even know the details. I just know she’s dead and typing how much I don’t care over and over makes about as much sense as her wasting that much talent.
Except that her death, which I don’t care about, is a topic of discussion made up of opinions and perceptions that I find interesting. And I never said anything about those other people but same dif. with the unmentioned Johnny Cash being an exception.
Actually you do care because after you made your original statement you then spent time defending it repeatedly.

Maybe you don’t care that she’s dead because you “don’t know her” but you have to realise a lot of people feel like they do know her through her art (her music). Like I said before, music and art in general is powerful and brings out emotion. Your actual relationships are nothing more than solidified emotional connections.

I don’t really know why you’re trying to be dis-respectful. You need to shut-up and listen.

No disrespect to Christina but she’s not “The Voice.” =p

Yeah I know. I’m not ‘devastated’ or ‘sad’ or anything like that but I appreciate her talents and the impact her music had on people. I’m not going to be crass and dis-respectful just to stand out of common sentiment.

zyzz had one of hte most tragic deaths of all time!!!

OF ALL TIME!!!1

I met Whitney Houston in '92. She was in the city where I lived at the time and someone from her entourage came into our shop and asked if we could accommodate her after 6pm to do some shoe shopping. She spent about a half hour and dropped a little over a grand on merchandise. Very nice woman, polite and apologetic for keeping us after hours. It’s a shame that she’s passed on, back in the day she was the definition of a super-star.

Cool, me neither. But I am going to comment about my thoughts on her death in that very topic on this discussion board. Maybe your opinion sucks (it does).

Quite true, as we saw that no one gave Amy Winehouse’s needle-ridden corpse a hard time last year.
Yeah, I can’t think of any famous pale persons that died of drug overdoses… except for…

Elvis
Janis Joplin
Jim Morrison
Maryilin Monroe
River Pheonix
James Belushi
Chris Farley
Amy Winehouse

Lindsey Lohan (soon to be added to the list)

And this is off the top of my head. I don’t feel like digging into the bowels of google to find the rest of the list.

Seriously dumbass time to bring out the angry black man.
Haha not angry, just trying to do some topical humor. I don’t disagree with the your examples, but I did think it was weird when people were saying Heath Ledger got so absorbed into the character of the Joker that it led him to overdose on drugs. I disagreed and simply said he died because he was a drug addict not because he was so committed to his craft.

And I’m not a dumbass, my mom tells me I’m very witty and intelligent you mean white lady. Haha

Let me get this right then;

So the respective media treatment of Whitney and Heath were driven by race?

Last I checked Whitney was derided by the black community for being a crack-head and the butt of jokes about herself and Bobby.

Crack also does not have a “race” and the fact is, crack is associated with more societal ills than pills and such, although that is changing given that pill (painkiller and such) addiction is rising dramatically along with the crime that comes with it.

Whitney was also a cross-over artist that I believe, quite frankly, was treated fairly gently by the media given her troubles.
It wasn’t a serious comment, just a jab at the media and trying to be funny. Don’t disagree with anything you said, but I still think it was weird when people said Heath Ledger lost his mind while shooting The Dark Knight because he was such a committed actor, he overdosed becaue he was a drug addict, I thought the media was reaching for a story on that one, that’s all.

Not looking for this to become a debate, I agree with both you and Christine, I have a weird sense of humor, and I was drunk when I posted that. Haha

Well I never heard Heath Ledger’s story that way, that he was “too immersed in the role”.

I think he may have gotten off easier because we didn’t know about for 20 years like we did with Whitney, or so obviously like we did with Amy Winehouse. That’s why many people will shake their heads about Whitney and say “I knew it would happen sooner or later,” sort of thing.

It’s a shame such an angel was ripped from our…only kiddin Nards!

I haven’t given much thought to Whitney since the 80’s to be honest. Even when she was in the news for drug abuse, man abuse, whatever… I gave it little thought beyond “well, that’s a shame.”

But she was a big influence in the world of music and has undoubtedly inspired countless young kids and other artists who will, in turn, inspire others. Even if it were just inspiring someone’s 4 year old daughter to dance in front of the telly and sing, entertaining a family. For that she has my respect, regardless of what her personal failings were. Not a single adult on this planet hasn’t gone through life without making mistakes. Some are merely more destructive than others.

Catalyst, shmatalyst. Bobby was just a troubled “artiste”…

I caught the last half hour of the Grammys last night. Of course they memorialized Whitney, along with a list of others in the music biz who died this past year.

However, THEY FUCKIN’ MISSED THE GREAT ETTA JAMES!

Seriously?

I didn’t watch, but really no excuse for missing Etta James. She just died too.

Inexcusable.
