It’s not too late to change it…

And what do you guys think of blends? I was at a bar a week ago and they had their own specialty blend of Blanton’s. They get samples of Blanton’s direct and have it mixed to their liking and the recipe is then saved and made just for them. They had it done with Angel’s Envy too.
Philosophically, I really like the idea of “single barrel” stuff as opposed to things that are batched together and blended/diluted, but I think that might be just a personal preference of mine rooted more in what I want to believe than what actually tastes good.

I tried this for the first time today. It was always on my list. Strange drinking scotch without peat but it was really good with a finish that lasted forever. I really like the bottle it looks round but it’s actually an oval shape. Would buy again.
The 15 year is the best IMO

That’s pretty much how I feel too, with blends of anything (not just whiskey, but wine also). I like the idea of a “pure” product that requires no modification and is excellent, but I recognize that blending things can often produce things that taste as good or better than their constituents. It’s just a little less pure.

Question for the group that I’ve been wondering, not sure if it came up last thread. How often do y’all drink? Seems like this could be a habit/hobby that might not necessarily jive with hard training and good eating. Do you approach it in an “IIFYM” kind of way, or just not stress over it because it’s just a glass at a time, or what?
I made a semi-arbitrary deal with myself that I don’t drink on days I lift, so that shortens my sipping to 3 or 4 days a week at most right there. When I do, it’s usually a double while cooking dinner or after dinner, or when lounging around on a weekend afternoon.
Friday’s and Saturday’s only for me. I have to wake up too early and get done with the day too late during the week.
Because of that I have four new bottles to try this weekend that I purchased last Sunday.
Ardbeg Corryvreckan
Ardbeg Uigeadail
BeamSuntory ri
Lagavulin Distillers Edition
I’ve had other Ardbeg’s and Lagavulin’s before and like them so I am really looking forward to them. The ri was a random “this bottle looks different” kind of buy.
3 hours left until work is over. Let the countdown begin.

Just bought a bottle of Willett Bourbon out of Kentucky. Sampling my first pour of it as we speak. Absolutely nothing wrong with it at all.
Mid level pricing.
94 proof.
Really kewl bottle (think "I Dream of Jeannie).
I’ve seen this a million times and always thought the bottle looked intriguing.
That being said, if the best you can muster is “nothing wrong with it” it seems like my money is better spent elsewhere?
Not whiskey, but still fine sippin’ spirits.
El Dorado 12 year Rum is worth a try if you ever come across it. It’s a cask-aged Guyana rum, made from demerrara sugar instead of molasses in a wooden pot still.
The 5 year El Dorado doesn’t have as much character for sipping, but makes for great cocktails.
It turns out this was actually the distillery that had the British navy contract, and it goes back something like 450 years.
… back to the Whiskeys

Good point with bringing up wine blends, never been a fan of them. The Blanton’s was pretty good, but being a blend, I’m not sure what batch of sample in it the flavor I like comes from.
And Push, would you buy the Willet again? I could drink anything twice (ad infinitum really) but buying a second time is my measure of how good I like something. I saw it a few times at the store but I wasn’t sure if I just wanted to get it because of the bottle LOL.

My local shop was recently offering tastings from the whole Bulleit brand, including the new Bulleit 10 Year. I was in the middle of running errands and driving around town so I didn’t try it, but the girl said the Bulleit 10 is aged a few years longer and should be smoother up front with a little more bite afterwards compared to the original Bulleit. I definitely liked the original (didn’t care for Bulleit Rye), so I’ll put this on the list to try down the line.

I asked this same question when I began contributing to the whiskey thread. You answered me back that you only drink around dinner and not on lifting days.
Ha, crap, sorry man. I totally blanked on that.
Just had my first whiskey in 25 years. My neighbor and I had some Laphroaig 10 when watching the Walking Dead season premiere. I very much enjoyed the smoky flavor and the smooth way it went down. We added ice to the second round and I must say that made it even better for me.

You weren’t sober for 25 years, right? That doesn’t sound like the sort of thing to celebrate about!
Blanton’s for me tonight. It’s still good!
I’m a little over halfway through my first bottle of Angels Envy and I’m enjoying it, but I think I’m gonna branch out with some others before I buy a second bottle of this.
Angels Envy wasn’t as good as Bulleit for old fashioned’s, but tastes much better on the rocks.

haha, no bud, I wasn’t. 25 years ago I got disgustingly drunk on whiskey and have not been able to even smell it since. However, Laphroaig has a great smell to it and after one sip I was hooked. Next up is the 18.
