I’ve spend a fair amount of time around him as well and I tend to agree with this.
I think people get freaked out over some of his comments because his tongue-in-cheek humor goes over their heads.
It may be a combination of English not being his first language and that he’s a soft-spoken guy in person.[/quote]
Keep telling yourself that.
Most newbs today get ALL of their information over the internet. That means most of them have no clue what a hardcore gym atmosphere is even like because they’ve never experienced it. That means if you tell them guys with arms over 21" can’t curl 35lbs dumbbells (like he has written), they are clueless enough to fucking believe it. You can call that “tongue in cheek humor” all you want to, but the effect of it isn’t simply a bunch of people laughing it off. They actually BELIEVE IT.
This leads to sites like this getting hit by hundreds of 17 year olds who think big muscles equal weak muscles.

True, Poliquin has a very bad reputation in the strength training field in his business dealings with certain people. And some of these people are names many would know here.
X, for the record I’ve done many seminars with him, and organized my own which featered him and many other strength coaches (CT, EC, MR, DeFranco, etc), plus I’ve gone through his PICP 1-3 levels and went to his RI facility. So that’s no internet hearsay on my part. Plus, both good and bad things said about anyone, not just Charles, that comes from the net is unrealiable, so unless you have firsthand experience, that too just hearsay and secondhand opinion
From experience, a lot of the drama stems from internet experts having their panties up in a bunch over something he said. Nothing new here

I’d interject that his reputation is quite solid and good with other people. Depends who you ask.
Knowing, I find that is reputation isn’t either good or bad per se, but it’s polarized: you either hate him or you love him. Very little in-between
Regarding that last statement, a little-known and little publicized fact is that many top coaches, many among those of this here website, took seminars and courses with him at one time or another. Which is not to say they should pay tribute to him for the rest of their lives or turn into Poliquin-clones, but he’s largely responsible for a whole new crop of coaches learning the brass-tacks and starting out in the bizz.
I doubt Poliquin is that bad of a guy. Afterall, he offers training advice to people for free. I gotta stick with him as a fellow French-Canadian. What’s worse though, getting your training advice via the internet or getting your training advice from some NASM certified personal trainer that has you doing arms curls while standing on a balance ball?
Bah, you’re just jealous that people endowed with his vast knowledge of anabolic dominican fruit no longer suffer from tooth decay. You, sir, represent all thats crooked about the medical establishment.

Come on Tom, everyone knows that world record-holding benchers warm up with bent over rows in the warm up rooms…
Not really defending Poliquin here because i don’t really give a fuck but from what I can tell more or less every internet coach has said some crazy stuff.
Each site you go to has its different “cool untouchable writers” and “evil full of shit writers”
Does anyone here seriously think Poliquin gives a fuck what people think of him? I’ve been training hard for the last 11 years and read about different training techniques for the same amount of time. I’d always lean towards Poliquin for advice rather than the bullshit which is spoken on these forums. Before I read this thread I knew there would be a group of pin dicks saying how shit he is. It would be good to see if these same people could throw out some names of who they are currently training!!!
