Whiplash : Getting Jacked to be the Scary Dad

Had a few rough days of work. Today and tomorrow will be better. Planning to get back work in tonight and delts tomorrow. Date planned with the wife for Saturday.

Sunday night
10x10 hammer curls
10x10 tricep push down
Not much else…very busy day and shortly after, my dog had an accident in the house that I had to deal with. He is starting to show his age…many times he doesn’t want to go out side, he’s not eating as much, moving slower, slipping more and sleeping lots. We will see how things go I guess.

@T3hPwnisher hey just a quick question for you (hopefully). So I have been thinking off and on for quite some time about looking at my training in a 10 day cycle rather than 7. I have heard of others setting up training like that, and I don’t doubt it works…just wondering if you ever had any experience with that or know of anything you tell me in that regard?

Hey dude,

I’ve been working odd shifts since 2007, so I haven’t had a real day 7 day training week in quite a while. The 7 day week is ultimately an artificial construct. Your body will respond to being pushed to perform irrespective of where it falls in a month.

Some months, I have LOTS of time off and will train every single day in a row to take advantage of it, knowing that some months I’m going to be compromised and take more days off than I want. It all evens out on a long enough timeline.

That makes sense. Thanks for the response.

Tuesday
10x10 band resisted rows
During first five sets i supersetted heavy side bends and during last 5 I did core twists with a med ball
Finished with 4x10 rdl.

The stripped down gvt is feeling good, and I’m wanting to add more to my sessions…hence having two core movements and rdls along with my rows. My hunger is starting to go up too, which is also good. Trying to add in some sneaky calories and what not. Things are moving forward again!

Was planning on doing delts tonight, but texturing a house this morning made me think otherwise. Texture always kills my shoulders…maybe I will do my 10x10 dips tonight plus a couple other goodies instead. If I’m done work early enough, I’m gonna do some sled drags and/or tire flips before I come in the house. Also…I reintroduced almonds to my work lunches to help with the blood sugar and to bump up the calories a bit.

Sunday morning

10x10 ohp (supersetted lite curls)
3 sets rear delt raise (last set was a double drop)
1x30 side raise

100 med ball core twists

50 reps rb chest press

So here was delts. I supersetted curls cause I wanted to make sure I was getting in a proper rest time between sets. It still wasn’t long, but it was better. Plus, who doesn’t want bigger biceps? Double drop on rear delts felt good too. And instead of 3x10 on side raises…how about 1x30…it hurts more.

Added in the twists cause I want more core work regularly and some extra reps on chest just to finish things off.

Yesterday I did some sledgehammer conditioning and played with my son at the park, and a little bit of long boarding. We will see what the rest of the day brings

Ok…what else today brings, at least for this morning, is swimming

I guess the pool is closed….they could have updated the website…:face_with_steam_from_nose:

Going to a breakfast joint instead now. And reworking the days plan

Chest dips 10x10
Push-ups 1xfail (elbow was not happy with this, was gonna do more but decided not to)
Band resisted chest press x 50 reps
Flys 3x20
Tricep push down x 100

Got in 10x10 rows last night, but that was all i did. Had worked late and was tired af, and my son was very cranky.

On a side note, I’m getting my first tattoo in may or June. On another side note, I have my next amp picked out…not sure when I will get it but I’m looking forward to getting it.

10x10 db split squats
100 banded good mornings unbroken

Then, set up the gym upstairs from the basement, did a few strict curls(back against wall) and some power cleans.

I had to stop working for a few min so I could write this while it was in my mind.

So I have been listening to an elitefts podcast with Jim Wendler, and he is talking about his training and mindset. He said more or less that he was at a very low point, sick of what he was becoming and got started with this walrus training. He needed something hard, something difficult, and he specifically said he needed to rebuild the discipline of doing something miserable.

This is exactly what I have felt and why I started my rebuild thing. I just couldn’t quite put it in to words. After all the stuff my wife and I went through in January, I felt sick of myself I’m so many ways. I needed to relearn discipline in life and lifting. I started lifting when I was 12 and it has done so much for me…far more than just physical benefits. I was always a disciplined and regimented kid largely because of lifting and work. My parents didn’t do fuck all to help me, so I had to learn on my own. But in the past while, I got away from my ways. Sure I kinda lifted, but it wasn’t like before, and many things in my life were suffering too. Those things ultimately far more important than training in the long run. I was losing myself and could have lost my wife as a result. So I have been working hard on myself…reframing my mind and trying to fix myself. Part of it was getting back to regular training that was hard in some way, and part of it was life stuff.

I wanted to start each day with a win, even something very small. So I made sure to make the bed and do a few chores before anything else. Those small wins set the tone for the day…or at least that’s the idea. Small habits and small wins work out to victory over time. Now, training is getting way better, but far more important, my life is getting better. My wife and I’s relationship is way better and so on. The rebuild thing was far more big picture than just training…even tho training is part of it and it is important to me.

Training update
The last couple days, all I could get in was sled drags. Sunday was mostly arm over arm pulls with some backwards drags, and yesterday was a lot of forward pulling and some backwards pulls.

Wife has appointment today so I’ll be home earlier than normal…planning to do some damage.

There are definitely worse exercises to only have time for. In addition to sleds, carries are probably the next best “bang for buck” exercise.

Carries and sled work, baby. What a combo.

And, of course

Yeah carries are great! And they are good practice for costco lol

So from yesterday

4 sets of Chins and overhead press superset

Attempted 10x10 dips superset with banded rows
Made it to set 7

Can’t remember what else I did lol

I’m gonna have to do something different on my chest day…2 or 3 times now my tendinitis is flared up from dips, and I do try to push through it but…yeah…thinking I will lower the volume on dips in general and add some weight, and save the 10x10 for flys and tricep push down or something like that.
