It gets better though, no really, it does. Now, Fauci is actually recommending goggles or face shields for protection against the virus. As of right now, it’s simply a suggestion, but he did add it could become a mandate. LOL, this is pure, hysterical madness.
Texas? I guess that’s better than Alabama or Sudan.
Get your goggles ready, kiddies! StOp ThE sPrEaD!!!
Trained dogs sniff out COVID infections - 94% accurate vs. current test with 30% false negative rate
This is bad why? What’s next? Now they are saying this shot might keep it from happening or this pill may keep it from happening. Pure lunacy! I’ll use roids but won’t use medicine. Unless it’s been approved by a doctor who believes in demon fucking related illness!
If my company wants me to wear eye protection I’ll do it no question asked. And my team won’t have any problem with it just like when I told them we are now wearing masks. But they are adults.
Your reactions and the reactions of the fringe “reject” Covid people is hysterical madness. It’s not mad to listen to experts during a pandemic. It’s the opposite of madness.
But why do you even care you won’t wear a mask so not sure why you care.
You too man. Try to take care of yourself as well as possible.
Didn’t you used to do a lot of dunking/jumping and stuff?
The issue with the universities have been a long slow rolling storm. The invasion of PC culture, which gave rise to woke-identitarianism started basically in the '70’s as college age hippies graduated and became professors.
This gave rise to the population of the humanities which started producing nonsensical off-shoots of psychology and sociology studies, resulting in new schools with in the university, like LGBTQAI+, women’s studies, black studies, race studies, etc. Which are based on the principles of what we now call ‘critical race’ and ‘critical gender’ theories. Which in essence is loosely based on the philosophy that however a person ends up in their life, it had nothing to do with the individual, but the society and environment that person was subjected to through out his, hers, they, theirs, zims, zers, etc. life.
This actually affected the course of my life because it was the politics in the university that turned me off from perusing the necessary elevated degrees I would need to be successful in Psychology, my chosen field of study.
Keep in mind that it was no where near as bad as it is now, back in the '90’s, but the requirement ‘to play the game’ was mandatory. The last few classes of my B.S. where a horrific introduction to a world I wanted no part of. And it was comply or fail. After speaking to several post-grad students in the master’s and Phd programs, I was told I have not seen anything yet. They were forced to participate in studies and research that had barely any relation to the science, but adhered very closely far-left, well basically Marxism.
I remember the final class I had to take to get my degree. It was Sexual Psychology. Sounds like it would be fun and easy, huh? It was easy, we sat in a circle and talked about our ‘feelings’ a lot.
My premonition was that the class would have to do more with the psychology of arousal and pleasure and how different stimuli caused different sexual reactions and stuff like that… NOPE, it was a horror show. Every weird, bizarre sexual deviance on earth was ‘discussed’ and you couldn’t be down on anything no matter how fucking gross. So, what ever it’s called where one would masturbate with fecal matter or double-fisting, or whatever, could not generate a disgusted reaction or you’d be threatened with removal from the class. Now, if we were discussing the psychology of deviant behavior it wouldn’t have been so bad, but it wasn’t a study as much as a celebration of disgusting sexual acts. They should have called the class Disgusting Sexuality.
Anyway, I was too close to change majors, but I damn sure wasn’t coming back. Not for more of garbage like that.
So, that’s how universities got polluted. The Humanities grew exponentially and as professors gained tenure they gained power and here we are today… I encourage kids NOT to go to college, unless they are super passionate about a subject where college is the only path to achievement.
I didn’t need a day of college to do my job… But I got my degree!
In fairness, there’re no non-disgusting sexual acts when the other party looks like a progressive.
Yeah this is the part that kills me. The hypocrisy is mind-blowing.
I think you along with many are misunderstanding that. It is metaphorical, and pretty plain. In any case I take your point.
Accuracy and false negative rates are not the same thing.
Hilarious
I realize that, but based on this one experiment it appears that the dogs are more accurate than the test, no?
What I still can’t fathom is all the “how can we believe anything when some things are wrong” people. They start with the models and seem shocked that those were inaccurate. What a poorly understood new thing wasn’t modeled with 100% accuracy? Something that was going to be vastly different based on factors that were impossible to know like how humans would behave in a time frame?
Well they said surfaces or whatever and they said masks and now goggles. Science and knowledge change over time. We’re on a website where you can click on articles from when this site began and now science (and also practical application over time) may say the exact opposite things. Eggs were bad now they are great. You must eat throughout the day has been replaced with what are you eating and how much. Cardio was needed for weight loss and that’s been shifted. We now know that it’s probably not super important to wake up at 2 am and down a protein shake because you can’t have that catabolic fast!
Instead of realizing that knowledge changes over time these people are convinced that if you aren’t 100% sure of something it’s all bullshit. That if you ever change your opinion or recommendations based on new knowledge then what the fuck you must no absolutely nothing. Instead of improving our knowledge over time and realizing that we’re imperfect (and certainly something as difficult as this will have numerous changes as we learn more) it’s a demand that everything be known. It’s incredibly backwards thinking. It’s like finding out that something your 9th grade health teacher said was wrong and then saying well I reject and don’t believe anything a teacher has ever said then.
But the best has been we can’t trust and listen to doctors because…well they want us to do a few easy things and I don’t want to be inconvenienced. What’s that here’s 3 or 4 who aren’t saying what pretty much all the other doctors are saying? And I don’t know anything about them or their background but they are saying I don’t have to do those inconvenient things. Sweet they are correct knew it all along!
IMO, it’s debatable. Another example would be curing people by casting out demons like Jesus did. A medical professional should lose their license if they buy into and practice such methods. I think almost all reasonable religious doctors would agree.
So if they suggest we all live in a bubble next, will you comply?
Thanks bud. Yeah, once upon a time I could do some decent dunks. Feels like a long time ago now, haha.
If only we had some easy ways to help reduce the risk to everyone. Which would limit the amount of sick and dead. Allowing the economy to open up quicker and give people less fear so they would actually spend money and do the things they used to do. Perhaps we could look at and learn from countries that have done better than us in the area? I don’t know just a suggestion. Maybe the heat will help? Maybe it just vanishes one day.
It’s hard for us to look at some of those countries because the ones with the most success took it incredibly seriously. They understood the risk and did everything to keep it from getting it’s deep hooks in. We don’t have that luxury anymore. It’s here in every state. They didn’t poo poo the scientists and roll their eyes at it once the danger was understood. They actually let the smartest people lead the way, not question that everything was a billionaire trying to get rich off implanted microchips.
But I don’t know what those easy things would be. The things the vast majority of people in this thread find really easy some have a hard time doing. If only those people could reach down deep in their pocket and find a smidgen of toughness. I was with two eight year olds today for most of the day and they had that toughness. But not everyone has it. Some people just get really confused. Even adults. They don’t understand what the first amendment means and all sorts of stuff.
Maybe they acid tested to sort out the people who can’t hide their judgment and disgust for the people they may end up treating. Like, discussing that stuff rationally might be a necessary job skill.
Maybe. I dunno. I never made it too far in academia.
Yeah I’m sure they weren’t exactly looking for people who would see behaviors and think what the fuck fuck that sicko psychopath gross ass weirdo. They are fucking nuts idiots gross disgusting. You know exactly the thing everyone wants in a psychologist. All sexual acts are gross to except slow sex in the missionary position only to be done when trying to have a baby. That’s the way it was intended!
Not sure someone who argued that snipers should be placed on top of a wall and shoot anyone who comes near it would be what I’m looking for in that field so perhaps sexual psychology helped everyone out.
Here are the results:
“The dogs were able to discriminate between samples of infected (positive) and non-infected (negative) individuals with average diagnostic sensitivity of 82.63% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 82.02–83.24%) and specificity of 96.35% (95% CI: 96.31–96.39%)”
It’s possible. But I wouldn’t bet the house on it yet. It was really impressive and innovative though.
It was a pilot study as well–which is essentially a “proof of concept” study to justify grant money for further research. The researchers report a wide variation in sensitivity for the dogs. It is very possible that in wider testing they end up worse. Also remember that dog breeds are vastly different and their individual backgrounds are important in determining success (things the research team also mention).
I’m not trying to rain on the parade, but it’s not as much if a slam dunk as the newspaper would say. Journalists are not the best science reporters.
You and me both. I was thinking it was a train wreck waiting to happen at the time. ALL of the modeling studies mentioned the potential impact of unforeseen policy/behavior/reaction. But none of the reporting did.
If they ever fully realized how little they’re actually"100% sure of", they might spontaneously combust.
