Racial Rantings and Baseball

Has anybody besides me noticed that Gary Sheffield is a racist asshole? Why is this guy getting a pass in the media? When John Rocker spewed his crap in 2000, it was 1rst and 2nd page news almost daily for weeks. Yet this cock sucker spews his racist, hateful shit and barely gets a slightly negative editorial. What gives with that? I seldom wish for anybody to get hurt in sports but this cock sucker is a pariah and he needs to go. Baseball does not need anymore crap going on, especially from this half wit.

It’s a shame to, I was kinda pulling for the Tigers, but I’d cut this guy if I were them. He is a distraction. I bet him and Pudge aren’t the best of friends, you know, being Latin and all.

Oh no, he said he didn’t think Torre was racist, even though he accused Torre of racist actions. That just makes him full of shit. A couple reporters put him in the same catagory as Manny Ramirez, someone who talks just to talk. I agree with that description.

It always seems strange to hear about such blatant racism in high profile arenas. For the most part, racism is long dead and contained to trailer parks in the backwoods of W. Virginia hillbilly land.

I don’t understand how people can harbor such sentiment. I get the general dislike of particular stereotypes (“gangster”, skater kids, pot heads etc) as one identifies traits he doesn’t like in many group members, but to hate people due to their skin color just seems so stupid, especially with such world exposure a millionaire, professional athlete must have.

I’m from Houston and never sensed much racism. Actually, minorities were more racist than Anglos. Latinos and blacks seem to have it out for each other down there and they both hate whites. I have never understood that either. The older generations would be ok in that i guess as they lived here pre-civil rights, but everyone truly is equal now.

Why the hate?

I do go to College in a relatively small texas town. There seems to be a constant social battle between the largely city born students and local rednecks who still live in 1850.

A cemetary here has confederate flags flying at Civil War veteran graves and this is supported by the city. While the history is very interesting indeed, it seems a little off color.

We also recently had a Ku Klux Klan demonstration. It was really funny to see. The klan didn’t even wear their masks and costumes and most were just fat ass trailer park trash surviving on social security checks while bitching about minorities doing the same.

The logic just escapes me.

Sheffield is an idiot. Always has been. I’m friends with the agent for one of the best players in baseball. Had dinner with him over the weekend and talked about this Torre thing. My friend told me that Torre is probably the most respected manager in MLB within the game.

Said that the reason that NY won 4 series and dominated the last decade is that Torre is a players manager and everyone in the leauge wants to play for him. It was not like this when, say, Buck Showalter was running things there. Free agents were not as willing to put with NY press and pressure to play for Showalter. They will for Torre.

Also, he told me that Sheffield is - hands down - MLB’s biggest jerk. One story that hit close to home for him (as he is an agent) is that Sheffield fired his agent right when he hit the free-agent market.

The agent had worked for cheap (Sheff doesn’t get many endorsement’s and other income outsided baseball) and this was what he was doing it all for. He’d essentially sacrificed short-term for this long-term payday. But as soon as negotiations started Sheffield fired him. Wouldn’t return his calls. Would speak to him. Started telling people this agent was using him.

My friend said that everyone knows that Sheffield BELIEVES everything he says. Most think he’s crazy. Or an attention whore.

SFA?

This is hilarious Lol I love when a white person says he doesn’t see racism.

Why? Perhaps he does not run across it, is that a problem? Or are you contending he is not being honest and hence is a liar?

I think the issue is that many of the things white people see as “normal” are actually racist. But to that white person, they dont see it as being racist, because to them its just “how things are”.

Hmmm, that wouldn’t be Scott Boras would it?
Your statement “I’m friends with the agent for one of the best players in baseball.” made me think of him because he is the agent for most of the top players.

Either way I am glad Sheff’s out of Atlanta, we sure as hell don’t want him back. I don’t care if he hit .600, get 250 RBI’s and 100 HR’s. I’d have a hard time cheering for him.

Kinda like the Falcons this year, I have been one of Vick’s biggest apologists, but I find dog fighting appauling and he is going to have to do some good will maneuvering for me to like hime again.

I believe capped hit the nail on the head. I have no problem if you don’t come across it, don’t even have a problem if you are racist. What gets me is when someone tries to say that another person doesn’t have the right to feel disrespected, when you haven’t gone throught the same treatment.

Although my comment was my directed to texasguys first post it goes to yours also. If I remember the article I read correctly, he clearly stated He did not think torre was a racist, but that black and white players are treated differently, and that he didn’t like that treatment.

When it comes to differnces in people there will be times when different races, heights, sexes and so on should be treated differently. There are also times when they should not be treated differently. Sheffield just felt Torre should not call out the black players in the locker room, while pulling the white players aside and saying “hey you can do better”.

This is all of course assuming we know everything he said which so far has only been a synopsises of a show coming on tomorrow.

He still may be a dick head because of the fact that if your a star player who felt disrespected you could have said something then. Which may have been better then someobdy with alot less clout.

Public school and financial aid for furthering education are available to everyone, more so to minorities with their exclusive grants and scholarships really.

Not one credible place of employment cares about race. Maybe mom and pop retail stores in bo fuck missouri, but who really aspires to work there?

If you really think a handful of back woods rednecks holds down an entire race you are kidding yourself.

It’s not the twenties where 70 % of a towns police department, mayor, judge and state senators are white supremacists.

Schools are not close to particular races, we can all drink from the same water fountains, sit in the same bus seats…

Show me where people are not equal and give me real examples. Not obscure, impossible to prove “institutionalized” bullshit.

I’m still in school but don’t disclose much personal information online. It is in far west texas though.

When did you graduate?

For those who think racism doesn’t exist, try reading the comments on 10 random youtube videos where people are arguing.

So in just 50 years since the Civil Rights Movement everything is all better? After centuries of slavery and inequalities, all it took was a few years and a few apologies to put everyone on equal footing? If you truly believe that then I don’t know what world you live in.

One generation’s time doesn’t wipe out the lasting effects of racism and discrimination that were once legal and smiled upon. Yes, race relations has improved, but we’re a long way away from everyone being truly equal.

First off, putting race aside, no one is equal. We’re all different. Different shapes and sizes. Different strengths and weaknesses. But since I know you were referring specifically to race, this is beside the point.

The problem with racism and equality is that people like you refuse to believe it exists. You think that a little financial aid and a little affirmative action solve everything. Putting institutionalized in quotes was a dead give-away to your line of thinking.

We are not equal. The racial imbalances of 300 years of slavery still exist today.

Wow do I need to throw some corrections your way. First off it may be Political cowardice or your own personal experience but lets fix some things. First off the FAIR media is JUST now getting to listing black on white hate crime which it was afraid to do. People are not fooled but sure were cowed into never saying that blacks are just as raciest as whites. With exception to the ones who do not practice hate on both sides.

2nd off you have red necks living off goverment hand outs just like you have gang banger gehtto scum living off goverment hand outs. You have whites using meth, drinking, pot and you have blacks using crack, drinking and pot.

You have the malcom X symbol of hate ( to whites ) and the rebel flag symbol of hate to blacks…

Or is that so? Most left leaning whites will talk smack about the old stars and bars while not mentioning the malcome X symbol and vice versa with the rebel flag and conservative.

Look, in all fairness the confederate flag means a whole lot of things. Historicaly it stood for states rights to govern themselves. Many whites and blacks fought willingly and died on both sides. I have that tattoo on my arm in remembrance of my dad. I’m also getting married to a Japanese girl and will be the first to talk shit to any KKK or nazi about waving that flag arround.

I’ll also be the first to openly address black on white hate crime and the under reporting of it… Its time to address BOTH sides of the issue, not just blame whitey and make excuses for blacky.
