The fact that you decline into this childish crap clearly indicates you realize you are on your heels. Get out from in front of your computer more often.

Out.

Right. Good job at ignoring the entire post aside from the first and last sentence. Childish crap? I take great pride in avoiding the embrace of full blown adulthood. That still doesn’t change you being a stand in for a 50’s sitcom.

“People like me?” What the hell does that mean?

People who want to pretend as if a lesser number of white comedians on BET or any other media using black jokes in their routine meant there was some kind of double standard where whites can’t tell jokes about black people. If this doesn’t describe you, then why are you acting as if what was stated was untrue or invalid?

You cite one example and that disproves all? Sorry to question your omnipotence. I forgot that only your experiences and perceptions are valid.

We were talking about the material the comedians used, not the host. What the hell does that matter?

Gee, the HOST on most comedy shows is also a comedian who tells jokes during the show. The fact that he was doing this for YEARS on that show and his material very often made fun of the very audience he was speaking to disproves that white comedians can’t tell jokes about black people.

If a bunch of white comedians were saying hateful things about blacks would you care if the host was black?

Hateful? Since when did this discussion become about saying HATEFUL things in comedy? Something truly hateful shouldn’t be getting a laugh out of anyone.

BTW- The stuff on BET is funny, and I have never had a problem with it.

I watch a little BET, but most of it doesn’t appeal to me. The comedy is about all I do watch. Never really noticed the host was white… guess I must be slipping. “People like me” should be more aware of that kind of thing. Thanks for the label. Try not to bitch too much when someone puts one on you.

You didn’t put one on me. You tried and failed.
1. I never stated anything negative about BET or made any reference to it until you used it as an example of “comedic equality”. I could care less how many people of what color are on it. If you recall, you noted the color of the host. I had never noticed. You are a master of the “spin”, but you failed with this weak attempt.

 2. The discussion started regarding disparity in the use of racial epitaphs. I consider racial epitaphs hateful; perhaps you do not.

 3. You think I tried to label you? Where did I do that? Was it because I pointed out that your example sucked?

I do believe that you are the “Don Quixote” of racism. You see offenses and slights everywhere when, usually, there are none. You come galloping into every discussion wielding the race card like a sword.

Tell you what, DQ, go attack another windmill. You asked for a label, so enjoy.

BTW- Funny that “DQ” is the same initials as “drama queen”, huh?

How ironic…

I do believe so. The old American word for blacks was “negro”. Which also happens to be the Spanish word for black.

I wonder when was the last time a Mexican was called a “slave owner” due to his Spanish ancestry?
Hey, I resemble that comment!

You and BIGRAGOO need to stop thinking for yourself and step in line with the rest of the PC crowd.

Repeat after me and empty your mind of all rational thought; “ALL WHITES ARE RACISTS” “RACISM ONLY COMES FROM WHITES”, “KILL WHITEY” OUMMMM!

Exactly, Big, Prof., Dirty Tiger, you guys are right on. When black folks use the word “nigger,” it’s usually shortened to “nigga,” and is a term of brotherhood and affection(but not always).

I see white dudes and Mexicans say it all the time. Throw in the “R” and it usually takes on a different connotation, as well as whatever is said along with it. That is the one caveat many people tned to ignore when addressing the double-standard. Nobody with any sense gets angry when being referred to as “Black.” That makes as much sense as me getting mad over being referred to as “bald.” White boy is not always a derogatory term. I jokingly use it all the time. But, me and my circle aren’t all high-strung over that stuff.
Come on dude, I can’t tell you why Blacks use the “N” word for each other, but I do know that it was used as a negative label related to slavery for many years.

So I think Blacks have earned the right to determine if that word is offensive or not. And I would imagine that the older Blacks who have seen a lot of racism would think that young Blacks calling each other that was idiotic. But then that’s just a guess.

No, you’re right. The black guys that I know who are over 40 despise the fact that the younger gens use the word as a friendly term. They hate the word and all it’s connotations. Honestly, I can’t blame them. It was used to be derogatory, biggoted, and elitist, so why the hell would you want to perpetuate it’s use?

it’s the “boy” part i object to. extremely disrespectful.

One of my (white) work buddies and I always used to greet each other by saying “kill whitey” everytime we saw each other or called each other.

I called him on the speaker
phone with the CEO and other bigwigs in the room.

Me: “Hey Craig, do you…”
Craig (interrupting): “Kill Whitey”.

Awesome!

I once had a project manager tell me I couldn’t introduce our group on a call because I was too young (years ago) and might do something unprofessional. The “Senior Engineer” was assigned that duty. He showed up late for the meeting and screamed “WAAAZZZZZZZUUUUUUPPPPP!” into the phone for about 1 full minute.

Sorry for the hijack…

On a related note, though, I now work with a group of engineers (9 total) and only three are Caucasian. I get called “The Man”, “Y-T”, “O-fey” (spelling?), “pink-toed huckle-puff” and all kinds of other crap every day. I also make my share of jokes at their expense. But, it is among friends, and we respect each other; no one crosses the line.

One day, I drove three of us to the grocery store and the bagger put all of our purchases into one bag. We all looked at the bag and one guy finally said “Well, the bag ain’t gonna get itself, Boy!” (speaking to me). We all laughed, but some “wannabe thug” (fake chains and stocking cap) behind us said “Yeah, grab the bag and get the F out, Cracker.” I’ll spare you the details, but when a combined 12’8" and 545lbs of angry black men grab your ass, you have a bad day (they just shook him and yelled at him). I think the poor kid pissed his pants.

Now, at least one night every week when we all leave together, one of them yells right when I grab for my briefcase “Grab the bag and get the F out, Cracker!”

Those same two bastards insisted on driving me to the airport (it is on their way home) and made me sit in the back of the car (to make them look like chauffeurs). When we got there, they opened my door and then grabbed my bags and ran them to the curbside check-in. They took photos on their camera phones and still show them to new employees as proof of how I treat black employees…

I think it is ignorant as well, and I don’t throw the word atound like that. I also don’t refer to women as bitches, hos, etc. “Boy” especially pisses me off. I haven’t really heard it much, though.
OK, why does eveyone act like slavery had the only impact on racism today? Have all of you “That was Then This is Now”, guys forgotten about all the beatings, lynchings, and segregation in fairly recent years? Shit, there was a man lynched around these parts as recent as the 70’s, and let’s not forget that little dragging incident down in Jasper that happened a few years ago. That shit isn’t easily forgotten, and there are still plenty of towns around here with little to no Black people living in them, or they pretty much all live in the shitty part of town. Racism, dead, has no effect? Whatever. Some people DO wave the race card, but nobody is doing that here.
As for being called a white boy, show me all the whites who got lynched, denied service, jobs, housing, got beaten, shot with firehoses, whatever, because they wewre white. Calling someone a “white boy” isn’t right, but it just doesn’t carry the same weight as calling someone a “nigger.”

Good post Bro, but I would ask a question, does that recent racially motivated violence reflect the values of society or the values of a few social deviants? The point is that we are always going to have people in society with strange views and racists views but if that does not reflect the views of 99.9% of society is it accurate to continue to say racism is not dead? If we gage racism by a few fringe freaks and what they do or believe will racism every be dead?

The problem is that, the 0.1% are the ones who get all the attention and their acts are splashed everywhere to see. And it’s never going to die because of these type of people.

I totally agree. And it is a shame that the media gives these losers so much power to try and shape how people think or at least keep the hatred going. When people buy into the idea that these wackos represent the majority then they have succeeded in furthering their cause of hatred.

Nail on the head, man. But it sells air time and makes for juicy journalism, which makes money. So there ya go.
