Since many people on these forums have proposed what amounts to whining about specific users when it comes to anything contrary to their beliefs, I thought that we should talk about the topic of whining in general.
Is there any room for whining in a manly environment? I mean, taking aside legitimate complains – the question is:
Should speech that is disliked by some (or even the majority) resort to whining?
I am not talking about rainjack, necessarily, but the concept in general. I would like to hear your ideas on these subpoints:
(1) When is it OK to whine about disliked speech?
(2) Do the topics matter – should we whine about only religious topics?
(3) Who gets to decide who can whine?
(4) Who gets to decide what is acceptable or unacceptable whining?
(5) How does the Bill of Rights figure into all of this?
In my view, as long as someone is not promoting anything illegal or obscene, there is no room for whining of any kind in the public marketplace of ideas (period).
I don’t know how I got singled out for whining. I am more of a bitcher then a whiner.
But - whining is just part of the game down here. I don’t have a problem with the occasional whining, but when it is incessant, and always about the same topic it does get old.
What do you do about it?
What the hell do you do about it when it is your wife? You put up with it. Maybe turn up the TV. Maybe just nod your head, and throw out a “yes dear” every now and again.
In this forum, I think ignoring it is the best way to deal with it. Yes - I am being hypocritical here, so sue me.

Damn. That sucks.
Do you consider trolling as being the Devil?s advocate ?

Playing Devil’s advocate is taking a stance different from the groups and engaging in intellectually honest discussion. That is not what the trolls here do.

Good point.
Here is what Wikipedia has to say on the topic of trolls:
