Where to Put Deadlifts in this Split

I’m currently designing a new split, but am unsure of where to put deadlifts. I currently have it set up as follows

Monday: Chest / Back
Tuesday: Legs
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Arms and Shoulders
Friday: Off
Saturday: Repeat

I’ve considered putting them in on Mondays, but I’m afraid it may affect my Leg workout the following day.

Tuesday is out because I plan on Squatting every Leg workout and I know doing both on the same day would limit whichever one I performed last

I’m leaning towards putting them in on Thursday, but I don’t do any other back or leg work that day, so I’m not sure that’s ideal either.

Any suggestions, including moving days around, would be greatly appreciated

I do dead lifts with squats. If you ever plan on competing you will need to do them both on the same day. They are quite different lifts and one should not hamper the other.

I would think that doing them on Monday would have a greater negative for legs on Tuesday. Well that’s how my body reacts anyway. Best of luck.

If you’re not using your lower back, glutes, hamstrings and quads on both DL and squat, you’re doing one/both of them wrong. They’re also both major lifts. I always keep at least 48 hours between them, and do my DL with my back workout.

If you’re gonna do a three day split, I’d try Mon, Wed, and Fri. Don’t do a full session of just arms and shoulders,do chest with them and cut back on arm and shoulder sets. A couple exercises each for arms and shoulders should be fine. Do deads with your back work. I wouldn’t usually try to do legs the day after deads and back work, I’d try to get at least one day rest between them. That’s what I would try to do as a power lifter. We don’t really know what your goals are, what your experience level is. These suggestions might change a bit if we knew more about what you’re trying to accomplish.

I appreciate all of the input.

Now, a little background. I’ve been lifting weights for over 10 years and I’ve tried all types of routines from 3 day a week full body to a 5 day body part split. My best workouts always seemed to result from working antagonistic pairs, which Is why I’m choosing the split that I’ve listed.

I’m always pressed for time, so by alternating chest and back exercises, for example, I can increase my rest between sets without adding time to my workouts. At age 37 I’m not looking to compete in any strongman competitions or do any body building shows. I’m just looking to get my body fat levels down to around 10%.

What would be your thoughts if I just switched the rest days up as follows

Monday: Chest & Back
Tuesday: OFF
Wednesday: Legs
Thursday: Shoulders and Arms
Friday : OFF
Saturday repeat

This way I could do my deadlifts on Monday with Chest and Back and also still have a day of recovery before hitting my legs with squats on Wednesday

I really prefer not to do a M-W-F split as I feel I progress better when my frequency is more than once a week

I agree with the recommendation daddyz gave to you. And for you to try to work your chest, back, and DL on the same day is insane. You came here for advice, but are now ignoring the feedback given. Scrap the arms/shoulder day. You will be working your shoulders and arms during various compound chest and back exercises.

One other option…
On your “Leg day” throw in the deadlifts… but alternate the primary movements each workout session…

One week, do heavy squats (3-5 reps etc.) and light deadlifts (8-12 rep range etc.), the following week, do heavy deadlifts and light squats.

Bunny

That’s actually an option that I’ve considered. Thanks for confirming my beliefs.

I appreciate all of the input

Bobby Vinton made Polka albums?

The frilly undergarments part is old news and your needlepoint needs work…
