Well, spent most of the afternoon in an orthopedic doctors office. Long story short, I have “chunks of cartilage floating around” in my right knee, and am having surgery on tuesday. He said there’s also a possible meniscus tear, but they won’t know until they get in there with their camera.
They think my left knee is just severe tendonitis, but are giving me an MRI a week after my surgery to see. Doc said it’s possible that there’s serious scar tissue build-up on the patella tendon, at which point they’d detach the tendon, scrape the scar tissue off and reattach it.
Worst case scenario no lower body related activity [lifting, sports, etc…] for 6 months or so. That would suck, but I’m just glad that one day soon I’ll wake up with no pain and be able to play ball like I haven’t in a couple of years.
Alright I checked out Joe Al’s nose touch on the rim, that was SICK!!! Serious rise.
Bummer on the knee, hope the surgery goes well. Yeah the doc will get in there and clean it up. They also stick a camera in your knee so they know what they are doing, you can watch the tape if you want of them cleaning up your knee. Nothing exciting, but still cool to see inside your body.
And bummer on the left knee as well, hope your knees get better soon. Maybe playing bball for so many years wears on the joints, but I could just be stereotyping.
I tore my ACL/MCL/PCL in one shot playing pickup, it took almost three years for it to be normal again. But there are different factors for me, as in I tore all three ligaments and I’m a heavier guy (close to 300 lbs) so everyone’s recovery timetable is different.
Praying for your safe, successful surgery and a speedy recovery, and been praying for your GF’s recovery as well.

Thanks man. They actually told me I was gonna be completely knocked out, or maybe I misunderstood. Either way I’m gonna be on some heavy meds. Hopefully aside from the floating chunks nothing’s torn.
Sorry to hear about your knee man. Three years is a long time, but at least you’re straight now. I honestly don’t remember what they said the recovery time for this is, I just remember six months if they have to clear scar tissue of my left patella. They were being optimistic about everything regarding the right knee, so that’s a plus. Guess I’ll know on Tuesday.
Alexander has hops. The older I get the more my inner conspiracy theorist comes out. Kinda think the NBA didn’t want him to beat Howard [or anyone else] and wanted more international appeal so that put in Fernandez. Wrong move. Maybe one day we’ll have both James White and Alexender in the contest to make up for the league consistently fucking shit up.
RE upper- explosive push-ups 7x2 with 2 second pause a bit off the floor. Shoulder width incline-135x8,185x5,225x2x5,4,185x2x10,10+1. Got 2 plates for 5 on the first set, and needed help for the eleventh rep at 185 on the last. Wide grip pullups 4x10 + straight-arm pulldowns 4x10. db skull crushers 2x15 + preachers 2x15 + gripper 2x15. Was spent so called it.
Getting stronger. Thinking if I can get 225 for a shoulder width 5 on the incline, than maybe if I cut a few sets on ME day I might get 275 for a duece. Just might try it come Monday, or maybe I won’t fuck with a good thing and let it ride. My surgery’s on Tuesday, so might take the week off after Mondays super bench extravaganza. We’ll see.
Since I’m only gonna be in the weightroom doing upper twice a week for at least the next month I’m gonna try and maintain 175lbs and lean up, while hopefully holding on to as much leg strength as possible and increasing it through my upper body. Was told that I’m gonna be doing rehab work at least three times a week for the first month after, so that should be interesting.
Hope the surgery goes well, doesn’t seem like the Roto-Rooter I had, hopefully a fast and strong recovery.
I see what you are saying about your theory. Since the NBA is going global, they want a global field of participants, so it makes sense. I would rather have the best participants, regardless of race/nationality, but that’s just me. One more reason why I should be NBA Commish.
Check your PMs, sent you something regarding knee surgery.
ME upper- shoulder width bench-95x10,135x8,185x5,225x3,245x3,255x3,265x2+1. Almost had that 3rd, but got stuck. B1]Db nuetral inc 90’sx3x6 B2]weighted nuetral pullups 45x4x6. C1]Db skull crushers 35’sx3x10 C2]seated db curls 35’sx3x8. Love the ws4sb set-up, just wanted to modify it a bit.
Surgery’s at noon manana. Not supposed to eat after midnight or drink anything after 7:30 in the morning. Have no idea what to expect, so I’ll holler when I can.
Had my surgery today. Thankfully nothing was torn. They yanked some cartilage out and cleaned out my kneecap. Pain’s pretty much non-existent, so everything’s good. Gonna crash in a bit.
Had my first physical therapy session yesterday. She said my mobility and strength are great for a day after surgery.
She also said I have achromalgy [sp?] which, while I’m not entirely sure on what it is, I know it’s not good. The surgeon said I’m a 3-4 out of 5, with 5 being the worst. Already feel better and stronger than even a day ago.
Gonna hold off on the MRI on the left. Even with insurance this shit’s getting expensive.
Did some upper tonight. Kind of a deload I guess, as nothing was too taxing. Explosive pushups 7x2 with 2 second pause off the floor. Shoulder width incline-135x10,185x6,205x3x6. Wide grip pullups 4x12, reverse grip cable pressdowns 3x12 + db hammer preachers 3x10, laterals 15’sx2x15.
Rode the sitting bike for 5 minutes after at the pt’s request. Felt weird, but no pain. Haven’t taken anything for pain at all as I haven’t felt too bad, although I can tell I’m getting grumpier over the last couple of days.
ME upper-shoulder width bench-95x10,135x8,185x5,225x3,245x3,255x3,265x2+1. Almost had it and lost it midway. B1]nuetral db inc 90’sx4x6 b2]t-bar row 4x6. Db shrugs 90’sx10,100’sx10,110’sx10. bb curls-barx10,65x10,85x8,95x6.
Good workout. Getting stronger. Gonna switch it to close grip next week. Knee’s feeling better. Still pretty swollen, but warmed up tonight with foam rolling and some mobility stuff from Maximum Strength, which made a huge difference. Gonna start doing that stuff daily, and maybe do some Goddmornings and hamstring stuff manana. ya’ll be good.
Gonna start Cressey’s program again tonight. Starting with upper, and my schedule will be Tues,Thurs,Fri,Sun. Today’s the two week mark on my surgery, and the knee’s getting stronger by the day. Jumped up and put both palms on my nine foot ceiling with little effort, which I think is pretty good for having surgery fourteen days ago. Gonna start with 225 on squats and adjust as needed. I’ll holler later.
From here on out when I say bench I mean a shoulder width grip is being used. Tonight was day 1 of Cressey’s Maximum Strength. Bench-95x10,135x8,185x6,235x5x4. First few sets were easy, the last was tough. Db nuetral inc 75’sx3x10 + cable rows 200x4x10. Prone trap raise 10’sx3x10 + external rotation 10’sx3x10. Side bridges. This was fun. “Bounced” around the gym to test the knee, no problems.
I’m at least a month away from dunking or sprinting, but it’s getting better by the day and i think I’l be able to build strength back up way fast. This program seems perfect with the emphasis on foam rolling and mobility work. Was sweating bullets by the time I left the gym. Fun workout.
What up bro. Dang man, that’s a speedy recovery, I was still on pain meds and eating one cracker a day and being stuffed LOL. Glad your recovery is going well. Hope you come back stronger and faster, as your log states.

Ha, thanks man. We’ll see tomorrow how well I’m healing up. Gonna do some foam rolling, mobility work and some other stuff this afternoon to kinda gauge how it’s going.
Well, I lied. Was gonna just do some foam rolling and mobility work, but after all that got all hyped up and did lower. Had no idea where to start so just winged it. Also gonna sub traditional back squats for box squats as I feel they’ll be better for my knees and are more natural. Squats-135x5,185x4,225x4,245x2x4,255x4,265x4. All of these were smooth, but obviously not gonna force things too soon. Plan on using up to 275-295 for next week. I’ll be back up to reppin’ 3 plates in no time. Speed deads-225x8x2. Used an overhand grip, flew through these. Db walking lunges 45’sx4x8. Same deal, not gonna push too soon. These felt good though. Planks and reverse crunches.
Good workout. Was cautiously optimistic about the knee. Gotta reign myself in and not overdo things off the bat. Gonna wrap it and ice it in a bit. Ya’ll be good.
Upper- A1] db push press 70’sx4x6 A2]weighted chins +50lbsx4x6. Changed things up here. Don’t have access or funds for bands for pushups and no one was there to stack plates on my back so I did db bench instead. B1]db bench 90’sx3x10,10,8 B2]db rows 90x3x8.
Started to get light headed and nauseous so stopped at 8 on the 3rd set of db bench. No cable station for external rotations so used dbs 5lbsx3x12.
Realized I haven’t set any goals for the program. Didn’t do “packing day” 'cause of the knee thing. Gonna sub vertical jump for broad jump. All time best is 35" from a standstill and 41.5" off of the run. Would love to be around those numbers in 4 months. So my goals are:
Standing vert-at least 34"-not sure
Running vert-at least 40"-not sure, but jumping has always come easy to me
Back squat-405 will be “easier” due to muscle memory-not sure
Bench-305-currently 275
3RM chin- +100lbs-not sure
Deadlift-495-currently 435
Bodyweight-180-185lbs-currently 174
Dropped some weight after the surgery. Got down to 172 first thing in the morning but after lifting this week and eating like a champ back up to 174. Feel it’s realistic to put between 6-10lbs in the next 4 months. Gonna do legs tonight. I’ll holler!
The knee has felt a little weird. Not pain so much as just weird. Some times I get a clicking noise doing random things, but at the post op visit the doc said that was normal. Really hope I’m not pushing too hard too fast. Guess we’ll see…
Front squat-135x6,155x5,185x6,195x6. Had no idea where to start. Cleaned the weight at the start of every set. Doesn’t say to do that in the program, just threw it in there as an added bonus. 195 was tougher, but the strength is there to go heavier.
Gotta remember to pace myself and ease into it. Will go heavier next week. Rack pulls below knee-315x6,335x6,365x6,385x6. Same deal.
Coulda gone heavier but glad it went the way it did. Db bulgarians 40’sx6,50’sx6,60’sx6. Pull throughs 120x3x10. Not sure if I’m doing these right. Forgot to do abs. Supposed to do upper on Tuesday but feeling pretty good so might do it manana. Ya’ll be good.
Medium week phase 1-
Bench-95x10,135x8,185x6,240x4x4
A1] nuetral db inc 80’sx3x9 A2] Cable rows 205x4x9
B1]trap raises 3x12 B2]lying external rotations 3x12
Side bridges.
Went one day ahead of schedule and was still a bit sore. Added weight to all sets from last workout, so that’s cool. Last set of bench was tough. Think I’m gonna switch to a M/T/Th/F schedule, as it’s more compliant with school and work. On paper these workouts don’t look too rough, but so far I’m sweating buckets by the end of each session. I’m also sore as shit the next few days. Gonna up the cals 'cause it looks like they’re needed.
Just kiddin’ 'bout that schedule… Looks like M/W/TH/Sat is gonna have to do.
Squats-135x5,185x5,225x4,255x4,275x2x4. Halfway through warmups my left leg tightened up to the point of pain. Have no idea why. Was gonna do one more set at 275 but figured I shouldn’t push too hard too soon.
Speed deads 225x8x2
Walking db lunges 45’sx3x8
prone bridges + reverse crunches.
Good workout. Not any real knee pain but still getting clicking and popping noises/sensations. Gotta remind myself that it was just three weeks ago.
A1] db pushpress 75’sx4x6 A2] weighted chins +60lbsx3x6
B1] db bench 3x10,10,9 B2] db rows 90’sx3x7
C1] external rotations 10’sx3x12 C2] side bridges
Forgot I was supposed to do 3x12 on the db bench. These workouts take as longer/longer than the straight set workouts. The super sets kick my ass. I’m sucking wind after the warm-ups.
