Aye, heh. Thatās what I was trying to point out, the intra-racial nature of violence.
Given blacks make up 13ish% of the population, the relative ratio would be whatās troubling.
Iām not sure itās troubling, but itās definitely interesting.
I would guess most police-related deaths occur in urban areas where the population of black people is denser than in other environments. Crime is obviously higher in these areas. Poverty is higher, generally, too.
None of that is to say itās because more black people live there. I look at it like this: If there were no black people in America (or in Urban environments) would ______ (crime for example) go down? I think the answer is no because other racial groups; including, white people would fill the socioeconomic void. Meaning, they would be the drug dealers, they would be the poorest of the poor, they would be at the very bottom of the societal food chain and that is where the majority of the violence seems to occur (as far as I can tell).
Yeah, thatās a tough one. And itās for murder. Does the trend hold the same from assault/battery on a police officer?
I mean, in absolute numbers whites still kill more police officers. Still, does knowing the relative ratios, or getting a sort of real world street feel of this reality, help to put police at a higher level of readiness with black suspects?
It complicates things because it seems clear that change canāt only come from the police.
The problem with that statement is that officers are killed in the line of duty because they are murdered, because they shot themselves, they crashed their cars, etc.
