I would have to travel the world a bit in order to pick a foreign country. I did like Scotland when I visited there.

Up until I retire it does’nt really matter. But I am looking into retirement property in the Philippines.
Ditto. At this point I would go anywhere. I plan to retire in Fiji though before age 50.
Does anyone know if I leave the country can I still draw Social Security? Not that it will amount to jack shit but just curious. [/quote]
Yes you can as long as you retain your US citizenship.
I would consider Italy again, the food, wine, culture, people, and lifestyle suits me. I have yet to meet someone who had a bad visit or vacation there.

If you live somewhere cold now I could ‘life swap’ - I live in Dubai which is white sands and blue, green sea (with a water temp of 32 C in summer - almost as hot as bath water)
However… if you go outside between June and September for more than an hour or so your blood will boil your brain - I’m not joking - it gets up to 54 C here (after about 47 C your blood begins to cook you from the inside).
Happy to swap lives any time - drop me a line.
Anyway - I’d move to America (I’m a UK expat so I can’t really get a visa). Anywhere in the US but I’d probably prefer the East coast or somewhere northern-ish. Because I’m not actually a lizard I’d like to live somewhere with more than 1 and a half seasons (hot season and slightly less hot season), oh and somewhere with rain - I haven’t seen rain for 8 and a half months.

I loled, but let’s be honest here, British girls don’t need help looking ugly.
Sadly, this is true.
I would like to move to spain (cheap, warm, not too far from friends in UK) or the Cayman islands (UK territory, warm, beautiful) or possibly NZ (great lifestyle + place to bring up kids).

Umm, way to be popular with the ladies.
Thanks
Colorado, nestled comfortably in a mountainside.
I want to move to the USA, but I don’t know where…
It’s such a huge country and I wouldn’t know where to start.
Anyone got a clue of a good place in the US to relocate to?

That depends on what you want in a location and how much you’re willing to spend every year to get it.
Probably Cali, Hawaii, or canada…it would be nice if people could post some info on their own home countries so that people might be a little informed(and to liven this thread up a bit.)
If I had to move, Pacific Northwest or Colorado.
I would really miss the lakes of Michigan though. Hard to find this much water, except Minnesota where it gets really fricken cold.
I’ve been to NZ, it’s a beautiful place and the people are laid back, genuinely friendly (not fake friendly) and easy going. I would also live there if I wanted to relocate, except that I’ve had enough of the southern hemisphere and want to check out a different side of the world.

Hmmm that would take a lot of thought. I would probably have to tour around for a while and see where would be a good place to settle down, if money were no object. Not something flashy like Beverly Hills, my dream house would be in just a good wide open place with plenty of beautiful scenery, green fields, and not too far from a major urban centre either.

As noted above, it really depends on what you want. What do you enjoy doing? You also need to be able to earn a living.
My passion is training bird dogs and hunting. As such, I would love to live in Wyoming, Montana or Western North Dakota. However, unless you are a teacher, cop, nurse or work for a utility, you are going to be hard pressed to make a living. I could work for a utility, but it would be at a significant cut in pay. Will have to wait until I retire.
New Zealand: I’ve traveled the world and met a lot of tourists/expats, and I have to say the Kiwis are to be among the coolest and friendliest.
Beautiful country that looks like its been designed in CGI by some team at Lucasarts.
New Caledonia: All the good points of France, none of the negatives, located on some of the most idyllic beaches in the world.
Vanuatu: In all the countries I’ve been, EASILY the friendliest people anywhere. Rugged beauty and a prevailing sense of “life” wherever you go. I know it sounds hokey.
Vancouver Island, Canada: My home. Great biking. Good skiing. Surfing in Tofino and Jordan River. AMAZING weed…better than mainland in my biased opinion. Awesome, down to earth people
