Try putting your sweat towel (rather than a pad) over your shoulders if you find it really painful.
As said already, you genuinely will get used to it even if it doesn’t feel like it now.
When I started, I remember it was quite sore but once your traps and upper back get up to speed, it won’t even be a consideration.
The knee issue is more of a concern and you’ll need to have someone look at your form or post a video here if possible.
I echo Vermillion’s comments about too much cock-swinging on this site. Either answer the man’s questions or say nothing at all.
i find if your squeeze your trap hard once you have it in place, it just sits right on top of them and deosnt cause any pain, a little discomfort, but no pain

Why do you care if these guys pad the bar or not? They take the weight down and lift it back up, same as everyone else, and padding the bar doesn’t keep them from getting stronger. And even if it DID limit their gain rate, so fucking what? It has absolutely nothing to do with you and your workout.
Two or so years ago, T-Nation was an amazing place - people really gave a damn about helping each other, and different points of view were totally fine. These days, it’s more about cock-swinging and name calling, mocking others for being different. Fucking high school.

you’re right…several years ago this site was filled with people that would never have started crying because the big bad squat bar hurt there tiny weeny backs…those people have now moved on and I now realize it’s time for me to move on also…
it used to be kind of a cool place…
my ourburst is just a bitter reflection of that…
so have fun doing your ‘functional’ strength workouts and dieting down to stick like proportions so you can get the babes…
testosterone is dead…

Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way.
