I love it. Nothing will ever replace football for me, but it has taken over as my 2nd favorite sport to play. It’s surprisingly huge in Ohio despite our short summers(indoor is ridiculously popular up here, so it’s just an obvious thing to do for all those players I guess), and there are even indoor sand courts opening up all over the state now. The women are definitely a plus, it’s not like every girl that plays is a fitness model or anything but the average is great.
Shaky start to the season. It looks like the team is just having trouble adjusting to Mike Brown’s defensive system, with some turnover problems on the offensive end mixed in. They picked up solid wins against BKN and MIN so far, just need to get some consistency going throughout the season, not gonna make any extreme judgement with 77 left to play.
And ya Kyrie is exciting to watch, kid has some amazing ball skills.

I played a ton of beach volleyball in college. I have a few friends in the area that play in leagues as well. I’m joining once this first year of hell (graduate school) ends.
Not sure if they’re doin’ it now that it’s getting cold, but have you checked out the pickup gamrs at Memorial Park? They also apparently play at the courts near Sharpstown. I haven’t been to either but the buds I mentioned earlier were all about 'em.
What gym do you go to? Sounds like we’re practically neighbors.
Yeah, weather is ridiculous. I haven’t had a chance to explore much yet. School is pretty rough right now. Like I said, as soon as I’m done with this first year, I plan on either joining a league or at least finding some pickup games.
I go to Baylor’s athletic facility. It’s on the 8th floor of one of the parking garages. Really small gym, sick weight room with nothing but free weights and a few hammer strength machines. Just got a full bumper plate set, too. They actually have pickup games of indoor volleyball, badmitton, basketball, etc.
That’s badass. You in Med school? I go to the MidTown 24. It’s a cool gym, but has the limitations that plague most commercial gyms. Your spot do day passes? I’m itchin’ to use legit bumpers.

Dude, the Rockets look like shit. Remember when I said Howard doesn’t understand very basic basketball concepts like spacing, timing, ball movement and moving without the ball, and 9 years deep he still can’t create his own shot? Yeah. They’re offense devolves into Hatden dribbling the air out of the ball then shooting a contested step back 25 footer. The bright side is the season’s only 10 games old, so theoretically there’s time to fix it.

Nice. Definitely gonna check it out once I’m good. They can’t possibly look worse tgan the Rockets. Has Bynum come back yet?
Oh yeah, gotta add Paul George to the Curry/Irving list. That kid has major game. Also, I hate to say it, but Derrick Rose might never be the same player again. He looks like shit, and he’s taking the Bulls with him.
So did two different conditioning things this week that I though I’d share. Was wrapping up legs on Wednesday when got to talking with a gym bud about the days session. Our gym has a sled they keep on the basketball court, but it’s locked up. He knew three code (and now so do I), so we got to it. We pushed it one full length trip, then pulled it back. We alternated back and forth with the only rest being the timr it took the other to make the trip (about 30-40 seconds).
We did this non-stop for a little over 10 minutes. The push wasn’t too bad, but three pull on the way bacl was brutal. The last two trips my quads were locking up and I literally had to talk myself through finishing, haha. Definitely keeping these in.
Last night was an “off day” but I’ll usually do light pushups, muscle ups, something. Was reading some old articles and stumbled across the 4 minute pushup challenge so decided to give it a go. Did 30, 20, 15, 15, 15, 15. Touched my chest to the floor on the bottom, and locked out at the top on every rep.
According to Rooney thay falls in the “excellent” category. Think I need to bust 150 to reach the highest “level”, so that’s my goal. Think Friday’s are going to be my pushup challenge day now. The pump was unreal, and in true test fashion I immediately started drinking beer for the next several hours. My chest is fine, but my lats are actually fairly sore today. If y’all are up for something fun and competitive, check it out.Maybe we can get a little comp goin’.

Graduate school (PhD). Never heard of MidTown 24, although I haven’t explored much.
They don’t do day passes as far as I know, but I think it’s $5 for a given day for guests. Not sure what the membership price is for non-members of BCM, but for me, as a graduate student, it’s like $17 a month, I think.

Haha, it’s the 24 hour fitness in MidTown on Elgin and Louisiana. The name of the building is “The Mix in MidTown”. I’ll check into the BCM thing, see what they say about lifting for the day.
What’re you getting your PhD in? That’s an impressive amount of dedication to academia. Props dude.

Here are the main contacts for the gym. Robert or Sandra are the two people I would contact. Lowell is the man though. He always works out with me, or shadows; sorta acts like my coach.
Lowell Jones, Gym Attendant - 713-798-5810
Robert Farmer, Business Manager - 713-798-4477
Sandra Estelle-Hill, Director - 713-798-5080
Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. I majored in physics/chemistry as an undergraduate. Finished up in May and went straight into the PhD program. The biology is KILLING me, but I love it. Much appreciated for the acknowledgement.

Thanks bud. I’ll holler at 'em after the holidays and see what’s up. Semi-related, you ever read any Hawking? A Brief History Of Time blew my mind, and now I’m compelled to read his other books.

Flash, what’s good man? Long time. Just coming back onto the site. Great to see you on here still.
I see you’re still hoopin. How are the knees holding up?
Gotta talk hoops soon.

T, what’s up bud? Actually man, haven’t hooped since the summer. Tore the meniscus in my left knee and have been rehabbing. Things are starting to feel better, but not rushing it. Focusing on getting stronger/bigger and more mobile/healthy at the moment. Hope all is well homey.
Here’s an unpumped bathroom progress pic. Sorry about the shitty quality. Had to expand the pic, and that washed out some of the definition andmade everything fuzzy, but you get the Iidea. Training’s goin’ well. Pinched a nerve in my left neck/shoulder a few years ago and have some lingering nerve problems that are usually pretty manageable, but aggravated it recently so have been chillin’ on weight progression and focusing on quality lately. Feeling better though so gonna start pushing soon.
On the plus side, my knees are feeling better. Squatted 275 for a couple sets of 5 this week and even put down a rub-in dunk after a leg session a couple of weeks ago. Would love to be squatting 3 plates for 5 again by the summer and 405 for a single again by the fall. Better pics coming soon. Y’all be easy.
Hey man, thought you might dig this.
A year and a half ago this kid posted in the Beginners forum, he got some advice, disappeared, and… holy shit who’d’ve guessed… actually came back like he said he would and made some serious progress.
